Sharon In Her Section 8 Home!

Sharon Jasper has spent 57 of her 58 years dedicated to one cause and one cause only, and has nothing to show for her dedicated servitude...

She has lived in Section 8 housing all but 1 of her 58 years. It was a legacy passed down from her parents who moved into Section 8 housing in 1949 when she was six months old. She has passed the legacy down to her children, but fears they may have to get jobs to pay for the utilities and deposits.

She laments about her one year hiatus from the comfort of her Section 8 nirvana, ' I tried it for a year -- you know, working and all. It's not anything I would want to go through again, or wish on anyone in my family, but I am damn proud of that year.'

Sharon was moved out of her St. Bernard housing project after hurricane Katrina and into a new, yet albeit, substandard quarterage. As can be noted from the above photo of her new Section 8 home, it is repugnant and not suitable for someone of Sharon Jasper's seniority status in the system. 'Don't be fooled by them hardwood floors,' says Sharon . 'They told me they were putting in scraped wood floors cause it was more expensive and elegant, but I am not a fool -- that was just a way to make me take scratched up wood because I am black. The 60 inch HD TV? It may look nice but it is not plasma. It's not a plasma because I'm black. Now they want me to pay a deposit and utilities on this dump.' 'Do you know why?'

She has held her tongue in silence through the years of abuse by the system, but it came to a head at the New Orleans ' city council meeting where discussions were under way about the tearing down of the St. Bernard projects. When a near riotous exchange between groups opposing the tearing down of St. Bernard and groups wanting the dilapidated buildings torn down and newer ones built, Sharon unleashed verbal hell with her once silenced tongue. The object of her oratory prowess was an acquiescent poor white boy in attendance. The context of her scathing rebuke was, 'Just because you pay for my house, my car, my big screen and my food, I will not be treated like a slave!' and 'Back up and Shut up! Shut up, white boy! Shut up, white boy!'

Recapping from the mental log of the city council minutes in her head, Sharon repines, 'Our families have been displaced all over the United States. They are being forced to commit crimes in cities they are unfamiliar with. It is a very uncomfortable situation for them. Bring them back, then let's talk about redevelopment.'

Sharon directs the reporter's attention across the street to Duncan Plaza where homeless people are living in tents and states that, 'I might do better out there with one of these tents.' She further lamented her sentiments about her situation, 'I might be poor, but I don't have to live poor.'

Any wonder why this country is in the shape it is? Maybe we should all just chip in and get her the plasma TV she so richly deserves!

Remember to pay your taxes - Sharon needs your help

Spread the wealth!

See snopes, most of this is confirmed.

Oh Boy, this Post really ticked off ONE individual we all know. Sorry JT but your comments will not get through.

Anonymous said...

I never doubted that this was true, but what I don't understand is how does she not feel any shame or remorse for what she does? And more importantly, how do we let this happen? It is truly obsurd...

Anonymous said...

I was aware of this lady and it is ashame. She should be kicked out on the streets and forced to work.
We have supported this kind of action for too long , if obama continues we will be in deep crap.
People like this have no values , or religion , they are a thorn in the side to society.

Did you step on JTs toes?

I can't even begin to comment on this post. This woman has a nicer TV than I do and I've been working all my life and raised two children who also work. Go figure!

Some people are simply smarter than the rest of us.

I feel so stupid.

Anonymous said...

No surprise to me. I see it all the time in DC. Even in Salisbury if you go the section 8 developments you will see luxury cars in the parking lot.

Anonymous said...

That poor woman! She doesn't know that LCD is better that plasma. Isn't the government educating her on the finer things in life? How is she even getting by with that nasty tv..???
There should be a time limit on public assistance, at least on the status quo of it...after a year you should at least be required to take a class to increase marketable skills. Or something.

The key words are "passed down her legacy" This is what they are taught people. The true definition of an "Uncle Sam Baby"

Anonymous said...

This is why the country is in the sad shape its in. When your dumb enough to make statements like this, its no wonder. Everything is given to her for over fifty years and she believes the white man is cheating her. This is not isolated to New Orleans. It goes on right here in Salisbury and our government allows it. Dont blame the people receiving free housing because they're smart enough to milk the syatem. Blame the Federal government. Billions are wasted every year on crap like this and we the American people let it continue. Our country has gone to hell in a handbasket.

