Do You Feel The Salisbury Fire Department Needs The Newly Proposed Fire Boat?

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

Anonymous said...

Hell NO!

Anonymous said...

Yes, with the continued deterioration of the Wicomico River, it is only a matter of time before it catches on fire. ;)

Anonymous said...

ABSOLUTELY NOT!! The only thing the Salisbury Fire Department needs is to Quit the Outrageous Spending. This Fire Boat thing is absolutely so ridiculous. I received one of those envelopes in the mail to make a contribution - well needless to say you can guess what I did with it and if a fireman had been close enough I would have requested that they bend over so it could have been properly disposed of.

Anonymous said...

No!

Anonymous said...

Only if it comes with a Museum to put it in. It will never get "used" on a call, just like the present one is not used.

Anonymous said...

As a resident on the west side near the large tanks and Chesapeake Ship Builders my opinion is yes. For someone not living in the area they would probably say no.

Anonymous said...

No- has a cost matrix been done to address the maintenence and upkeep costs? is it really necessary?

Anonymous said...

NO!

Anonymous said...

NO! Hell no!

Anonymous said...

NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Anonymous said...

we need that like we need a hole in the head.

Anonymous said...

Nope, Not at all!

However, the boat could reduce the overall operating of SFD because they wouldn't have to pay as much to go fishing every year!

Anonymous said...

Hoppes' $7000/year estimate for upkeep, based on the figure for the boat they already have and don't take care of enough to keep it from sinking in its own slip, is a ruse. This is going to cost the taxpayers a lot more.
In ten years, it'll be a relic, and they'll want to replace it with something bigger and shinier.

Anonymous said...

I would like the SFD to identify all the possible structures that could be saved by this boat. Then we would really know what we are getting for our money.

Anonymous said...

Seems like a unanimous HELL NO!!!
Our opinion does not count though. No one listens.

Anonymous said...

You have to be kidding. They don't even utilize the resouses that they have from the current fireboat, to the old one, " USS Sinksalot"

Who will be certified to operate this vessel? US Coast Guard Licensed Captain Required??????

Anonymous said...

Certainly not. There is no stimulus in a boat built by a Canadian company. The fire department does not know when to stop. This is an extremely tough and endangered economy right now and they just keep on buying. I dont fault the firemen ,because I know Bill Gordy. He did the same thing in Delmar and nearly broke them. He's a businessman and he doesn't know what no means. Its not his money and as long as someone allows it, he will spend it. Fault the politians and the Fire Chief for allowing it. They have the ability to say no and have not done so. Ultimately you the taxpayer are footing the bill and your voice has fallen on deaf ears. Remember that at election time. Thats when the politians have to listen and you get the final decision.

Anonymous said...

No.....What the fire department needs is more ambulances on the street reducing the response times to people in a medical emergency not a fire boat that looks cool and will ultimately take money away from day to day operations.

Anonymous said...

No hell no!! The most unbelievable thing for me to hear was that we are the second largest port in MD. And????

Anonymous said...

I can't even figure out what it is intended for?
Is there somewhere the trucks can't reach?
I just learned yesterday that SFD has two different fire training climbing towers and can't use either one of them. There's the one we all see on Isabella and a newer one at the new fire house.
If they have to go to Princess Anne to train, why would we spend the money to build a second one that can't be used?
Only in SBY would we have expensive fire training facilities that can't be used because even the fire dept. isn't allowed to start a fire.
Can the new boat shoot a stream of water from the river right into the coucil chambers? -
That would make it worth it

If this is how you really feel why not send it to Jim Ireton? Demand he veto this resolution or suffer the consequences at the next election.

Voicing your opinion on the blog is fine. Sending your opinion to the decision makers will net results.

Don't want to send it to Ireton? Send it to Campbell and Cohen, ask them to forward your concerns. After all, THEY are your representatives. Sending your concerns to the other three will end up in the recycle file of their computers.

Anonymous said...

No what a waste and even if the ship yard or the fuel docks have a fire that boat isn't going to help a whole lot with a fire of that magnitude.

doug wilkerson said...

