Class 26, wow. That's what I call proactive policing. I can recall Gary Comegys saying during his campaign that we needed community policing in Salisbury. Funny thing is, I haven't heard a word of it since. He claimed that crime shouldn't fall fully on the police department and that citizens needed to get involved. It must have been all talk. Great work Ocean City.
10:18 you may be interested in knowing that Salisbury PD in cooperation with the Sheriff's office sponsored a 16 week Citizens Police Academy years ago that was very successful but when our brillant mayor BPT fired Coulbourne Dykes, that effort stopped. You are right about Salisbury "waking up" - we need to wake up and fire that damn chief.
I think the first two commenters don't know what a citizens' police academy is. It's simply a way for ordinary citizens to step into the world of a police officer so they have a better appreciation for the job and the people that do it. Attendees of these "acadamies" don't not go out into the community and prevent crime. What the departments do hope they become are informed citizens and supporters of law enforcement and their programs for years to come.