It is a shame that in this day and time there are people "allowed" to live off the system. I had to get help "once" and that was hard for me to even walk through the doors. It is meant to be a "hand up...NOT a hand out!!!" It is only getting worse because this does get to be a generational thing. Kids grow up seeing things given for free so why pay for it. There are people out there who need help but there are also people out there that need to get off their a#@ and contribute!! I believe you should not be able to take more out of the system than you have put in. Period!

how can she get by without a computer? poor lady.

Sharon you have been blogged!

Now you know why people are having such a hard time getting their unemployment benefits.

Anonymous said...

Anon 9:12 agreed! If people have not made a move to better their own lives they should not be entitled to living off of the taxes of those who have. So tired of supporting these menaces to society.

Well if that ain't one hot mess!!! How dare the white man supress Ms. Sharon! What were THEY thinking? I must say, Sharon has definetly motivated me! I'm gonna see what I can to to lose my job, my 11 years of tenure shouldn't be that hard to give up. Then I'm gonna stop paying my mortgage. My fixed 5.7% 30 year mortgage, of which I have 23 more years of paying should be easy to unload. Then I'm gonna see what I can do to get me some HUD housing, some DSS healthcare for my children, an Independence Card for my Prime Rib steaks and Pepsi. I wanna set an example for my children, you know pass on a legacy!!!!!!!!!! Go-bama, Go-bama, Go-Go-Go-Bama!!!!

The one thing that jumps out at you is ignorance here. Education is the path to success in all races. The statements of this women reflect no logic and a sense of entitlement. Sadly this mentality is very prevalent throughout society and its not getting better. We're spending more on education than ever and seeing fewer results. Blame your government and poor parenting on this issue.

Cut out the welfare and housing programs tomorrow and see what happens. You either get off your lazy butt or you starve. This country is going broke because of people like this and we allow it to happen. When ther are no more handouts you have to fend for yourself. Sink or swim.

Anonymous said...

This is going on everywhere. Even here in Salisbury and has been for generations. Simply go to Food Lion at Pecan Square any given day and you will see nicely dressed people talking on iphones with kids wearing the nicest Nike shoes available paying for groceries with food stamps. And they have no problem doing it!! They actually seem proud of it. Anyone dressed like this and owning state of the art phones and such should be arrested for fraud on the spot. I'm tired of it as well.

Anonymous said...

I'm sure her parents are proud!!! And to think of the way she talked to that boy, just because he was white. If he had given back as good as he got, he would probably have been sued--then she would lose her gov't check!!!!

Anonymous said...

Way to play on peoples fears and maximize a minimum Joe. The right decries entitlement programs when a large portion of the same people take advantage of them. How many of you are pulling unemployment now or are on public assistance.

Jett, "this country is going broke because of people like this...." is a fallacy that the right likes to shovel. Social security, medicaid, and medicare are eating holes through the US budget. Public housing and other entitlements account for a miniscule portion of the budget compared to these.

So yes, end entitlement programs. Just be ready to make grandma pay for her medical treatment by herself. "Oh grandma, you didn't save for your retirement? Too bad, no more monthly check". And "hey you, little kid". No immunizations for you, tough luck.

joealbero said...

anonymous 10:10, spoken like a true wet pants liberal. Why do I get the strong impression I know exactly who you are!

Oh, by the way, the Democrats have used that scare tactic for far too long. In fact, here's my answer to you referencing Grandma. Not to worry. I was born an American and I'll take care of my own Grandmother without your help. If I can't do it, I know of at least 30+ other Family members that would be honored and proud to.

Says a lot about you Democrats, doesn't it!

They really need to revamp the entire section 8/food stamp/welfare system. I think it should help people who need it, but after a few years it should be cut off. It shouldnt continue for an entire lifetime.

Anonymous said...

I'm all for cutting entitlements but let's be clear on what needs to be cut. It's easy to stoke (racial/class) fears but that only takes us away from the truth. Cut costs by reforming the BIG entitlement programs. Don't let them fool you into thinking they are saving big bucks by tackling section 8.

the biggest crock in Maryland is that the welfare cards are called "independence" cards. someone needs a dictionary. they should be "dependence" cards.

Anonymous said...

Joe, I'm straight independent and am simply telling you how it is, no scare tactic. Do you disagree that it is SS and healthcare weighing us down alot more than section 8 or foodstamps?

