STIMULUS SERMON Gen 47:13-27

This should be required reading for every American.. Spread this word.....

Pastor of this predominantly black church in Virginia is obviously a leader and not one of the sheep. Perhaps we should each decide who our real leader is………….It is amazing to see that very little has changed in 4,000 years.

RECENT VIRGINIA CHURCH SERVICE -STIMULUS SERMON Gen 47:13-27

Good morning, brothers and sisters; it's always a delight to see the pews crowded on Sunday morning, and so eager to ge t into God's Word.. Turn with me in your Bibles, if you will to the 47th chapter of Genesis, we'll begin our reading at verse 13, and go through verse 27. Brother Ray, would you stand and read that great passage for us?
....(reading)....
Thank you for that fine reading, Brother Ray... So we see that economic hard times fell upon Egypt , and the people turned to the government of Pharaoh to deal with this for them. And Pharaoh nationalized the grain harvest, and placed the grain in great storehouses that he had built. So the people brought their money to Pharaoh, like a great tax increase, and gave it all to him willingly in return for grain. And this went on until their money ran out, and they were hungry again.

So when they went to Pharaoh after that, they brought their livestock -their cattle, their horses, their sheep, and their donkey - to barter for grain, and verse 17 says that only took them through the end of that year.. But the famine wasn't over, was it?

So the next year, the people came before Pharaoh and admitted they had nothing left, except their land and their own lives. "There is nothing left in the sight of my lord but our bodies and our land. Why should we die before your eyes, both we and our land? Buy us and our land for food, and we with our land will be servants to Pharaoh." So they surrendered their homes, their land, and their real estate to Pharaoh's government, and then sold themselves into slavery to him,in return for gr ain. What can we learn from this, brothers and sisters?

That turning to the government instead of to God to be our provider in hard times only leads to slavery? Yes.. That the only reason government wants to be our provider is to also become our master? Yes. But look how that passage ends, brothers and sisters! Thus Israel settled in the land of Egypt , in the land of Goshen . And they gained possessions in it, and were fruitful and multiplied greatly." God provided for His people, just as always has! They didn't end up giving all their possessions to government, no, it says they gained possessions! But I also tell you a great truth today, and an ominous one. We see the same thing happening today - the government today wants to "share the wealth "once again, to take it from us and redistribute it back to us. It wants to take control of healthcare, just as it has taken control of education, and ration it back to us, and when government rations it, then government decides who gets it, and how much, and what
kind. And if we go along with it, and do it willingly, then we will wind up no differently than the people of Egypt did four thousand years ago - as slaves to the government, and as slaves to our leaders.

What Mr. Obama's government is doing now is no different from what Pharaoh's government did then, and it will end the same. And a lot of people like to call Mr. Obama a "Messiah," don't they? Is he a Messiah? A savior ? Didn't the Egyptians say, after Pharaoh made them his slaves, "You have saved our lives; may it please my lord, we will be servants to Pharaoh"?

Well, I tell you this - I know the Messiah; the Messiah is a friend of mine; and Mr. Obama is no Messiah! No, brothers and sisters, if Mr. Obama is a character from the Bible, then he is Pharaoh.

Bow with me in prayer, Lord, You alone are worthy to be served, and we rely on You, and You alone. We confess that the government is not our deliverer, and never rightly will be. We read in the eighth chapter of 1 Samuel, when Samuel warned the people of what a ruler would do, where it says "And in that day you will cry out because of your king, whom you have chosen for yourselves, but the LORD will not answer you in that day." And Lord, we acknowledge that day has come. We cry out to you because of the ruler that we have chosen for ourselves as a nation.. Lord, we pray for this nation. We pray for revival, and we pray for deliverance from those who would be our masters. Give us hearts to seek You and hands to serve You, and protect Your people from the atrocities of Pharaoh's government.

#1 don't try to force YOUR interpretation of scripture into governance, it may not mesh with mine.

#2 this whole premise of "libs wants to run your life" is just as stupid as "rep want poor people to die". Both sides of the aisle need to stop all of the childish fearmongering and debate the issues based on their view of whats best for the nation's security, finances, and overall well-being. They can't get to the crux of the issue because they would rather scream the aforementioned slogans at each other

Genesis 35:3

"Then come, let us go up to Bethel, where I will build an altar to God, who answered me in the day of my distress and who has been with me wherever I have gone.

i right in lower-cased letters for all to read and know that this message is being said (typed) with a calm attitude. my comment is for 9:30 and 10:17. you have all right to say what you want, but my part is to just tell you about Jesus. you know introduce you to him (because trust me he knows you well). 9:30 you display exactly what this article is exactly about (and i'm not trying to educate you about yourself). it seems as if you are angry and are waiting for the dems. or reps. or libs. or conservs. etc. to change so that you can change. forgive me if i'm wrong but why is that? they are human just like we, they put pants on just like we, so what makes you think if they get themselves together they are going to supply you? they've gotten to where they want to be and are comfortable. a preacher said in his sermon that no man born on earth will do anything for you on their own. but it takes the voice of GOD for them to move. to move with kindness for his/her fellow man. nothing on earth is unseen by the lord. he wakes up everyone from atheist to christian. he watches the just and the unjust. he loves. and i would rather have someone on my side with the ability to do all but fail and that loves me as one then to wait for my fellow man who is on earth with me to "fix" things. i believe that GOD is working on something no one will be prepared for, (i'm not fearmongering but that shouldn't be a question in your head if you feel as if you have been on the right course in life) that is why thing are the way they are. he's working for a real, honest change. i will stop there because i could go on forever. have a glorious day hug someone and tell them you love them okay.

