Driver Still Trapped Inside Tractor Trailer

The driver of the Eagle Tractor Trailer is still trapped inside the cab as the Rescue Crew is afraid to cut him out because of the gas fumes.

We're told they can only reach his leg at this point but he's trapped inside pretty good. Rt. 13 is still closed and will be for the next 8 hours.

Salisbury News was the first to break the news of this accident at 7:13 AM this morning.

We'll post photos as soon as they become available.

Oh man. What torture.

The theory/assumption right now, is that the driver possibly had a stroke or heart attack which is what caused the trailor to have an accident. God bless him and his family, as well as the workers trying to keep everyone else safe while rescuing him from the truck!

anonymous 12:04, or shall I say, JT. Perhaps you should try reading the articles to better understand them better.

The driver was pronounced dead at PRMC. That's a standard formality. Officials from the scene informed Salisbury News that the driver had died early this morning. They could not access the driver, with exception of his leg. Once he was removed they knew what they had.

Does it bother you that much that I was not only right but that I was the very first to break the news. If YOU were traveling anywhere North or South on RT 13 this morning, the ONLY way you would have known there was an issue is through Salisbury News. This is exactly why tens of thousands of people per day rely on us. The DT's was a good hour behind us and more than likely people were already in their vehicles and on their way into work.

Your tax dollars at work. The Salisbury Fire Department sent Assistant Chief 1, Rescue 1, Engine 16-1 and Paramedic 1 to that call. There are 3 paramedic ambulances on the scene and they don't even have a patient to treat on this call. WTF! The call is not in Salisbury, not in Wicomico County but in Somerset County. How in the world can Hoppes and Gordy justify sending all that equipment and man power to Somerset county at the expense of city tax payers. Now the paid duty crew with Engine 1 is responding to Station 3 to stand by for their volunteers. How much is that equipment, overtime and other expenses going to cost the city of Salisbury Taxpayers. This is also costing Wicomico County Taxpayers as they paying the Salisbury Fire Department thousands of dollars a year. The citizens will not be reimbursed or compensated for this waste. Hoppes and Gordy is out of control!! Jim Ireton where is that help you promised? Can the mayor and city council justify this wasted spending by the insubordination by Hoppes and Gordy? Now the city tax payers aren't being protected by the firefighters that are paid to protect them.

Help Is On the Way! NOT!!

JT or anon 12:04 the paramedic from Fruitland on the scene assessed the patient and told incoming units that the patient was dead.

You know who cares who sent what crap where. You guys missed the point. Bottom line is a family from the Eastern Shore is mourning the unexpected and tragic loss of a family member. If that had been your family member, you would have wanted 1,000 pieces of equipment there if it meant there was an opportunity to rescue and save him. We are praying for the family at this most tragic time.

anonymous 1:07, while I agree with much of wehat you stated, to many others, (which you have to respect as well) is their delay to and from their destinations.

I'm confident many feel very sorry for this man's Family, they're also concerned with their daily lives. Their interest peaked wanting to know why it was so difficult to get to and from this morning.

May this man rest in peace throughout eternity.

12:19 -- If you're so good at figuring out what apparatus to send to an emergency why don't you join the FD?

An overturned gasoline tanker is a MAJOR emergency and has potential to be a very large event. With that potential to do harm, you send all that is necessary in case something happens. You don't wait for it to catch fire before sending resources, you send the resources in case it catches fire.

D'oh. What if it had caught fire, exploded, and injured dozens of people? Would you be complaining about Salisbury ambulances going then?

If you want to decide what gets sent, join the FD and get trained. Jim Ireton knows this and that's why he lets the FD do the job they're trained to do.

No, I don't believe Jim Liarton knows this, he just believes what the FD tells him, whether it be right or wrong. All I want for Christmas is a New M a y o r.

Salisbury units were dispatched to provide Foam for potental fire hazards & assist with the technical rescue.

you did great until you brought up Jim.

Speaking of "Jim's"...the Rat should be complimented for the way he handled that call yesterday. When he got there, there was chaos and he took a tough situation and calmed it down, figured out the priorities, and then addressed them in a calm manner under some pretty hard circumstances. Like him or not, he's good at what he does.
Good job to Jimmy and ALL the members of all the departments for not letting anything worse happen and for treating the driver with respect.
Like one person said, you wouldnt care where the stuff was coming from if it were YOUR family member involved. AND...we go because we're called/dispatched to go!! Other departments would come to our aid if we called for them. It's called "mutual aid" and it happens in EVERY fire district across the country because there arent enough firefighters/hazardous materials techs/paramedics anywhere! The fact that mutual aid exists actually SAVES ALL OF US money because it uses resources from all over only when necessary versus "paying" for additional resources. It's part of the system and it works well so shut up or educate yourself before making stupid comments.

3:44, I brought up Jim Ireton in response to this comment, "Can the mayor and city council justify this wasted spending by the insubordination by Hoppes and Gordy? Now the city tax payers aren't being protected by the firefighters that are paid to protect them."
