President Barack Obama said the Republican electoral win of the House of Representatives, with a 61-seat majority over the Democrats, “feels bad.” But the president refused to say that it reflected a rejection of his policies.
“Voters are not satisfied with the outcomes,” Obama said at a Wednesday afternoon post-election news conference. "If, right now, we had 5 percent unemployment instead of 9.6 percent unemployment, then people would have more confidence in those policy choices."
"I think I've got to take direct responsibility for the fact that we have not made as much progress as we need to make," Obama said.
But when asked if he dismissed the idea that the election results were a rejection of his policies, the president said, “Yes.”
Obama said the public might have misperceived the government’s bailout of the banks and auto industries as the “agenda as opposed to a response to an emergency,” adding, “I am sympathetic to those who looked at this and saw it as a potential overreach.”
One reporter asked the president how it felt to see the Democrats lose their majority in the House.
“It feels bad,” Obama said. “The toughest thing for the last couple of days is seeing public servants not being able to serve any more.”

NOT.....
Well atleast he admits the policies didn't work, unlike some other Presidents we've had in the past!
I doesn't matter who you have in the office of the President, if you have a House and or Senate who rejects most of what you attempt to do, nothing gets done.
I wish we could get rid of party lines and all work TOGETHER to bring this nation back to being GREAT like it USED to be! Instead, we have those who just love being on one side or the other and towing the line on everything which ever way their "party" wants it.
Be your own person and make up your OWN mind and forget the "party"!
If he didn't have a glass navel he'd never see where he was going.
I wish we had 9.6 percent unemployment. That would be great!
Imagine if only 1 out of 10 of your friends were unemployed.
America has said NO to Obama's failed policies.
Seriously? he said that? wow, how out of touch is this guy? Seriously? I can't grasp that he actually believes that statement.
If this is what he actually thinks, then I'll take a pound of whatever he is smoking!!!
The trouncing of the Democrats Tuesday and the Republicans' taking over the house has everything to do with Obama's failed policies. The voters have spoken clearly and loudly that the stimulus plan, Obama-care, and all the other policies are not working. His stating that the Democrats' huge losses are not directly attributable to him is either naivete, self-deception, or deliberate failure to take responsibility.
Wake up Mr. President.
Out of touch? Yes, because I don't think he realizes exactly how many of you dummies out there would still try to trash him if unemployment were zero, wooped up on every terrorist in the world, and taxes were 1%.
4:08 - None of that is remotely possible with his policies. Basic economics says money is a means of exchange; rather than bartering a peck of corn for a chicken each is priced at value. When one takes my peck of corn by force and give it to some one that hasn't earned it, there is no exchange. Without basic economic forces in play you will have 20% unemployment, an open invitation for terrorists, and will need multiple layers of taxes to sustain.
5:04, this recession was set up years before anyone even knew Obama, but I forgot you guys like to call him a winer when this fact is brought up. Last I checked, we were taking it to terrorists around the globe under this Pres. And your fed. taxes haven't changed, and are not likely to change under the proposals set forth. But don't let reality get in your way.
