Gannett To Lay Off Between 1,000 To 2,000 Workers!

MCLEAN — Gannett Co. is preparing to lay off more than 1,000 employees as the largest newspaper publisher’s work force continues to shrink along with its advertising sales.

Between 1,000 and 2,000 people will lose their jobs in Gannett’s latest round of cutbacks, according to a story published Tuesday on The Wall Street Journal’s Web site. The Journal quoted an unnamed person familiar with the McLean, Va.-based company’s thinking.

The layoffs aren’t a major surprise because Gannett’s main source of revenue — advertising — has been rapidly drying up. Ad sales at Gannett’s newspapers plunged 34 percent during the first three months of this year and analysts doubt the company fared much better during latest quarter that just ended.

Competition in the pharmacy business must be pretty tough these days. In order to get your business, pharmacies have begin promoting themselves like never before. These efforts to lure customers are not always met with approval. Like when some pharmacy chains started giving away free antibiotics and insinuating that the drug could be used to help fight cold and flu viruses. Experts worried that this type of promotion might send consumers the wrong message about the proper use of antibiotics.

If experts are worried about pharmacies handing out prescription drugs like candy, I wonder how they would feel about a pharmacy that hands out candy like prescription drugs. That is exactly what a Sam's Club pharmacy in Salisbury, Maryland was doing last week.

Sams' Club is a membership store and has a checkpoint at the entry where shoppers must show their identification before entering. But at this particular store, employees weren't just checking member cards, they were also promoting the in-store pharmacy by giving children prescription medicine bottles filled with candy.

That's right, they stuffed Tootsie Rolls and Dots into real prescription bottles with real prescription labels and handed them out to children. I think this takes the prize for sending the wrong message about prescription medication. After complaints about the promotion, Sam's Club dropped it and issued an apology. Deeming it an "isolated incident," Sam's Club Corporate Communications Manager Susan Koehler promised it would never happen again.

It would seem that this was a case of a rogue pharmacy department trying to be clever without corporate approval. But does it really take a degree in marketing communications to recognize the sheer stupidity of this idea?

Court Rules Franken Has Won Senate Race; Coleman Concedes

Updated The Minnesota Supreme Court has just issued its long-awaited judgment in the Senate race, declaring that Democrat Al Franken is the winner. And Norm Coleman, his opponent, at 4 p.m., announced that he had conceded and contacted Mr. Franken.


The 32-page unanimous decision by the state’s highest court was released after a seven-months long battle over the seat formerly held by Norm Coleman. On every ground, the judicial panel rejected Mr. Coleman’s claims of trial errors or constitutional violations, and decided that Mr. Franken’s election should be certified by the state as valid.


Mr. Coleman stepped outside his home just a short while ago to give his news conference. He indicated that he and Mr. Franken had a positive, personal talk and he told the Democrat that being senator was the “best job he’ll ever have.”

Wal - Mart Supports Employer - Mandated Health Coverage

SAN FRANCISCO (Reuters) - Wal-Mart Stores Inc , the world's largest retailer, said on Tuesday that it supports President Barack Obama's push to require large employers to offer health insurance to workers.

"We are for an employer mandate which is fair and broad in its coverage," stated a letter addressed to Obama and signed by Mike Duke, the chief executive of Wal-Mart; Andy Stern, the president of Service Employees International Union (SEIU) and John Podesta, the CEO of the Center for American Progress.

Wal-Mart's public statement of support for employer mandated coverage comes as Obama pushes for an overhaul of the $2.5 trillion U.S. healthcare system. He has made a healthcare plan that reins in costs and covers most of the roughly 46 million uninsured Americans one of his top priorities.

While the president has left much of the details of health reform to Congress, he has told U.S. lawmakers he is open to requiring larger companies to provide coverage for employees but exempting smaller businesses.

What Do The Salisbury Police Do?

I've read many of your postings regarding Chief Webster of the Salisbury Police Department and have had an unsettling experience with their detectives myself. My question today is, Why don't the police respond to a resident who is actively witnessing a drug transaction?

A friend of mine is trying to rid themselves of drug activity, but when she calls the police, they do nothing. They act as if she is bothering them with the reported activity. I don't understand. Should I advise her to call Sheriff Lewis or do they only handle issues outside of city limits?

Well Concerned Citizen, that's a good question. My only answer at this time is, Salisbury is in Wicomico County and you have every right to call the Sheriff's Department. I'd add, contact Davis Ruark as well. After all, he is in charge of all the Police Agencies in Wicomico County.

