National Night Out In Salisbury

DOVERDALE PARK – SALISBURY, MARYLAND

On Tuesday, August the 4th
, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. neighborhoods throughout Salisbury are being invited to join forces with thousands of communities nationwide for the “26th Annual National Night Out” (NNO) crime and drug prevention event. National Night Out, which is sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch (NATW) and co-sponsored locally by the City of Salisbury, will involve over 15,000 communities from all 50 states, U.S. territories, Canadian cities and military bases around the world. In all, over 37 million people are expected to participate in ‘America’s Night Out Against Crime’. NNO 2009 is being supported in part by TARGET, the national corporate sponsor.

National Night Out is designed to: (1) Heighten crime and drug prevention awareness; (2) Generate support for, and participate in, local anticrime effort; (3) Strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships; and (4) Send a message to criminals letting them know neighborhoods are organized and are fighting back.
From 6 to 10 p.m. on August 4th, residents in Salisbury and across the nation are asked to lock their doors, turn on outside lights and spend the evening outside with neighbors and police.

National Project Coordinator Matt Peskin said, “ This is a night for America to stand together to promote awareness, safety and neighborhood unity. National Night Out showcases the vital importance of police-community partnership and citizen involvement in out fight to build a safer nation. On August 4th, we invite neighborhoods nationwide to join us in Giving Crime & Drug A Going Away Party.

This event will provide access to city and county officials, provide information from various community organizations and entertainment for all ages!

Information/Activities provided by American Red Cross, Salisbury Promise, Wicomico County Health Department Center for Clean Start, PRMC – Wagner Wellness Van, Salisbury Police Department, Salisbury Fire Department, Wicomico County Sherriff’s Office, and Neighborhood Services and Code Compliance, just to name a few. COME OUT AND ENJOY THE EVENING !

We should see everyone on their best behavior on this night. If you can get someone to do some filming of what really goes on after the sun goes down - when they think that no one is watching or no one will challenge them - then you will get a true picture of the problem. A constant presence is what it takes. COPS ON THE BEAT!
