ANNAPOLIS, Md. -- The House and Senate heard nearly two dozen gun-related measures in Annapolis on Thursday.
Supporters of the Second Amendment right to bear arms are crying conspiracy. They claim committee chairmen in both the House and Senate decided to hold hearings on gun legislation on the same day and at the same time to divide and conquer their opposition.
They are particularly concerned with bills that tighten the rules for the sale and transfer of fire arms.
"They try to tell you it's going to be a firearms safety bill, and really what it is, is a further restriction on the rights of law-abiding citizens to purchase and own handguns," said Paul Dembfrowski, the president of MarylandShallIssue.org.
The gun bills under consideration this session include banning them from college campuses, tightening record-keeping, granting immunity in cases of self defense and letting domestic abuse victims seeking a gun permit to get in the front of the line.
There's also a measure allowing members of the military who have right-to-carry permits in other states the same privilege in Maryland.
Another bill makes it illegal for convicted felons to possess ammunition.

Once again, the barons and baronesses in Annapolis show their distrust of the peasants.
More obstacles being placed in the way of law abiding citizens being allowed to defend themselves from violent attacks from the riff raff who don't obey the laws already in place.
Does the term "home invasion" ring a bell? It's something we seldom ever heard of previously, but is becoming more prevalent everyday, and what options do the almighty powers in Annapolis leave you with?? Cower behind a door with a cell phone to call 911? Be a good sheeple and wait for the police?
If you are a law abiding citizen, there is no reason to jump through hoops created by the people in Annapolis who are there to represent you and your best interests in order to protect yourself.
Lord knows, the thugs busting down your front door didn't jump through any hoops, he either stole his weapon or bought it out of a car trunk! The NICS process is more than sufficient to deter illicit gun purchases.
Allow more law abiding citizens the freedom to arm themselves, both at home and out in public (concealed carry) and the criminal element will think twice before attempting anything where human interference could jeopardize the criminal's success. They don't generally exercise in their chosen activity when a law enforcement officer is present.
It's time the citizen assumed responsibility for his or her safety, how long before budget cuts impact the number of LEO's available? But, we can always count on the powers that be to never touch the sacred cow entitlement programs!
more bs from lawmakers. only thing that makes sense is the immunity for self defense clause.
They are gearing up to come take your weapons people.
Don't register them. Don't make it easy for them.
An unarmed populance is a less resistive one. Then they have free reign to do whatever they want. ( Even more so than the do now)