Happy Harry’s Robbery Probed

Location of Incident: Happy Harry’s, 1120 Pulaski Highway, Glendale Plaza, Bear, Delaware, New Castle County

Date and Time of Occurrence: Saturday, June 27th, 2009 at approximately 5:00 a.m.

Suspect(s): White male, 24-26 years old, 5-7 to 5-8, 140 to 190 lbs., brown beard, unknown tattoo on the right wrist / forearm, wearing a green baseball cap, dark colored sunglasses on the baseball cap, black t-shirt with an unknown design on the front, gray shorts, and white sneakers

Resume: On Saturday, June 27th, at approximately 5:00 a.m., the below pictured suspect entered the 24-hour Happy Harry’s location at 1120 Pulaski Highway, Glendale Plaza, Bear, Delaware.

The suspect approached an employee and claimed he was armed. The suspect demanded the prescription medication Oxycontin from the pharmacy. The suspect obtained an undisclosed amount of medication and fled the store in an unknown direction.

Attacker On The Loose - STILL

Have you seen this man?

On Wednesday, August 6, 2008 at the hour of 6:00 a.m. this man broke into a home on New York Avenue, stole items and assaulted the homeowner.

He is approximately 19-22 years of age.
He is about 5'7" to 6-ft tall and very thin - you can see his tendons thru his skin on his arms, and his facial cheeks are sunken in - very very muscular.
He is African American, but a light "brown" vs. black skin color. He has a large nose but not wide spread.
He has no facial hair, moles, scars, .... very "clean" looking.
He has very nice straight white teeth.
His eyes are very round with dilated pupils and lots of white space.
He also has long thin fingers with nails that appear to have been manicured.

He has been seen repeatedly in and around N. Division Street between Walnut St to New York Ave, mostly around Lehigh - Philadelphia. He has also been seen near and going in the 2nd house in on N. Division from Philadelphia. Another location where he has been seen visiting is 221 New York Avenue. The police have been notified each time he has been seen in the area yet, no action on the part of police.

The attacker knows his way around Johnson Lake & Newtown well and has the ability to just vanish when he knows he is being followed or observed. He has vanished on Walnut and on Lehigh going towards Rt. 13 in and around some run down houses.

It took the Salisbury Police Dept 90 days to set an appointment with Dr. Kim, head of the art department at Salisbury University, to do an artists rendering of this criminal? Why, what took so long?

Former neighbors of the victim heard her screaming from her window for help. The wife called the police and stayed on the line with them while her husband was brave enough to follow the attacker up New York Avenue. He saw the attacker go behind the 2nd house from the corner of New York on Division St. The neighbors husband saw where the attacker went, got a very clear description of him. He then relayed all of this information to the police at 6:30 a.m. The police never went to the house on Division St until 2:30 p.m. The attacker was not at the location 8 HOURS LATER. The victim has seen the attacker again in her neighborhood, called the police, when they finally arrive, they go in the residence, come out and say "It's not him". NEVER do they ask the victim to make an identification. NEVER is she given the opportunity to make an identification.

When the victim asked the police to take fingerprints from her home she was told they were not equipped to do that. What police agency does not have access to a crime lab or other agency that is equipped to lift fingerprints? Then Chief Webster visits the victim, 10 hours later, at 4:30 p.m.. Miraculously they have the ability to lift fingerprints at 6:30 p.m., 12 hours after the crime was committed. By this time, after being told they had no way to lift prints, the victim cleaned up the mess left by the attacker. The victim asked Chief Webster many times WHY his men did NOT follow up ASAP and his reply was ...."I don't know, don't have an answer, perhaps change of shifts...." An answer like that will certainly promote confidence in the police. NOT!!! Although Chief Webster is convinced this was a random crime it is no excuse for the lackadaisical attitude displayed by him, the highest ranking police officer in the city.

Michael Jackson Left A Financial Mess Behind

Michael Jackson, the man they called "The King of Pop," worried he would end up dead like "The King of Rock 'n' Roll" Elvis Presley, the father of his ex-wife Lisa Marie. Jackson's worries are proving to be prophetic.

Already, the price of Jackson memorabilia is soaring. Pop culture expert Gary Sohmers, who also is an appraiser on "The Antiques Roadshow" told DailyFinance that he saw a reproduction of a Jackson autograph fetch $1,400. Jackson's actual autograph fetches about $400 to $800. Sohmers, a former music promoter who runs allcollectors.com, cautions would-be collectors against buying into Michael mania.