Jim doesnt care, havent you all figured that out yet. Hes a pathedic little man with not an ounce of backbone. What are your principles Jim, what do you stand for.

Anonymous said...

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO WAY

Anonymous said...

NO,,,,How many fires have we had near the water. Besides, the FD could pull water from the river if needed.

Anonymous said...

WTF for? that is stupid! The city needs to take that money & fix some of these roads!

Anonymous said...

NO !

Anonymous said...

Maybe it could be justified if Salisbury had a harbour the size of Baltimore or NYC or maybe even Annapolis. This is really beyond my comprehension as to why this is needed.

Anonymous said...

Can not imagine in a hundred years why they need a fire boat.

Anonymous said...

NO!

Write, call Ireton and tell him NO!

Does the fake resident of the westside think that little boat is going to put out an oil tank fire? Get real.

The person who said Hoppes's figures were a ruse was right! You could tell Cohen was ready to ask more and that damn Louweasel Smith cut off discussion in violation of the rules.

That woman needs to GO!

Anonymous said...

Yes, like the Titanic needed a hole in it.

Anonymous said...

Absolutely NOT.

Anonymous said...

No, not a priority

Anonymous said...

I feel like there are so many other things the city could spend this money on. That would be a benefit not and added upkeep expense

Anonymous said...

No No No No No No No No No No No No No No No No No NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO!

Anonymous said...

Let me see , we have one vote yes from the westside morons , but that was expected. Drink some more beer and chill westsiders.

Anonymous said...

Definately YES!!!!!!!!!!

Anonymous said...

Pardon my French HELL NO, what can't they get from land. Also the "City" limited don't go that far down the river...

Anonymous said...

No. If there is an oil tank fire they dont use water on it anyway do they? I wish someone would tell us just why they needed a boat.

Anonymous said...

what we really need is that money to go to the police department so they can clean up this stupid town.

Anonymous said...

NO WAY!

Anonymous said...

Salisbury had a Fire Boat back in the seventies. It was moored there behind the Banks Market which later became Shore Stop. Didn't use it and it was sold, So why bother with another one ?

Anonymous said...

NO, but i could use a new SEARAY !!!

Anonymous said...

not when spd is finding fully loaded, fully automatic, AK-47s, in cars at the Pemberton Apts!

mad granny said...

OH HELL NO!!!

Anonymous said...

do you think you would say that if you owe a business on the river?

yes we need it, it is not a need for all, but is needed

Anonymous said...

Only if they can prove that the maintenance on such a piece of equipment can be substantiated with in the budget contraints being currently experienced. -- Having owned a boat -- in other words NO! As one example, just ask them how much it costs to maintain the painted hull. That is just one item. If they keep this vessel in the same condition as the last one, it will be at the bottom of the Wicomico river by 2012.

Anonymous said...

Anonymous said...

Seems like a unanimous HELL NO!!!
Our opinion does not count though. No one listens.

9:18 AM

You're right, but my voice will be heard come election day. (WINK, WINK)

Anonymous said...

Not that anyone cares what we, the taxpayers of the City of Salisbury think....absolutely NO to ANY non-essential expenditures at this time.
AND, as one of the lucky ones who gets to pay county taxes as well as city....NO NEW PROJECTS for the county either.
Not that anyone cares what we think.

Anonymous said...

YES!

The new boat will have its own flush toilet and a cooler to maintain a decent supply of beer. It will save money by not having to pay Brew River's prices. At Christmas, we can decorate it with lights and sip on egg nog.

Not having a Coast Guard licensed Captain is not an issue because we will keep the old fireboat to tow the new one around the river. We can wait to get our water skis after we hire someone qualified to operate the boat.

Anonymous said...

i say yes if the new boat has a large pump. with a pump on it. the boat can supply water to the engines on the street. salisburys out dated water pipes and lack of water pressure is going to cause a major issue when this town has another big fire. i feel a boat is needed. i do not think they need a boat that large but a boat with a good pump and good deck gun is needed. check out NYFD two new fire boats they are the largest ever built.