10:17
good afternoon. i just want to say that it says in the book of revelations after some of the plagues from GOD's wrath are released there will be people who still won't acknowledge GOD for the true living GOD. i pray you won't become one. open your eyes and relize that the bible has been around for milleniums not centuries or decades and is still the most popular book to date in the world. research the bible (if you feel that it is worthy of touching your skin) and actually see if anything in the bible still exists. try it. it will be fun. i just want you to get to know GOD and his son Jesus Christ while you have breath. you don't have to rush into anything or anything like that. just call his name until you feel his presence. trust you'll feel it. don't be afraid to expirement. GOD's love.

1:10, get off your high horse. I follow Christ. I also know that people in the same congregation, let alone different denominations, disagree about Bible verse and context. I don't want someone legislating laws based solely on what THEY interpret a scripture to mean.

And I don't wait for anybody to provide for me. Gov.'s job is to protect it's citizens from foreign threats and maintain an environment conducive to prosperity. Thats it. Thats why we joined into small bands, then to tribes, then to nations, for those two reasons. If you think that decision was against God's will, then how about you go find a mountaintop to live on, fend for yourself, don't take advantage of the goods/services brought to you by our collective hard work, and when our enemies attack, we'll show them to your front door.

Anon 1:10 I wrote 10:17 comment and appreciate the lengthy response. Believe it or not I happen to be a Christian and a Democrat. I am very familiar with the book of Revelation.
What I cannot stand is when religion and religious rhetoric are being shoved down my throat.
What I hate even more is when political activists Dem or Rep justify their actions based on the Scripture. Republicans just happen to do it more often and it some times it alarmingly reminds me of Islamic extremism, only the Book is different.
So again, I appreciate the response, and do believe that you are genuine, but please understand that freedom of religion also means freedom FROM relegion. This is especially true when it comes to politics.

Thank you

1:40 and if it was meant for me to be on a mountain top by myself then i would be their. but trust GOD won't put you through anything you can't handle. he's a loving god. so if "your enemies" came to "my front door", whether shaken up or ready for battle GOD has me. He said, "Be still and know that I am GOD"(I fear only him so kill your noise). i'm not on a high horse, and i don't understand that when people talk about Christ or the bible others feel as if the person speaking of these things are better than them. i mean c'mon i'm not talking about a novel or people magazine i'm talking about GOD's word, so it may sound like i'm on a "high-horse" that's because we are talking about GOD and his work. it will have an effect on everyone. you can't talk about GOD as if you and your friends were recapping a show or sports event from the night before. His power makes you speak like that.

you say the government this and the goverment that but who created the people in the Gov't? who spoke into their hearts and minds what their destiny was to be before childbirth? who provided the things neccesary to obtain their position and to be able to supply people (like yourself) with jobs and protection? George Washington and the Constitution? before them there was HE.

and if you and your members disagree with the bible that's all fine because that's a process of learning, but if you feel as if it is wrong and it doesn't apply to you then your wrong. His word is final.

You're so busy listening to yourself speak, you are not paying attention to what either of us has said. "High horse" refers to the fact that you think my comments show that YOU have a superior relationship with God than myself, simply because we disagree. And you usually find that people like you are full of $h!t, which is why they have to pray louder, praise louder, and wear the biggest cross they can find.

Anonymous said...

as for this high horse stuff. you felt that way. i never claimed that i was better nor were my comments going into that direction. i don't know if the things that i said made you uncomfortable but hey that's on you. i kick it straight up regardless if it's what you want to hear or if i took the words right out of your mouth. i have no cross around my neck i pray in my head and i praise by myself. i have no clue if that is how fake followers do around you but i was taught to be myself with the Lord despite what i have done. besides you can't put a front on for him he knows who's real and who's fake. so again kill the noise. i'm not worried about the "high horse stuff. that's not even what this post was about. why is your main focus this high horse stuff?

The point of the post was that a black preacher was stating this to his congregation. Not all blacks believe Obama is the messiah and if you remember the saying about history repeating itself, well the Jews did become Pharoah's slaves and Pharoah is being compared to Obama. That's it. It's not about preaching, it's not about one worshipper being better than others. The message is there for you all to see. Let it be what it is and stop the spin...

Nice....I see the sheeple are beginning awaken and see their "messiah" as the piece of crap that he really is.

I just hope it will not be too late for this country.