Settling Jackson's estate will be complex. Media reports indicate that the entertainer was $500 million dollars in debt when he died, despite having made $700 million as a performer over his career.

There's also the matter of what will happen to his three children. His mother Katherine's efforts to seek legal custody of the the kids, including "Blanket", who Jackson infamously dangled out of the window, are being opposed by Deborah Rowe, the mother of two of them.

Jackson/Rowe Not The Biological Parents

We've learned Michael Jackson was not the biological father of any of his children. And Debbie Rowe is not the biological mother of the two kids she bore for Michael. All three children were conceived in vitro -- outside the womb.

Multiple sources deeply connected to the births tell us Michael was not the sperm donor for any of his kids. Debbie's eggs were not used. She was merely the surrogate, and paid well for her services in the births of Michael Jr. and Paris.

In the case of Prince Michael II (the youngest), we're told the surrogate was never told of the identity of the "receiving parent" -- Michael Jackson. Three days after Prince was born at Grossmont Hospital in San Diego County, Jackson's lawyer came to the hospital to pick the baby up and deliver him to Michael.

We do not know if Jackson chose the sperm or egg donors or if he even knew who they were.

Newly Released Press Releases From The Salisbury Police Department

On June 3, 2009 at approximately 1:30 am, Officers of the Salisbury Police received a call to respond to the Hardee’s Restaurant on South Salisbury Boulevard for the report of a robbery. Upon arrival the officers met with employees who advised that the restaurant had been robbed at gunpoint. The employees advised that two (2) suspects had made entry into the restaurant and approached the front counter, producing handguns. The suspects threatened the employees then directed the employees to give the available U.S. Currency to the suspects, who then fled from the restaurant through a rear door. There were no injuries. The suspects were described as:

1. White male, 5’08”, 180 lbs., wearing black sweat pants with a red stripe, a black hooded sweatshirt, and black and white shoes.

2. White male, 5’08”, 175 lbs., wearing black sweat pants, a black hooded sweatshirt, a white face mask and black and white shoes.

On June 3, 2009 at approximately 4:46 am, Officers of the Salisbury Police received a call to respond to a residence on the seven hundred (700) block of Baker St. for the report of a home invasion robbery. Upon arrival the officers observed that a victim had sustained a gunshot wound to the upper left chest. This victim, identified as 21 year old Jonathan Michael Duvall of Salisbury, was transported to the Peninsula Regional Medical Center where he remains in stable condition. Witnesses advised Salisbury Detectives that a lone suspect made entry into the rear of the residence then confronted the victim. The suspect produced a handgun and fired a single shot striking the victim. The suspect then took several items from the residence and fled from the area on foot. This investigation is continuing. The suspect was described as:

Black Male, 20 to 25 years of age, 6’01”, thin build, wearing a black pullover style hooded sweatshirt, blue jeans, and black shoes

Nathan McNeil Long, 42yoa of Salisbury was arrested on June 4, 2009 on an outstanding arrest warrant for Attempted 2nd Degree Murder, Assault 1st & 2nd, Dangerous Weapon with Intent to Injure, Reckless Endangerment, and False Imprisonment. On June 2, 2009, Officers responded to the 600 block of Fitzwater St in reference to an assault. Officers met with the victim who advised that she was involved in an argument with Long the day before. Long then got a hammer and pushed the victim onto the bed and started to choke the victim. Long also struck the victim with the hammer and struck the victim several times in the face with a closed fist. The victim attempted to get away from Long. However, Long threatened the victim again and told the victim that she wasn’t going anywhere. The victim was able to escape later in the evening when Long was distracted. Long was released to the custody of Central Booking.

The Delaware State Police announces today the retirement of the Superintendent of State Police, Colonel Thomas F. Mac Leish, effective Wednesday, July 1. Mac Leish, who faces mandatory retirement at age 55 in August, has served the residents of Delaware with distinction for almost 32 years.

Mac Leish joined the State Police in 1977. Over the years, he rose steadily through the ranks. In 2001, he was promoted to Major where he served as Operations Officer for Kent and Sussex Counties. In 2003, Mac Leish was promoted to Lt. Colonel where he served until October of 2004 when he was appointed Acting Superintendent by Governor Ruth Ann Minner. In 2005, Governor Ruth Ann Minner appointed him to the position of Superintendent, with the rank of Colonel.

