Delaware State Police Tuesday January 26, 2010 investigated a theft of a motor vehicle in the 38000 block of East Murphy Circle Selbyville, Delaware.
Troopers responded to the residence and learned that a 2001 Ford F-250 was taken from the victim’s yard. The person in possession of the vehicle was an employee of “Weather or Not.”
The victim heard a noise outside his residence and when he went to investigate observed the Ford F-250 as missing. The victim notified the police who responded. While the Trooper was investigating the incident the victim observed his truck approaching his home. The driver Clyde C. Campbell-20 of Selbyville accelerated from the area. The trooper pursued the Ford truck and initially lost site of it. The Trooper however caught up to the Ford which had stopped on Hudson Road N/O SR 54. The Trooper next observed a female Toni Palmes walking away from the truck. Campbell had fled on foot prior to the Troopers arrival and later apprehended at his residence.
Upon interviewing Palmes the Trooper was given a misleading story of why Palmes was around the area. Troopers eventually obtained information which advised that Clyde C. Campbell was operating Palmes’ van earlier when it ran out of gas. Campbell next pulled into a private driveway than approached the Ford truck. Campbell gained access into the truck, located keys and drove away. Campbell and Palmes were actually en route back to the victim’s location to return the truck when they came into contact with the police and fled.
Campbell was arrested for the theft of the truck and Palmes for Hindering the Troopers efforts in conducting an investigation. Campbell was released on $3,000 unsecured bond and Palmes on $500.00 unsecured bond.

He was just borrowing the Ford so he could take it to the van that ran out of gas and then borrow a gallon of gas so they could get the van going again. No doubt he would have taken the Ford right to a gas station, replaced the gallon of gas, had it washed as a thank you, and returned it exactly where he got it.

People, don't leave your keys in your vehicle. It's STUPID!
Anybody who leaves the vehicle unlocked and with the keys easy to find inside the vehicle deserves to be spanked. Here's a crime that wouldn't have happened if the owner was just a little more protective of his property. Five of his seconds would have made all of this not happen.
Granted, the people who took the truck are idiots, but we all have to look out for the idiots because there are becoming more and more of them out to victimize us.
What an idiot. I used to have a Dodge Intrepid and it would run out of gas before the needle got to E. Down and out, I went up to a guy's house and bought 2 1/2 gallons of gas and gave him $10 as a deposit on the can because he was suspicious I wouldn't bring it back.

When I first moved to this area I ran out of gas. I went to several homes nearby and asked people if I could use the gas from the lawn mower cans and that I would provide them with a full can once I got to the gas station. Everyone was obliging in giving me their gas.
Where is the common sense?? Need I say more!
