WASHINGTON - By now, most drivers in the D.C. region are very familiar with speed and red light cameras. But what about school bus cameras?
The cameras aren't the kind that keep an eye on what's going on inside the bus. These electronic monitors are installed outside of school buses, near the flashing stop sign that pops out when kids are getting on and off the bus.
If drivers pass a bus when it has that stop sign extended, they may get a picture of their license plate snapped.
A number of school buses in Frederick County are now outfitted with the cameras, and the Montgomery County School system tells WTOP it is moving forward with its own school bus camera program.
Maryland's transportation chief sees the cameras as another tool to keep kids safe.

Montgomery County has not only cameras inside the bus but there is also sound on them now. They also have a camera that faces both ways on the outside of the bus for people that dont stop and people that try to pass the bus.
I wonder how long it will take before Dave Reeve looks into this....
