Last week, in their wisdom [not] the town fathers appealed the recent decision by the Wicomico County Circuit Court which struck down the rezoning that would have allowed the massive “Waller Landing” development to occur if certain other things were satisfied – such as a huge expansion of the Town’s sewage treatment capacity. And the town clowns are planning to re-rezone the site before their appeal is decided in Annapolis.
By the way, the town’s special legal counsel for zoning was sanctioned last year for filling a frivolous appeal. And, now – surprise – a property tax increase is being discussed by the jackeroos who run Hebron.
But, there’s an election in a month or so. The town residents better do Spring housecleaning in Hebron’s government. It’s a disaster waiting to happen and time is running out.
Update -- a comment to this post has been made which states that Hebron’s property tax rate was greatly reduced in 2001, and that is so. But the comment does not explain the reason why it was reduced:
In 2001 Maryland’s property tax assessment scheme was changed to "full value" from the previous scheme that applied a large discount to the full value. That change had a profound effect because previously the tax rates had been set at the level needed to have a balanced budget based on the much lower, discounted assessed values – i.e, at higher rates in order to generate the tax revenue needed to balance the budget. After the shift to the "full value" the amount of taxes paid would have skyrocketed, so as a simultaneous change, the tax rates were lowered throughout the entire State (not just in Hebron) by an appropriate amount to maintain the same tax revenue level.

Why not look at what Hebron has done over the course of several years. In 2001, the property tax rate was cut in HALF from .80 to .40 per $100. Now, there is talk of a TWO CENT INCREASE to cover the cost of garbage pick-up. That would still leave residents .38 per $100 ahead of the game. That's not all bad if you ask me, a resident and taxpayer of Hebron unlike the person who did the original post. Joe, lets see if you print the truth.

The reason for Hebron's previous reduction in tax demonstrates how clueless Hebron leaders truly are:
they annexed Chapel Branch subdivison and reduced the taxes because they thought the new taxes gotten from Chapel Branch would 'take care of everything'.
Hebron leaders are absolutely not bright lightbulbs!!
Hebron Commissioners (EXCEPT FOR MR. SEBALD) have spent so much taxpayer money and their arrogance is beyond belief.
Mr. Sebald was the ONLY Commissioner to vote against the tax increase. He has more courage than all the rest of them combined!
Two Commissioners are up for re-election and BOTH of them voted for this tax increase. Will there be anyone to oppose them in the election????

People complain about Hebron and yet in the upcoming election no one has come forward to run.Very few residents come to the town meetings so quit yer bitchin and PUT UP OR SHUT UP!
