Theodore Roosevelt on Immigration

The year is 1907, one hundred and 2 years ago.

Theodore Roosevelt's ideas on Immigrants and being an AMERICAN in 1907.
'In the first place, we should insist that if the immigrant who comes here in good faith becomes an American and assimilates himself to us, he shall be treated on an exact equality with everyone else, for it is an outrage to discriminate against any such man because of creed, or birthplace, or origin. But this is predicated upon the person's becoming in every facet an American, and nothing but an American...There can be no divided allegiance here. Any man who says he is an American, but something else also, isn't an American at all. We have room for but one flag, the American flag... We have room for but one language here, and that is the English language. And we have room for but one sole loyalty and that is a loyalty to the American people.'

Bully!
For those not familiar with one of our nation's great Presidents, "Bully" was an expression often attributed to Teddy Rosavelt and was considered common parlance at the time. Whether or not he was the first to use the term,it indicated its user's agreement with, taking a liking for an issue or statement at hand, something like the British slang, "Good Show".

Amen to that. It irritates the heck out of me when I make a phone call and get a menu that starts off with, "For English, press one."

WHY??!! Isn't this America, where we speak English?

Unless you are an Indian, we all came from the Old Country. American is merely an idea, not an ethnicity.

This says it all and says it well.

According to this Obama is not an American at all. Because he says he is an American but something else also. And he is not loyal to America or the American people.
