HOW MANY STATE EMPLOYEES' JOBS WOULD BOB EHRLICH "RESTRUCTURE"?


Baltimore, MD (Sept. 2, 2010) - Today, in response to Bob Ehrlich's blatant attempt to pander to state employees by promising to end furloughs, O'Malley-Brown Campaign Manager Tom Russell issued the following statement:

"Bob Ehrlich's insincere overtures to state employees represent election-year pandering at its worst. Ehrlich promises state workers he'll end furloughs, but he won't tell them about his plans to layoff state employees. It's a familiar pattern with Ehrlich--promise the moon but deliver nothing.

"In contrast, Governor O'Malley has been honest about the tough decisions we've made together to cut spending and at the same time keep our workers on the job. Like every family in our state that has had to tighten its belt, Governor O'Malley has asked our state employees to do more with less over these last four years and they have delivered results for the people of our state."

Speaking on his radio show earlier this year, Ehrlich said "I just think it [furloughing employees] is a bad management practice...I'd much rather restructure...If you're going to restructure a number of jobs, you do it. But furloughs is really a slow bleed." [Kendel and Bob Ehrlich Show, WBAL-AM, 1/30/10]

Ehrlich was expected to address the furlough issue at an endorsement event with the Maryland Classified Employees Association. The Executive Director of MCEA is a former Republican Delegate and current Republican candidate for that same office.

I think that state employees should be laid off if they are not productive. It doesn't take six men to dig a hole with one shovel.
It happened in front of my house all day long. Just an example.

I know of several state employees that do very little every day, yet draw upper grade paychecks. These lazy employees pawn their work off on hard working, dedicated, burned out employees, who are then threatened with their jobs if they don't continue to do the work of 6 people. These hardworking employees are making several grades lower than the "supervisors" and are doing three times the work. I say, consolidate some of the positions and then get rid of the non workers. However, this will never happen because in virtually every state agency there is a culture of cronyism that is so entrenched, it can never be fixed. Only if people are selected for positons of authority based on qualifications and proven leadership ability, rather than how much butt they can kiss, will the culture of corruption change and the state can become a fiscally responsible entity.

What were you doing watching them "all day long". You must be some sort of a welfare recipient to have that much time on your hands. Get a job.

Like I've always said, Ehrlich is for Ehrlich.

He couldn't give a rat's a.....s
for a furloughed state employee or for the poor taxpayer who foots the bill. If he did then why did Maryland's budget increase 30% during his reign.

Joe, was just curious..not trying ti start anything but i was wondering why you didnt say anything about the incident at wcdc and the deputy assualting the detainee caught all on video and defended by prison guards? thanks

Nope, I happen to be gainfully employed....I pay taxes to support those who are too lazy to work. I also am going to school, and raising a family....what else would you like to know?

There could be a number or reasons they were home. Stay at home mom retired, sick, or maybe they are unemployed due to no fault of their own. You jumped on them pretty quick. Maybe it hit to close to home for you. Pick up that shovel and start digging. GET TO WORK!

The economy sucks and politicians are saying the things that one would expect them to say in an election year...but please do not stereotype all State...or Government employees as lazy and/or worthless. Granted, there are some and I'd be willing to bet that not all the employees where you work (assuming that you do) are absolutely wonderful either. If you think all State employees aren't of any value...maybe you would like to tour one of our Medium Security Correctional Institutions?????

Ireton needs to go. He has had plenty of time to get rid of Hoppes, Gordo and Bragg however he has chosen to jump right in bed with them. Please start a Recall Petition for change!

Sorry but there is alot of state fat to be trimmed and Ehrlich is the guy to do it.However,Dept of Corrections should be exempt-they cannot afford to be understaffed.Most of the bloat is in the various Health and Human resources departments.
