On December 20, 2010, at approximately 11:07 a.m., Ocean City Police received a 911
call for a domestic dispute on 82nd Street. The caller stated to police dispatchers that
there was a protective order against the suspect, who was currently at the residence with
a knife.
Ocean City Police arrived on scene and witnessed the suspect assault the victim with a
knife. Ocean City Police gave verbal orders for the suspect to drop the knife. The suspect
refused to drop the weapon at which time he was shot by an Ocean City Police officer.
The suspect and the victim are currently being treated for their injuries, however their
condition is unknown. In addition, no Ocean City Police officers were injured during the
incident.
The names of the individuals involved, including the suspect, the victim and the Ocean City
Police officer, are not being released at this time. The remainder of the investigation will be
conducted by the Maryland State Police Homicide Unit and assisted by the Worcester County
Bureau of Investigation.

Both parties involved are still alive I do know that. So there has been no death yet on either side. I concur with this statement.
There has been a lot of talk recently about reducing the pay and benefits for not only the Police in Ocean City, but also for the whole Town. What people will eventually find out is the group of officers that responded to this did the right thing adn followed the rules to the letter. They cannot help that some moron out there had a deathwish and could have easily been killed. Everyone will eventually find out that the Police officers handled the situation perfectly and saved not onyl the victim's life, but the suspect's life also. This shows that if you provide a good salary adn benefits and make Ocean City look good to future potential Emergency Service providers, all of the training, dedication and professional knowledge will come back around and keep you safe and secure. This could have easiely been so much worse than it actually was. People could have been killed. Lawsuits could have been filed against Ocean City, etc., but the properly trained officers did what they were supposed to and everything worked out in the end.
This senerio can also be said about the rest of the Town employees. You are going to get what you pay for. For the past many years, Ocean CIty has worked very hard to hire the best eployees that they possibly could. They have been given the correct training adn are now providing the best service possible to it's residents. Now, a misguided Council is cutting back future and current employee benefits and pay. Do you think the dedicated employees that they have are going to hang around when all of their training, experience and dedication are wanted elsewhere? Everyone needs to really listen to the squeaky wheel on the Council. He has already run one business into the ground and is now working on running Ocean City into the ground. The employees are ready to revolt. Does Ocean City really need it's best assests to leave Town. I guess then the Council will get what it wants, a cheaper Ocean City, but then you do get what you pay for.
Thank you Ocean City employees for your hard work and dedication to our Town. Without you we would be just like any other town around here.

I hope this shows everyone that this area is not as safe as you think. OC is supposed to be considered a resort and they have now had two officer involved shootings in a decade.
The OCPD officer is a well trained officer and did what he had to do.
I hope this is another thing that shows we all need to work together in this area to make it better.
Hopefully Margaret Pillas, Joe Hall, Jim Hall, and Brent Ashley remember this incident as they continue to try and cut pay and benefits for the public safety employees....They are blind to the fact that 20 miles away is one of the most violent cities in the country per capita.. In the end you get what you pay for.
What I cant figure out is WHY are 2..that is right 2 detective divisions are being called in to do this investigation. WCBI is well capable in handling this case...Now you waste time and $$ in tying up 2 units..Total BS!!!! Send the MSP Homicide unit on their way to they can focus on bigger and better things..WCBI is less than a mile away from OC and they are welled trained in handling this case as they have with so many other crimes thru out the county. and may I add the highest case closure in Maryland.
Prayers with OCPD officers tonight. I look forward to hearing you being exonerated, and then commended for performance under extreme situations. Everyone lived (even the 'suspect' .. need to work on the cop's aim a bit...).

The officer shot the suspect in the lower abdomin to avoid hitting the woman that was being stabbed. How dare you call in to question his "aim". Maybe instead of faulting the officer for not killing the suspect, you congratulate the officers on scene and the paramedics that saved the suspects life. That is one on the most backhanded complements I've ever heard. Shame on you.
My thoughts and prayers go out to the OCPD Officer that was forced to use his weapon on another human being. Sounds like he did it by the book. As a past officer who was with the Department many years ago, I am so proud of the growth that has occured with the Agency.
