FORMER TROOPER CHARGED WITH SEXUAL ASSAULT

(Rockville, MD) – A former Maryland state trooper was arrested and charged last night in connection with the sexual assault of a woman he arrested during a traffic stop in Montgomery County last year.

Marlon E. Iglesias, 42, of Montgomery County, Md., was arrested last night at his home by Maryland State Police criminal investigators. He was charged on a warrant with three counts of third degree sexual offense, two counts of fourth degree sexual offense, and one count of second degree assault. Iglesias was taken to the Montgomery County Detention Center where he was held until he posted a $30,000 bond.

The victim is not being identified. The Maryland State Police does not publicly identify victims of sexual offenses.

In late May 2009, the victim disclosed to Maryland State Police investigators that in July 2008, while driving on I-270, she was arrested by a state trooper, later identified as then Trooper First Class Marlon Iglesias. She said she was handcuffed, and put in the front seat of the patrol car.

The victim said while driving to the Rockville Barracks, Iglesias squeezed her thigh. While at the barracks, the victim said Iglesias fondled and kissed her and committed other sexual assaults.

Maryland State Police investigators pursued the investigation and learned the victim had been stopped by an officer from the Montgomery County Police for following too close and suspicion of driving under the influence on southbound I-270 near I-370. Iglesias stopped to back up the county officer. The officer turned the traffic stop over to Iglesias for further investigation. Iglesias arrested the woman for driving under the influence.

State Police investigators presented evidence to the Montgomery County State’s Attorney’s Office. After a review of the evidence, prosecutors determined charges should be filed against Iglesias.

Iglesias joined the Maryland State Police in 1994 and was assigned to road patrol duties at the Rockville Barracks. In January 2009, his police powers were suspended due to a personnel issue. He resigned from the Maryland State Police in April of this year.

well i dont know where to start with the state police.its so hard to get hired there and they pass up very good applicants for ones who can pass the polygraph on the first try or who know someone else who works there.its been proven that mentally ill people do very well on the polygraph tests and that a normal person with a good background has a better chance of failing it on the first try.they really need to step back and readdress the hiring process and who they hire.a good friend of mine has a college degree military and he worked in law enforcement for five years before he applied to msp.he finished the process and they told him no thanks and by the way dont bother applying again that was their lose and his gain he is a great guy and is a great cop shortly after msp rejected him he got a federal law enforcement job making three times as much as a maryland state trooper.moral of the story they turned him down but four troopers have been arrested in the past three years for child molestation, child porn, kidnapping, and now this latest one.so the msp slapped themselves in the face.
