D.C. City Council Votes To Legalize Gay Marriage

WASHINGTON - The Washington, D.C., City Council voted Tuesday to legalize gay marriage in the nation's capital, handing supporters a victory after a string of recent defeats in Maine, New York and New Jersey.

Mayor Adrian Fenty has promised to sign the bill, which passed 11-2, and gay couples could begin marrying as early as March. Congress, which has final say over Washington's laws, could reject it, but Democratic leaders have suggested they are reluctant to do so.

The bill had overwhelming support among council members and was expected to pass, though opponents have vowed to try to get Congress or voters to overturn it.

The Democrats are only represented by the most vile and discusting, or radicals in this country.
The regular working people that the Dems used to represent are ignored.
Tiem to vote every any and every Democrat out of office. AT ALL LEVELS OF GOVERNMENT!
These people are enemies of this country and constitution!

Republicans always want less government. Unless that government is enforcing their religious views on other people... then its fair game. A gay couple should have the same rights as a straight couple. I think the easiest way for that to happen is for the government to recognize nothing more then a civil union, which gives the same rights a a marrage does today. Let the churches decided who they want to allow to get "married" in their churchs. The doctrine of Seperate but Equal was a terrible idea in the issue of race, but in the seperation of church and gay rights it could work.

Good, maybe some of the gays and democrats will move from Maryland into DC. They should feel right at home there with Barney Frank.

Don't be surprised to see animal lovers jumping on this marriage bandwagon.

The gays are a minority , they will get what they want. They will also get what they don't want , AIDS. Natures way of cleaning the earth. I'm not a republican or a democrate I'm just an american who is well adjusted with my head screwed on right. I have religion , morals and values.D.C. is a good place for them , it's already scewed-up , so it really doesn't matter if 2 men get married or 2 women get married. Go visit Marion Barry and he will help you , Ha! Ha!

I said that the Democrats represent the most vile and discusting in this country.

Gay is not only immoral, but it's vile discusting and contrary to biology!
Unless you believe in creationism, then the queers will soon become extint as they are not reproducing while practicing their discusting behavior

Of course all Democrats are evil and Republicans are angels. There are no gays amongst republicans Let's see.

Mark Foley - congressman
Ted Haggard - evangelical pastor, now that's ironic
Larry Craig - senator
Bob Allen - McCain campaign manager
Glenn Murphy - chairman of the young republicans.

And the folks in Washington want representation in Congres without having to move from a District where there has never been representation. They've got their Marion Barry, a murder capitol where guns are illegal, and, now legal gay unions. Let them stay an leave normal people alone.

Wow you people are hate-filled and ignorant. Heaven forbid you have a gay child. I am proud of DC for recognizing that this is no longer the 1920's and rules need to change. Looks like some of you will die with hate in your heart.

5:03 and 5:05- I'd flunk both of you for your grammatical and spelling errors. The way that a person writes tells a lot about him or her. To set the record straight (no pun intended), a person doesn't choose to be gay or straight. Knowing that one is gay isn't any different than knowing that one is straight- you just KNOW. As for your other closed-minded thoughts, you might have "religion," but Jesus preached love, not hate and hypocrisy. Great Christian, hoping that all gay people get AIDS. I hope your dumb ass gets a brain. I hear the Wizard can help with that, and he can give you a heart as well! Walk a mile in my shoes.