Since assuming the role of Superintendent, Mac Leish has led the DSP overseeing 671 sworn troopers and 255 civilian employees. He is credited with effectively leading the State’s largest police agency during a time of constant change and with the numerous, multi-faceted challenges police organizations face today. He was squarely focused on providing effective and efficient law enforcement services with an attitude of professionalism and compassion and with maintaining open and healthy relations within the agency, the media and the public.

Mac Leish stated “For the past 32 years I have been blessed to serve the citizens of this state while working for one of the best organizations in the country. It’s been an absolute honor and privilege to lead such a group of outstanding men and women who so proudly represent DSP and selflessly provide law enforcement services to the citizens and visitors of Delaware. I will miss them tremendously.” Mac Leish continued to say, “I know the rich history and tradition that I have worked so hard to preserve will continue under the new leadership and that the DSP will continue its path forward as one of the best and brightest law enforcement agencies in the nation.”

During his tenure with the State Police, Mac Leish served on many related councils and organizations such as the Delaware Police Chiefs Council, the Council on Police Training, the International Association of Chiefs of Police, Camp Barnes and others. He holds a B.S. in Management and Supervision from Wilmington University and is a graduate of the F.B.I. National Academy. In 2006, he also graduated from the FBI's National Executive Institute. Mac Leish and his wife Margie reside in Kent County and have four sons.

Highlights of Mac Leish’s career with the State Police include:

Working with state government to move the State Bureau of Identification to a newer and larger location at the Blue Hen Corporate Center. This provided better working conditions for state police civilian staffers to allow them to carry out the ever increasing demands required by legislation and a growing population.

Colonel Mac Leish also oversaw the creation and implementation of the Delaware Information & Analysis Center, DIAC. Focused on protecting Delaware’s infrastructure and combating terrorism, this renowned fusion center houses all forms of intelligence information in one repository.

Colonel Mac Leish worked with the General Assembly to implement 24 hour aviation coverage in Delaware. Having the ability to bring trauma victims to a medical facility within minutes during overnight hours was a focal point of Mac Leish’s strategic plan to reduce loss of life on Delaware roadways.

Colonel Mac Leish and Attorney General Beau Biden worked collaboratively to create the Child Predator Task Force. This group is focused on protecting our children and patrols the Internet looking for individuals who invite themselves into our homes via computers to victimize our children.

The Sex Offender Apprehension and Registration Unit (SOAR) was formed under Colonel Mac Leish’s leadership. This unit is comprised of troopers who monitor convicted sex offenders for compliance and investigate any violations associated with the Sex Offender registry.

Understanding and recognizing the rise in violent crime across the country, Mac Leish saw the need for a Forensic Firearms Services Unit (FFSU). This unit is comprised of troopers and a civilian who are responsible for the forensic examination of weapons, fired bullets, cartridge cases or other ammunition components that have been fired from a specific firearm. This unit has given law enforcement personnel in Delaware and surrounding states the ability to effectively analyze ballistic evidence resulting in higher arrest rates and convictions for gun related crime.

Mac Leish himself views his work on police leadership development as one of his most significant accomplishments. He worked with the International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP), where he served as an Executive Board Member, to develop the Leadership in Police Organization (LPO) program. Over 100 troopers have taken advantage of the course. The program focuses on the cultivation and preparation of future police leaders.

Another achievement came with the formation of the Cultural Diversity Counsel within the State Police. This working group was comprised of both sworn and civilian members of the DSP coming from a variety of ethnic backgrounds. The purpose of this group was to help enrich and enlighten the members of the division in various matters of diversity.

Child Located After AMBER ALERT Issued

Delaware State Police, the United States Marshals Service and Mt Laurel, NJ, Police Department have located Zion Duprey early this morning. Zion had been reported abducted from Sussex County, DE over the weekend by his estranged father. U. S Marshals Service began working with state police detectives at Troop 4 in Georgetown shortly after his abduction. Marshals tracked his father, Angel D. Duprey, to a motel in Mt Laurel, NJ. With the help of the Mt Laurel Police Department, Zion was located and his father was taken into custody. Zion was in good health when he was located.

Salisbury officers located the stolen vehicle within minutes and placed the below listed suspect under arrest. The suspect was also found to be driving on a revoked and suspended driving license. National Holiday in Iraq

In case you didn't know, today is the deadline for US forces to withdraw from Iraqi cities and turn control over to the Iraqi police.

