Moreau Tosses Six Brilliant Innings for Second Win
Salisbury, Md. – Four Delmarva Shorebirds pitchers combined to silence the Legends in a series opening 3-0 shutout at Arthur W. Perdue on Thursday night. Nate Moreau earned his second win of the season in six shutout frames. The Shorebirds have now won seven straight games at Arthur W. Perdue Stadium.
The Shorebirds scored all three of their runs in the top of the fourth inning. After Jose Cisnero recorded two outs, Garabez Rosa hit a single. Then, Luis Bernardo hit a double to deep right field. With runners at second and third, T.J. Baxter connected on a single through the left side of the infield to score both runners. Ty Kelly followed with a double to the right-center field gap to give the ‘Birds a 3-0 lead.
In six innings, Moreau allowed four hits and no runs. He also struck out three and walked just one. Nick Haughian tossed a scoreless seventh and Brent Allar hurled a scoreless eighth.
Josh Dowdy entered in the ninth inning to earn his eleventh save of the season in as many chances.
Ty Kelly went 3-for-3 with an RBI and two doubles to lead the ‘Birds’ offensive attack. Garabez Rosa also had two hits.
The last time the Shorebirds won seven straight games at Perdue Stadium was in 2008 between August 14 and 29.
The Shorebirds look for a season-long five game winning streak in game two of the series on Friday night at Perdue Stadium. RHP Jesse Beal makes the start for Delmarva.