I say great, take care of granny. But note that what fits for your family won't work for alot of others. So either have it your way and end the entitlements (meaning plenty of people in need won't get assistance) or provide entitlements while minimizing abuse. Overall don't let the politicians fool you about what is really going on e.g. "welfare queens in cadillacs"

@ 10:19: I was a cashier at a local grocery store for several years. I worked all kinds of crazy shifts. I didn't like it, but I did it. It put me through nursing school. What used to chap my a$$ the most was the people coming through the line with their food stamps, independence cards or WIC vouchers to purchace ridiculous amounts of expensive foods. I couldn't afford prime rim, shrimp, fish, lobster, twinkies, susie-q's, and all the other top shelf brand name foods, I can now, but I (still) don't purchase them- principle! Anyway, what gete me is they can eat like a king, while my hard working a$$ is busy supporting their lazy uneducated a$$. That just burns me up, to this day it gets my goat! And the individuals with their WIC vouchers, don't get me started on them. They have a free pass for multiple gallons of milk, boxes of cereals, blocks of cheese, bags of beans, tubs of peanut butter, cans of tuna, baby formula, etc, and they redeem their voucher of one gallon of milk. What about all the other items on their voucher. All you came to the store for was a gallon of milk, what about the rest of the nourishing groceries? Guess you don't need them. Oh that's right, I forgot, you have prime rib to go home to... thanks to your dependence card!

as far as ss and medicare alot of these people have now figured out how to scam those programs by delcaring their child is mentally slow, (wonder why?). They then get access to those entitlement programs. amzzing since they have never paid a dime into them. No ne minds lending a hand and helping those who need help. but this should be a temporary situation.
57 years is not a temporary situation! Also makes me wonder who the racist is here?

This is reality everywhere. There is no incentive to pull yourself up by your hip boots.

What happened to the welfare to work program? That program was supposed to be a stepping stone to give recipients three years to transition into self sufficiency.

Even in Socialistic countries everyone is given a job.

This only encourages the hard workers to try to find ways to around the IRS when they know that their taxes are supporting these lazy slugs.

You are SO right.I would be curious as to see what the ratio is between working class and welfare class families of "slow kids".Sadly, any child with behavorial problems becomes a meal ticket once the parent has them labeled "slow".
Frankly, the only way to even get a grip on these social issues is to find a way to make todays young women stop having children so casually with just any man.No forethought,no planning, just having babies because they can.I can do a handstand if I wanted, but at my age its not a good idea.Thats about the same mentality as these young women have.
Funny, the verify word was "brainon" How many out there have their "brainoff"?lol

Just goes to show what problems we have in this country. Dont work and get everything given to you. Try to support yourself and don't get any help. My daughter works full time making barely over minimum wage. She has two children and does not get support yet though she has applied for it through Child Support Services. She was turned down for daycare assistance because others who won't get child support need it more than she does. She went to apply for energy assistance and was told to come back when she had a cut off notice or they couldn't help her. No wonder people end up quitting their jobs to let the governement support them. The government makes it impossible to try to help yourself.

Anonymous said...

Everyone is right to be angry but some of you are way off. For the most part, parents are NOT the ones labeling the kids slow. In fact it has been a frequent complaint, especially for many black students, that counselors and others want to label the kids as "slow" instead of recognizing that there are other factors at play.

Anonymous said...

Ted and others still don't want to account for the fact that even with a relatively few people abusing the system (like chick in the post), it is by far SS, medicare, and medicaid that are costing us. If the people don't want to recognize this and attack the issue, then no wonder the politicians won't.

It's easier to pull out a story like the one above and blame it on her.Too bad it overshadows the majority of folks busting their butt, often times at part time jobs that keep them working just under full-time hours, who are using public assistance as a spring board to success. No why many of you don't see them? Because what kid wants to stick around Salisbury? How many great jobs is that person going to find by staying in this area?

Anonymous said...

Check out "new orleans public housing". There is one video of high rise "projects" where the black rapper narrating the video says that families pay $10 a month to stay there. These cities are drains on our society. Example: Baltimore City

Someone ought to inform this woman she is stealing.

tedh said...