It is a day of victory, for us and for them. Iraq even declared today a national holiday - National Sovereignty Day.

US-led combat operations are due to end by September 2010, with all troops gone from Iraq by the end of 2011.

Both American and the Iraqi commanders say they are expecting al-Qaeda in Iraq and other groups to attempt to re-ignite sectarian tensions.

Rasmussen Presidential Approval Index Falls Below Zero For First Time

Well Folks,

It apparently only took six months to the day after the "Historic" inauguration of Barack Hussein Obama for this to occur... In Rasmussen Reports: Daily Presidential Tracking Poll, Mr. Obama's approval index has hit -2! This moves in concert with the falling poll numbers for his policies.

Health care is an example, Pew Research Center has some data on support for ObamaCare which shows the support is softening fast. (see here: Obama's Ratings Remain High Despite Some Policy Concerns)

With all the veiled Socialism that Obama is implementing with breakneck speed and vehemently denies yet has historical precedent for its implementation, is it any wonder that his numbers have reached this level? People are catching on...

The doorway to Socialism, is paved with the lives and freedoms that fall victim to the deception of National Healthcare. Of course, those that want to see this sort of thing here, DO NOT CARE for the opinions of the people, but they will sell you on it through notions of compassion for those that "have not" forgetting to mention that this compassion already exists, and many do not go without.

Ronald Reagan addressed this in as far back as 1961 and in this speech cited historical precedent as to the motives and agenda of Socialists like the Democrat Party and Mr. Obama.

Easy Removal Of Ticks

Apply a glob of liquid soap to a cotton ball. Cover the tick with the soap-soaked cotton ball and swab it for a few seconds (15-20), the tick will come out on its own and be stuck to the cotton ball when you lift it away. This technique has worked every time I've used it (and that was frequently), and it's much less traumatic for the patient and easier for me.

Unless someone is allergic to soap, I can't see that this would be damaging in any way. I even had my doctor's wife call me for advice because she had one stuck to her back and she couldn't reach it with tweezers. She used this method and immediately called me back to say, "It worked!"

WILL DOUG GANSLER CONDONE WICOMICO COUNTY’S SHELL GAME?

Here’s the letter from the County’s school system asking Maryland’s Attorney General to rubber stamp the scheme hatched after the State Board of Education rejected the County’s request for waiver of the “maintenance of effort” required under State law in order to receive funding. As pointed out, the County budget for FY 2010 prepared by Rick Pollitt and adopted by the County Council would be Two Million Dollars short if the scheme is not allowed by the State to satisfy the requirement.

The letter describes how money in the Board’s “School Construction Savings Plan” – established to pay for work on schools – would be “used for payment on debt service on school construction projects” by the County.” Somehow, so goes the scheme, that would “fully fund Maintenance of Effort,” apparently because it would allow the County to use an equivalent amount that it would otherwise need to appropriate to pay that debt to instead increase the appropriation to the school system.

Obviously it’s a circular flow of the money – first from the Board to the County, then vice-versa, with no net increase in County funding of the system. The money being flowed out and back represents funding previously appropriated by the County in past budgets that is now being “returned” so it can be send back. It’s difficult if not impossible to treat it as the additional funding of the system that’s required for maintenance of effort.

Hebron Fireworks

Mr. Albero,

Just wanted to throw you an email asking you to post on your site to get the word out to anyone looking for a place to go on the 4th of July. As in years past the Hebron Volunteer Fire Department will be having our annual fireworks display on the evening of the 4th. The display will be put on by Mr. Bill Morrison of Bay Fireworks in the feild directly behind the carnival grounds. Ground to sky action can be seen by using the entrance directly behind the carnival grounds, I recommend bringing a chair or blanket. The fireworks can also be viewed from your car on Old Railroad Rd. or the lions club ball park area on West Church St. We will have a tent set up in the field and a mobile unit selling beverages, cotton candy, candy apples, caramel corn, lighted balloon, and other novelty items that evening.

Our carnival will also be running that evening from 5p.m. until 9p.m. earlier than our normal hours of 6:30p.m.-until due to the evening events. I encourage all to come out and have a night of fun with us at the carnival and stick around for the fireworks. Myself being involved with the fireworks since we started, believe that it is one of the best shows around. We are expecting a big crowd so I recommend getting a spot early, the show should start sometime between 9:30 and 10p.m. Any questions can be answered by calling the Hebron Fire Department @410-749-3090. UPDATE: Shooting at the Claymont Station

Claymont- The victim in this case is a 21-year-old male subject. He was shot a single time in the arm. His injuries are not considered life threatening, however, surgery is anticipated today.

