On September 14, 2009 we provided this story, Daily Times, (Gannett) Fabricates Story To Sell Papers & Oust Public Official.
In today's Daily Times, Liz Holland twists her article several times once again to make it sound as if Frank White did something wrong. At least Salisbury News in the above article provided documents PROVING they had mislead the public and owed Frank an apology. Clearly, (after seeing today's article) that's not going to happen.
The DT's made the following statement. "White -- who has been absent from town meetings for the past month -- attended Monday night's meeting, but made no comment." OK, let's start with this. Frank White missed ONE meeting that month and guess what, there are only two meetings per month. Now, what Liz doesn't tell you is, Frank White has missed THREE meetings in TEN YEARS. One of those meetings was when his Father passed away. Come on Liz, grow up and stop this vendetta.
The title of their article states the following. "Princess Anne commissioners vote to cancel Frank White's credit card." OK, look, Frank White is the one who suggested the credit card be taken out of his name because of all the controversy brought forth by the Daily Times. The meeting and decision made at this meeting was simply to formalize the offer and get it on the record. Since Brenda Benton is now the Town Manager, Frank doesn't need the card any more. Oh, how convenient not to mention that fact as well.
But here's the real kicker Folks. So why is the Daily Times all over Frank White? Salisbury News has that answer. You see, the Daily Times is very upset because the Town of Princess Anne learned that they no longer have to use the Daily Times to post legal ads. In fact, the Somerset Herald is NOT a legal Newspaper, according to the State. It's a FREE paper, because no one would buy it anyway. So while the Daily Times billed Princess Anne $7,823.35 last year for legal ads that did NOT have to run in that paper, the Daily Times also billed Princess Anne an additional $11,116.26 last year for legal ads to boot. The total billed was $18,939.61 in all and once Brenda and Frank realized that they could advertise in the Crisfield Times, the same ads will now cost the Town of Princess Anne $3,161.00 TOTAL! I'd say the Town Commissioners and the Town Manager made a fiscally responsible decision to take their business elsewhere, wouldn't you.
So why are the Daily Times trying to crucify Frank White, because they're about to lose yet another large chunk of income from another municipality and the pressure is now on. This is one reason why I hate the thought of charging for advertising on Salisbury News. The MSM can rag on Blogs all day long but one thing is for sure, we don't pull this kind of crap.
The only bit of truth and non misleading information in their article was at the bottom. "At the request of a citizens group, town attorney Mark Tilghman investigated the matter, and last month released a report finding the complaint of possible misuse of a town credit card was unfounded."
Like Frank White or not, every single charge on his credit card was accounted for. The Daily Times continued to throw out very high numbers charged to his card, yet they again refused to mention that ALL of their Maryland Municipal Dues were paid for on his card for ALL of their Council Members. That one charge alone was over $4,000.00. Again, we provided ALL of the documents above in our previous article. ALL of the remodeling to the Town Offices were charged on that card. ALL of the Office Supplies were charged on that card.
All in all, the Daily Times attempted to smear Frank White and they failed. Well, perhaps to their own readers they may have won because they never offered full details of their being wrong and inaccurate. However, their audience has been dwindling and Salisbury News has been growing. Mind you, we know there are thousands of people who do not access the Internet but let me assure you of one thing, they know about us and they're hearing there's another side to the story. On the other hand, we also know they have lost many thousands of daily subscribers and the ones buying their paper today more than likely have Internet access and simply read both.
So in my opinion, the Daily Times is after Frank White because they want him OUT and they want someone else to replace him so they can get their advertising money back. What they forget is the fact that Frank White was re elected by a HUGE margin and has served the Town of Princess Anne for 10+ years now. Most of that time he earned something like $1,200.00 a year!
Just one more reason to dump your subscription to a bias newspaper who refuses to offer all of the facts.

You're taking ANY issue, right or wrong, and turning it into a rant against the Daily Times. The credit card issue was a public interest issue, and certainly "looked" fishy with all those meals charged up on the card.
Rather than looking like an objective view of an issue, YOU certainly come off as a very biased person on the issues (Daily Times is YOUR competitor) and it shows greatly in your rants. Your rant is not a defense of Frank White (your alleged friend), it is a rant AGAINST the Daily Times.
It's your blog and you're obviously making some money on it. No different than the Daily Times.
Don't get pissed, I'll still be checking out what you have to say. I just wish you could be a little more objective, and not so obviously (key word "obviously") biased towards your self interests.

Did THEY do their "fact checking" before they wrote their original article, NO! They published a smear article and unlike a Blog where we're opinionated, they have a far greater responsibility to fact check and they know this to be a fact.
As for my making money on Salisbury News, I have never made a single penny after 4.5 years of doing this.
Keep applying the lipstick the DT pig cause that papers sucks no honest investigative reporting going on there just a mouth piece for the Good old boys club..they provide no solutions, truth or support for the americain way that I can see..this blog just re enforces what we all know to be true it is a lousy newspaper with no spine, nads, or compentent editors
When I asked you earlier in the week if you would post my Dad's obituary, you said yes and asked if you could do anything for me. You never asked for a dime to post it. If I had gone to the DT's I would of had to pay for it. I've never understood why the DT's charges for this. I know it takes up space on the page but it's not like a business advertisement. Maybe someone can explain it.

It may have LOOKED fishy, but he was CLEARED! For them to keep making the assertion that there were allegations without FIRST making sure it's known that they were UNFOUNDED is nothing but a SMEAR!
I do not know Frank White, never met him. But right is right, and the DT is WRONG, WRONG, WRONG for smearing ANYONE this way!

Did you know that Frank White was a Daily Times paper boy when he was growing up in Snow Hill? Was known for being friendly, especially toward the elderly.You could say it helped him in his political life. Now they are after him. Life is full of ironies.
I've known Frank for 16 years starting back when Sheriff "Danny" did a hack job on him when Frank was the Chief of Police of Pocomoke, City. This was in retribution for Frank supporting Chuck Martin, who won the election for sheriff chasing Danny out of office. This happened shortly after the election and before Danny was out of office. The DT was painting Frank as the bad guy then and has never let up. The Fish Wrap Times is doomed, and they've done it to themselves.