Anon 4:58 I do get it just fine that the purpose of the system was intended as a hand up not a hand out. If you are disabled or elderly is one thing but flat out lazy is another. There needs to be rules.
1) Time limit on benefits
2) Mandatory drug testing
3) If you fail the drug test 3 times you lose your kids.
4) Pass drug testing and rehabilitation for 3 months you may get your kids back.
5) You must look and have proof of such that you are seeking employment.

Anonymous said...

Anybody want to take a guess as to which political party she is affiliated with?

Anonymous said...

to 4:48 p.m.

Please tell your daughter to apply again. Something does not sound right. Anyone who works IS eligible for the child care help as long as their income is not over the limits. Child support is concidered income as well as wages but if she is not getting child support, she needs to check into this.

Maybe if more qualified counselors were let into the school system, & directors qualified to run these at-risk programs were hired, then children w/ issues wouldn't be pampered & by white administrators. Telling them they're crazy & need medication. Then when they get the adult age the court system pays no attention to the add bull. For Fyi. there are rampant white ones to. especially the one who was on tv w/ his fronting mom

Regardless of who penned it first - or not - there is a belief that a the world's greatest civiilizations average existence is about 200 years. We're 30 plus years past that. Those civilizations generally fall once voters - if they were allowed to vote - always voted for canditate who promised the most from the public treasury. These civilizations went through stages of - from Bondage to Spiriatual Faith - Spiritual Faith to great courage - great courage to liberty - liberty to abundance - abundance to complacency - complacency to apathy - apathy to dependence (or out indepence card) and finally dependence back to bondage. Where is this person's values in this line up - and those that share her values - taking this great nation? PJ

Stop assuming that your itty bitty tax dollars supports everyone around the world, when in actuality, it probably supports someone in your family. your child, niece, nephew, aunt uncle, mother, father etc., Just like joe flaccos, her parents, and her tax dollars supports melissa's section 8,medical, and food stamps, Ray lewis, my parents & my tax dollars support my food stamps, & medical. & we both work what should be good jobs. (she's white, Im black). & guess what, she got section 8 & I couldn't. Then again I didn't want it, but if I had no other choice, guess what? Lol. Id take it to.

Its a trend and when u are raised on section 8 and thats all u know and see al your life you fall right into your parents foot steps when u see you can lay on the couch and watch a 60 inch screen TV while the tax payers are out there working for them then why work . The system is broke if a older person needed help and has worked all there lives they will tell them they get 15 dollars to much on social security to get any help and they have to decide if they want to eat or buy there medicine to keep them alive and no body will help them . But you dont have to work or do anything just lay at home collect a check and food stamp while watching a big flat screen tv this isnt fair . If they are going to get social services I think they should have to work I dont care if its sweeping the streets something we shouldnt be just handing them money because they want to lay at home and make babies . Make them work for there checks and food stamps and I bet you see a lot of them getting real jobs. Lets turn this country around.

Other than that, I agree with ya.

BTW I consider myself a fiscal conservative libertarian. I believe in the safety net, but I think we need a net in front of the net to filter out the dead fish.

There is a difference when someone has a rough patch and has to collect unemployment, or grandma collecting social security; atleast they have paid into the system. People like the scum in the post have never paid in and are just a drain. Just like with Katrina, they were more worried about looting walmart for tv's than trying to save their own butts. One thing I will never understand is they couldn't get out of new Orleans in 4 days, but they could get to Washington in one for the inaguration! And remember all the trash left behind? That will be etched in my mind forever.

This is terrible, and of course this woman deserves blame. However she is not the only one to blame as somewhere around 99% of all U.S. voters support a government that has created this sense of entitlement for generations of people like this lady, who see no incentive in working.

We also help create and condone regulations and government actions that discourage people from working, make working almost impossible in some cases when it comes to self employment, etc.

And this isn't just "liberals." There are some big government "conservatives" who write and comment here who are state fetishists who have never met a government code or regulation they don't like- supporting policies that discourage self improvement.

Anonymous said...

4:48 is correct, we too have watched our hard working children barely scrapping by, but still working and have wondered why the system is not kinder or more helpful.

However, I would like to point out that Obama has only been in office for one year and has inherited a government that has largely been in the control of Republicans for the past 24 years. Why was this problem not addressed then? Let's stop blaming Obama and the Democrats and start blaming Congress for taking the easy way out on these tough issues - its time for them to get to work with that scalpel and do something for a change that is good for the country vs ensuring their reelection!
