Sen. Ben Cardin (D-Md.) has introduced S. 673, the so-called "Newspaper Revitalization Act," that would give outlets tax deals if they were to restructure as 501(c)(3) corporations. That bill has so far attracted one cosponsor, Cardin's Maryland colleague Sen. Barbara Mikulski (D).

Well, the Daily TImes wouldn't qualify sinc ethey can't keep their nose out of taking political sides. Do all Gannet publications function like that or is this just one bad egg that htey need to bring into check?
What a waste. The only thing a newspaper is good for is covering the table to eat crabs on.
Being "open to it" or "be happy to look" is far from giving support to the proposal
I personally love to read the paper daily, but since moving to the shore 8yrs ago - still read the Post. The Daily Times is absolutely worthless. The internet will never have the same feel as sitting down with the newspaper and a cup of Joe in the morning!!! As long as we are not talking about another taxpayer bailout I would love to see the industry survive.

10:52, your theory is mighty convenient considering your obvious conservative slant. Maybe the demise of the papers is due to the advant of free internet news sources, multiple 24-hour cable news feeds, and overall decreases in demand that don't have anything to do with politics.

With rosewood paneling in the lobby, and every kind of expense imaginable to eat up all the 'profits'.
