DEAR MR. O -- WICOMICO WANTS TO KNOW

Remember the theme of the old TV show “Car 54 - Where Are You”? After reciting a myriad of events in the Big Apple requiring services -- Khrushchev's due at Idlewild -- the announcer asks for the location of the police cruiser that has not reported in per protocol. Is anyone else astounded by Joe Ollinger’s absence and silence on recent events in Wicomico County’s government – most recently the big budget brouhaha – that will have great importance for all County residents? Where does he stand, or does he have no view on those matters?

It seems that Mr. Ollinger is not to be seen or heard except to pontificate about such pie-in-the-sky as combining the City of Salisbury and Wicomico County as a “metropolitan government” and other things that will never happen. Because as the County Executive he would be involved in more mundane things like the budget and term insurance for County employees, etc., he should be front and center at public meetings, addressing such issues as whether there should be a public information officer at a cost of about $75,000 per year.

If John Cannon or any other competent person is considering whether to run against Rick Pollitt, let’s hope that they decide to do so. It looks like Ollinger can’t or won’t cut the mustard.