I think Christians need to go to their Bible and read the Scripture given. This "sermon" fails to recognize many things in an attempt to prove the point the "Pastor" wanted to make. The first thing being it was God who told Joseph how to store up the grain to survive the years of the famine, not the Pharoah who implemented it. All the Pharoah did was tell Joseph to do what God had told him to do. Second, there were MANY MANY MANY years between the end of the famine and when the Israelites were taken into captivity, and it was a different Pharoah ENTIRELY. And the Israelites were not taken into captivity because of their actions during the famine, as this "sermon" states. The Israelites were taken into captivity because the Egyptians saw that their numbers had increased exponentially and were afraid the Israelites would overthrow their government and take over.

Comment to Shannon at 10:59 PM: Perhaps YOUR expertise in criticizing the "pastor" is highly questionable. There is in fact much disagreement by scholars over the number of years. One passage says "shall afflict them 400 years." Gen. 15:13. Some contend the entire period was 430 years and half that time was actual bondage. You strain at a gnat and swallow a camel. Regardless of how much grain Joseph stored (for 7 years famine) it certainly did not last 430 years or even 215!

nterestingly, it was Bush and his cronies who started this bail out stuff, so I wonder if it should be Bush's name in the sermon, instead of Obama's? So, what should the government do? Should it continue to allow the CEOs of the insurance company conglomerates to earn 140,000 per day while they continue to deny benefits to people who have paid their premiums year after year after year? That seems more pharonic than what Obama is doing as he tries to bring the wild, unpresidented "earnings" under control so that we, who used to be the middle class, have a chance to be middle class again without being slaves to the corporations. The proposed tax on the top 2/10ths of earners in this country (ones who make millions of $$ a year and are now protected by loopholes from paying little if any income tax) would allow the people who are now hurting the most to have that tax break and to bring health care, for instance, to the millions who don't have it and to the millions who are gouged with high premiums and even denied benefits when they need them after paying those high, gouging premiums year after year) Did you know the insurance companies have no federal regulations on them? Did you know that insurance companies are exempt from antitrust laws that prohibit price-fixing? Obama, through the dems in congress, is working to remove that exemption...I think that is not the pharaohnic Obama the pastor is preaching about? I also think it looks like Obama is NOT collecting tax from the ordinary people (as did the pharaoh) to pay for bringing this country out of this depression. I think it looks more like Obama is working towards taxing the very people who have brought this economy to the brink of destruction by taxing THEM to bring us out of what THEY created through their greed and disregard for the United States and we the people who reside here and are citizens of this country.

Of course you know that the Bush bailout was put forward first that there be NO oversite by congress or the courts etc. That was stopped by the democrats, but did you know that there were no provisions in that bail out language that kept the CEOs and other high level employees from continuing to recieve MEGA bonuses and billion dollar salaries? Did you know that Obama is working to reduce ALL bail out recipients CEOs and high level employess bonuses AND reduce their salaries by 90% until they have paid back all they owe to the people (government) I also believe the Egyptian government was NOT "of the people, by the people and for the people." I also believe that if sermons such as this were also to have called the Bush's on the carpet when taxes for the very rich were reduced, thereby putting the burden of taxation on the, now-eliminated "middle class", it may have been considered by me to be a non-partisan sermon. I believe that if sermons such as this would have been given when Regan decided that "trickle-down" would work by giving the very rich enormous tax cuts, I would have considered that to have been serving the truth. However, I also believe that it is sermons like this that endanger the churches right to be separate from government. If the churches continue to insert themselves in politics as leading their people towards particular party affiliations, they will sooner or later be declared unprotected by the law of separation of church and state. It is not that individuals in a church cannot have political views and speak of them, but it is not legal under the separation of church and state for church heads to lead their flocks in political matters. I know the arguement that the separation between church and state is that government will not interfere with church. But at the same time, it is not for the churches to preach politics from the pulpit. If this is to be a country that follows the constitution, then it must also be acknowledged that this is an elected President, not a monarchy as was the Pharaoship of Egypt. I think this preacher and his sermon completely miss the mark. He is comparing apples to oranges.

Pretty sure this did not happen. Give us a church & pastor name. This is not a sermon, it's a 3-5 minute political screed that abuses scripture.

Have you been to a "mostly black church"? If so, you'd know that sermons in "mostly black churches" go a little longer than this.

Also, if the agrarian reform in the story is being compared to Obama's (non-existent) tax reforms, then that makes Obama analogous to Joseph, not Pharoah. (Pharoah didn't do squat in this story.) No black preacher would make this mistake - black preaching is historically very precise in linguistics and symbolism. This is playing fast and loose with the text - something a liberal church (like mine) might do.

Finally, have you ever heard anyone refer to Obama as the Messiah? I haven't, and I hang with a lot of pro-Obama liberals. I've only heard conservatives say that liberals think of Obama as the Messiah. I find it interesting that liberals are accused of both atheism _and_ idolatry (claiming Obama as the Messiah). Get the story straight, please - one or the other.

There are so many ways that reasonable people can disagree on national issues, but misusing scripture and spreading lies about sermons that didn't happen is really scraping the bottom of the ideological barrel. You should be ashamed.
