PRMC Prepares For H1N1 Swine Flu Pandemic?

I'm not sure if it's a reaction due to all the high alerts regarding the Swine flu, a need to get up to a certain federally mandated level of precautions, or if there is an out break here on the shore, but I do know 2 things:

The hospital was looking to buy ventilators today, and they bought all they could find, and the manufacturer is virtually sold of this same product, all across the county.

This is the hot item:

Disposable Particulate Respirator, Filter Class N95, Color Green, Size Universal, Nose Clip, Face Seal, Headstrap Type Two-Strap, Protects Against Exposure To Airborne Germs During Public Health Medical Emergencies, Meets/Exceeds NIOSH 42 CFR 84 Requirements, NIOSH Approval TC-84A-4526, Package Quantity 20. Note: This product is approved for use by the General Public for public health medical emergencies but not approved for specific occupational uses.

I know of someone who went to the ER with flu symptoms on Tuesday nignt & they were told all that could be done was an IV & go home. No testing was done to check if it was N1H1. They didn't have ALL the symptoms of N1H1. Announced all over, that if you have flu symptoms to get checked out. Go figure!!

Someone advised me that they aren't actually testing to see if it is the swine flu anymore- due to the potential for high demand. I don't know if that's accurate or not, haven't had time to catch the news these past few days. But maybe that's why the person mentioned in PP wasn't tested.

somebody went to the ER with flu symptoms?? Don't you have a regular doctor? If not, go to an urgent care clinic. Stuff like that is why health care costs are out of control.

Their primary care doctor told them to go. It was way past office hours. BTW, they have insurance, too.

they may have insurance but the insurance still pays out more which makes premiums higher for everyone.

I just love how people can't simply look further down the line to see how things cost them money. They can't see the forest for the trees.

THIS is another part of what's wrong with society today! Take the blinders off so you can SEE!!!

Our daughter is an Emergency Dept doctor in Ohio. She told us that the ER is swamped with people who are paranoid about the swine flu. They've seen zero cases so far. But the amount of hypochondriacs thinking they have it are wasting a lot of time that should be used to treat valid illnesses.

PRMC makes these types of masks available at the entrances to the hospital all year.

It is beyond me where you get your information, but PRMC did NOT buy all the ventilators that a company had...completely false...they may have some standing by for rent...but do you even realize what a ventilator costs? PRMC is not dumb enough to go buy a large quantity of ventilators that may only be needed for a couple months.

Theses types of ventilators only cost $15 for a box of 20. So, not sure what your thinking of 12:10.
