New School Prayer

Now I sit me down in school
Where praying is against the rule
For this great nation under God
Finds mention of Him very odd.

If scripture now the class recites,
It violates the Bill of Rights.
And anytime my head I bow
Becomes a Federal matter now.

Our hair can be purple, orange or green,
That's no offense; it's a freedom scene..
The law is specific, the law is precise.
Prayers spoken aloud are a serious vice.

For praying in a public hall
Might offend someone with no faith at all..
In silence alone we must meditate,
God's name is prohibited by the state.

We're allowed to cuss and dress like freaks,
And pierce our noses, tongues and cheeks...
They've outlawed guns, but FIRST the Bible.
To quote the Good Book makes me liable.

We can elect a pregnant Senior Queen,
And the 'unwed daddy,' our Senior King.
It's 'inappropriate' to teach right from wrong,
We're taught that such 'judgments' do not belong...

We can get our condoms and birth controls,
Study witchcraft, vampires and totem poles..
But the Ten Commandments are not allowed,
No word of God must reach this crowd.

It's scary here I must confess,
When chaos reigns the school's a mess.
So, Lord, this silent plea I make:
Should I be shot; My soul please take!
Amen

That's what religious schools are for. Go there if you want to listen to your fairy tales all day.

Fairy Tales?

You mean the forced acceptance of deviant sodomitic homosexual practices as "normal"?

I believe if you don't want to pray or learn about God in school then do not listen. You cannot force someone to accept your religion as much as you can not expect others to ignore theirs. If God is mentioned in OUR COUNTRYS ANTHEM then why can he not be mentioned in our school ? If you do not like public education and opinion that is what private schools are for. This nation has crossed the line into total liberalism and it really is old. Sometimes people are offended by situations, not every one can be happy at all times this is rea life, not the fairy tale land 8:47 speaks of....

to anon 8:47 - you missed the whole point entirely. what I understand the writer to be saying is it's ok for the bad kids to show & speak their hate in school but the nice kids can't speak about their thoughts. I don't go to church but I support kindness, forgiveness and love thy neighbor. I do not support bullies and kids with guns. I just hope you are not a parent for the sake of the school and your child.

Thank you, 9:12. At least somebody here sees the light!

8:47 is absolutely correct. Freedom of religion also means freedom FROM religion. This is a public school. If we pray to Jesust, Why can't we recite Koran or Talmud?
Oh, because America was founded on Christian values. No it was not! America was founded on human values.
"The Constitution forms a secular document, and nowhere does it appeal to God, Christianity, Jesus, or any supreme being. The U.S. government derives from people (not God), as it clearly states in the preamble: "We the people of the United States, in order to form a more perfect Union...." The omission of God in the Constitution did not come out of forgetfulness, but rather out of the Founding Fathers purposeful intentions to keep government separate from religion.
Thomas Jefferson made an interpretation of the 1st Amendment to his January 1st, 1802 letter to the Committee of the Danbury Baptist Association calling it a "wall of separation between church and State." Madison had also written that "Strongly guarded. . . is the separation between religion and government in the Constitution of the United States." There existed little controversy about this interpretation from our Founding Fathers."

I thought you right wing conservatives wanted to stick with the constitution or is only appropriate when it serves your purposes only?

Gays are not a threat to society, most of them are kind and harmless, can you say the same about people who hate them. If a group of people have never personally caused you harm why do you have so much hate for them. Sounds like you're the one with the problem.

The separation of church and state was not intended to keep God out of government, it was intended to keep government out of church. http://www.awakeamericans.org/
God blessed this country when it was founded because America blessed God. They've kicked God out of our schools, now they want to kick Him out of our government and look where it has gotten us. God is not going to bless us and our economy/pocketbooks if we keep thumbing our nose at Him. Look at what happened to Israel when it rejected God in the Old Testament...there are a lot of similaries to the U.S. right now!Time for the silent majority to speak up!

Freedom of religion also means freedom FROM religion.

No, it doesn't. I don't want to be around certain people or situations so therefore, I AVOID places where they might be. I don't ban their existence like you are suggesting.

I've said it before & I'll say it again. This country was founded on believing in GOD. Our money even says so. If you don't like it... LEAVE. I'm sure you can go to countries where you can do as you please & treat people however you want without anyone chopping off a body part.

@12:24

It wasn't added to our money or the pledge of allegiance until the 1950's. Get a grip.

Not every family in the United States is Christian. Why should every families children have to pray to God in school? Takes your kids to church if you want to teach them prayer, it's not the governments job.

@ 12:54 "In God we trust" was put on money in the mid 1800s. It was adopted as the national motto in the '50s. "Under God" was added to the pledge in the '50s in response to the threat of communism. Take God off our money and out of our motto and see where we end up- communism. We are pretty close to it now with the new health care reform...

If you don't want to believe in God, then don't. That's your problem. Nobody is making these kids in school to believe in anything they don't want to believe in just because some people are believers. If my child wants to pray in school or put God in his pledge, good for them, and nobody is going to tell them otherwise!

It's funny because yes God is thrown around on our money and our anthem, but which God is never mentioned. Is it Islam's God Mohammad? Or Christ? Or Jehovah? or just plainly God for the Jewish. You all claim that since you believe in Christ that that is the God thats being referred to. Everyones so self involved.

Why is it that some people cannot seem to grasp the difference between an individual student praying on their own time, which is constitutionally protected freedom of worship, and a government appointed teacher leading a class in prayer, which is constitutionally prohibited mixing of Church and State?

Anonymous said...

Please, if there was praying in the HOMES none of these problems would exist. Amazing how schools are supposed to make up for ALL the deficiencies of the home - where are the parents? Grandparents? Neighbors?

Anonymous said...

No one HAS to pray in school. If they want to they can. A teacher cannot lead them in prayer.

Teach the child the way he should go and he will follow it.

Look around. You people who don't want God or prayer have your crimes and gangs. Nice leaders you are.

thats the problem now with kids these days....not enough GOD in them, taught to them, read to them. If you dont want to hear it dont listen but we should not take from those who do enjoy it.
You need to think about who died on the cross for u before you open your mouth with ignorant remarks.

"Religious" schools cost money! The money I pay for my child's religious education takes the cost from the tax payers. Should I get a tax break -- yes! Will I -- No! Separation of Church and State.

Don't blame me for the troubles of the public sector -- I have left them behind.

6:34 I'm a full-blown atheist, and I've never even had a speeding ticket. I did once run a stop sign and get caught, and it wasn't for a gang initiation. Atheists and agnostics are 20% of the population in America, and much higher in European countries that actually have much better core values, less crime, better economies and lower unemployment. Keep on judging.

It'd funny how the supporters of pray in school will not allow students to pray to allah. What would happen if a student said a prayer to satan in school? Would the fanitical right support that, or would there be an out cry to not aloow this? Pray any time you want, just dont force other's who dont have the same beliefs to be subjected to it. Pray comes from the heart and soul, it doesn't have to be out loud!