My husband is out of work. We are living on my part time income. Our retirement account lost 30% of it's value and our home has been devalued. We have cut and cut and cut our spending. we are only spending on housing food and transportation. I know that we are not alone in this situation. Yet the SFD can buy a new boat that is hardly if ever used. Are they all brain dead over there. This kind of spending is just outrageous. Wake up!!!

Anonymous said...

Look back in the records and see how many times in the past there has been a need for the fire boat to respond.
END OF STORY

Anonymous said...

Anonymous said...

No.....What the fire department needs is more ambulances on the street reducing the response times to people in a medical emergency not a fire boat that looks cool and will ultimately take money away from day to day operations.

9:27 AM

If you remember correctly the 3 new ambulances were struck from the budget so they could get their 5 new fire trucks. The ambulance service is not a priority for the acting chief and the volunteer deputy chief so the real need for saving lives is ignored. Maybe it's time for the ambulance to be separated from the fire department.

Anonymous said...

What better way is there to spend the citizens of Salisbury's money. I think it's a great idea. It will provide the firemen with the ability to get some much desserved recreation. they can relax and do some fishing and skiing. who cares if they can't drive the new truck around town, remember ther are no traffic signs to hit on the water. go get um. enjoy your new toy. thank you city council.

Anonymous said...

would you say no if you had a business on the river?

It is a good thing for the city, it may not be good for all, but it is needed

Anonymous said...

Anonymous said...

Definately YES!!!!!!!!!!

11:21 AM

Can you please tell us why you said definitely yes? You must be one of the little d!ck farmin that fooled the mayor.

Anonymous said...

Mr. Albero, I would love to say no but you have to remember we are talking about Poop River here. With the biological decomposition of millions of pounds of turds released from the WWTP produces some extremely volatile a$$ gas. You know what happens when you strike a match next to your bottom and pass wind. You get a massive explosion so I guess the new fire boat will be needed for Bubba's Poop River.

joealbero said...

anonymous 12:57, while I cannot disagree completely with your sincere concern, I'm compelled to argue the point that water cannot extinguish such fires. Therefore a Fire Boat won't cut it anyway, respectfully.

Anonymous said...

fire boat also can spray chemicals need to put out those fires

Anonymous said...

Absolutely YES

Anonymous said...

It is like a lot of other things i.e. the government doesn't know the difference between NEEDS and WANTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Anonymous said...

no

Anonymous said...

That million dollar fire boat has only a 70 gallon foam tank. That's not enough foam to put out a small craft fire.

That fire boat has infrared night vision. WHY? To watch dope deals going down at Brew River?

That fire boat has technology to detect IED's and WMD's. WHY? Is someone going to blow up Brew River?

So the city is spending nearly a million dollars to protect Brew River? I'm sure Frank Hanna has plenty of insurance and would rather let the place burn to the ground.

Anonymous said...

there are planty of other businesses on the river retard, how do you know what 70 gallons will put out. you have know clue what you are talking about

Anonymous said...

yes and a blimp and a ferris wheel and a pony ride oh wait thats us

Anonymous said...

NOPE!!!!!!!!

cass said...

It is a good idea only if the pilot remembers there are NO brakes on boats!

Anonymous said...

yeah of course, and get the baywatch crew too, trust me we need this. these are some stupid men for you. we need police, idiots.

Anonymous said...

Not now. common sense says that if anyone was listening the bridge will have to be opened to use it, that in itself is reason not now...
the budgetary issues, yes it was grant money, however, I thinki grant money was not boat specific, intelligent people would have done much better with the $800,000.00 of taxpayers money. It is sad that we have spoiled children in office, spoiled children running our fire department, and spoiled children making decisions with our money. as any kid which is more imporant shiny hubcaps or lunch money.

Anonymous said...

Im sure there are plenty of other businesses on the river. Please tell me which of those businesses you can not reach using a fire truck.

Anonymous said...
