800,000 Doses Of Kids' H1N1 Vaccine Recalled

ATLANTA — Health officials are recalling hundreds of thousands of doses of swine flu vaccine after tests indicated they may not be potent enough to protect against the virus.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention notified doctors about the recall Tuesday. The recall involves about 800,000 doses made by Sanofi Pasteur. The doses are pre-filled syringes intended for young children, ages 6 months to almost three years.

Health officials recommend children those ages get two doses, spaced about a month apart.

Health officials say it's not clear how many doses have already been given, but they don't think children need to be re-vaccinated. The lots passed potency tests when they were first shipped, but tests indicate the potency waned after.

Sanofi, who manufactures the vaccine, said there is no safety concerns with the recalled lots.

gee go figure, vaccine resistent H1N1, vaccines not "potent enough", people becoming ill from vaccinations.... all within the first few months, wonder what will come of these quick fix vaccinations in a couple years? Cancer, nervous system impairments, shortened life expectancies. No thanks I will continue to take my chances.

11:51- I agree. This is exactly why our family (two adults, a 2 year old, and an infant) did not receive this vaccine. It's no surprise to me that this happened, what with all the rushing to get it produced. People don't seem to get that the most effective way to prevent the spread of the flu is to practice good hygiene, ie. handwashing techniques.

I understand that the H1N1 vaccine is to be added to the standard flu vaccine next year. That scare the crap out of me.

I was hesitant at first but I was more afraid of my children contracting h1n1 and then I would be sorry in the end that I didnt take the chance to protect them. Ok so the dosages werent potent enough, at least its not like they contained something that caused harm in another way. You have to trust your Dr.. and mine told me to vaccinate them to be safe.

No anon 6:35 you don't "have" to trust your doctor. You have to inform yourself about the pros and cons and then make an independent decision as to what you think is best for you and/or your family.

There is plenty of vaccine research information on the internet. You can learn all you need to know to make an informed decision.

Please look into the matter - for the sake of your kids.

Big Pharma makes a lot of money off us. It is true.

But the board members of these Big Pharma companies care about us. They want to do the right thing. They are trying to take care of us.
Really, they are. Really, they care.

It's not all about money. Really.
