Breaking News

There are several emergency trucks at the Main Street waste water treatment plant along with Station 16 hazmat tractor trailer. We have heard it may be a chlorine leak.

More to Come....

Two people are having difficultly breathing and are being decontaminated at PRMC. Chlorine is a very toxic gas, the Fire Department is assessing the situation and we will update you as soon as we receive more information.

UPDATE: Just heard med report. PRMC was not ready. They had no idea what was coming. They should have been setting up their decon system.

They are now stopping traffic around PRMC.

Joe you are always on top of things. That is why I will continue to come to your blog first. ^_^

Good thing they just had a hazmat tech class. How many of the special operations people showed up to help with the call? Was parsonsburg or williards called in to assist with decon.

PRMC doesn't do decon that is the job of the Hazmat team...

So the city taxpayers paid an arm and a leg for the Hazmat vehicle and they didn't use it to decontaminate the victims on the spot?

I'd like to know where the Main St. waste water treatment plant is, I know of one treatment plant which is at the end of Marine Rd.

Don't blame anything on PRMC. Bill Gordy and Rick Hoppes were there running the show so you know it was a cluster.

Way to go Liarton 2 years later, a new fire chief and Gordy and Hoppes still ruining the fire department. Help Is On The Way!! Yeah right!

Liarton is a typical democrat politician that will tell you anything you want to hear just to get your vote.

Chlorine is a gas. You don't "decon" someone that came into contact with a gas. You give them appropriate medical attention, such as O2.

Terry Cohen pointed out they will be using HazMat supplies money to pay for support of that fireboat.

This is proof positive what that stupid fireboat will drain us of.

PRMC doesnt have a decon room. Salisbury Hazmat team doesnt do decon. Several of the county teams do recon. If the county leaders would make the chiefs get their heads out of their butts the individual departments would work together.

Wow Brue Patterson and PRMC on the ball again. PRMC has a decon tent they use, and everytime in the past that they trained on it they never got the recon process right. PRMC is a real class operation. Great Job Peggy!

Hoppes and Gordy continue you ruin the Salisbury Fire Department thanks to Ireton, Campbell, Cohen, Smith, Comegys and Shields.

Please make sure you vote for none of them the next two elections.

Not all chlorine is in gas form. Sodium Hypochlorite Solution (liquid chlorine bleach) is a liquid. This comes in different percentages.

umm I heard this call and PRMC was notified in a proper time period. they even had their decon tent set up. so im not sure where u supposly heard this.

826 its called decon, not recon. Recon is what the military does. And yes, Salisbury EMS AND PRMC both handle decon. EMS providers are specifically trained on decon as are ED healthcare providers. When the new layfield tower/ED was built, a decon unit was put it specifically for events such as this.

Liarton, Gordy, Hoppes and Simpson need to go.

You are correct , decon is useless
with this gas. You guys got a bunch of idiots in the city. The idiots are the Far Dep. and the wastewater and the government as a whole. I had to laugh at the way they responded.

Liarton hahahaha is that the same as Obamaton? Both are partisan hacks that couldn't govern a dog show. The proof is in the condition of our country and city. Both will be voted out next time their seats come up for election.

If it was gas why did the news say that there was a clean up along the park stream? Just a question don't get defensive.

The news reported that this water plant which is across from Wi Middle is ON the Wicomico River.

You can keep this as a comment or run it as a story I don't care.

The chlorine leak at the water plant shows what dangers lengths the City of Salisbury will go to in order to save a buck. The city of Salisbury nearly killed those two people.

The city refused to pay for insurance for self contained breathing devices that the crew needed that was worked on the leak. They kicked this insurance out of the budget and made public works give their equipment to the fire department thinking they had to have the insurance. The problem with this is the fire department is not going to craw several feet down a manhole to fix a leak. It is not their job. The two people trying to fix this leak had to use equipment that was not up to standard and they both inhaled fumes that sent them to the hospital. They are lucky to still be alive! Chlorine gas is highly dangerous. How old was the pipe? I know that the city still has pipes from the 1920s. Don't believe me ask the Mayor? Would he even know?

My real problem with this situation is this accident was both foreseeable and preventable. When the Council and Mayor decided to save some money on insurance they should have thought to ask who would do the jobs that require this equipment. Instead they saved a few dollars and their lack of intelligence nearly killed two city workers.

I hope you are happy Mayor and Council. If you can't give us a raise at the very least you could provide a safe working environment! We're tired of this crap.

Sincerely,

The Silent Majority of City Workers