At the time of the shooting, he was in this parking lot of the train station with his friends when he was approached by a male suspect. Preliminarily, the motive for this shooting appears to have been robbery.

The suspect is described as a black male, light to medium complexion, early 20’s, 5’10” to 6’00” tall, hair pulled back with a pony tail, unshaven, average build, who was not wearing a shirt and who was carrying a small handgun.

If You Think Chief Webster Is Incompetent Now.......

Today a friend of mine reminded me of a Post we put up years ago that showed just how out of control things were back then.

He asked, do you think things are any better today. Well, the fact that there were criminals spray painting entire buildings for weeks on end with Graffiti and NO ONE was ever caught should tell you a lot about Chief Webster's leadership.

At the time, Mayor Tilghman and Chief Webster were telling the public there were NO GANGS in Salisbury, remember that Folks.

The Daily Times absolutely REFUSED to put ANY pictures in their Newspaper because the former Mayor probably had too much control over what they could and couldn't do/produce, so they provided nothing.

This Post, (one of many) clearly shows just how desperately Salisbury needed Salisbury News. Everything was being covered up and the Daily Times played the biggest role in doing so.

Take one quick look at just one of the Posts we put up and you tell me why the Daily Times would refuse to expose such criminal activity. I can recall their putting up one small photo, one in by one inch in size.

Resume: State Troopers are currently on the scene of a single vehicle injury crash on Route 1 southbound, south of Route 273, in New Castle. This crash involves an overturned tractor trailer. RECOM, the State Police dispatch center in New Castle County, advises that both of the southbound lanes are closed at this time and traffic is being diverted onto Route 273. Motorists should seek alternative routes.

Bernard Madoff Gets 150 Years!

NEW YORK (AP)- Historic swindler Bernard Madoff was sentenced to 150 years in prison Monday for a fraud so extensive that the judge said he needed to send a symbolic message to potential imitators and to victims who demanded harsh punishment.

Scattered applause and whoops broke out in the crowded Manhattan courtroom after U.S. District Judge Denny Chin issued the maximum sentence to the 71-year-old defendant, who said he lives "in a tormented state now, knowing all the pain and suffering I've created."

Delaware State Police Announce 37th Annual Camp Barnes Benefit Stock Car Race

Delmar- The 37th Annual Camp Barnes Benefit Stock Car Race will be held at the Delaware International Speedway on Tuesday, July 7, 2009. Gates to the speedway will open at 5:00 p.m. and racing action begins at 7:00 p.m. The rain date is scheduled for Wednesday, July 8, 2009. The Delaware International Speedway is located on (Sussex Highway) US 13 north of the Delaware – Maryland line. Tickets to the event are available at the speedway’s ticket booth the night of the event. Spectator tickets are $15.00 and pit tickets are $25.00. Children ten years of age and under accompanied by a parent or guardian are admitted free to spectator seating.

This year’s event will again feature competitors from New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Virginia and Delaware. Drivers will compete for over $35,000 in prize money. Modified, Late Models, Street Modified, Modified Lites, TSS AC Delco Modified and Little Lincoln Vintage Cars will compete in over 100 laps of feature racing in their respective classes.

Also, back by popular demand is the 12th Annual Camp Barnes Shoot-Out featuring the top five finishers from the Modified feature and the top five finishers from the Late Model Feature. A $2,000 cash purse is at stake when they go head-to-head in a twelve-lap dash.

Camp Barnes originally opened in 1948 to combat juvenile delinquency. The camp was named in recognition of Colonel Herbert A. Barnes. Colonel Barnes was the Superintendent of the State Police at the time of the camp’s establishment, and he was instrumental in raising the necessary funds and volunteer help to make Camp Barnes a reality. The camp is located next to the Assawoman Wildlife Area on Miller Creek, 6.7 miles southeast of Bethany Beach. During an eight-week span in the summer, sixty children, ages ten to thirteen attend Camp Barnes each week with no financial burden on their parents or guardians. The camp operates on an annual budget of approximately $223,000 a year not including major repairs, which the camp greatly needs. Camp Barnes gives approximately eight hundred underprivileged children a 2 to 5 night camp experience they would never have. The camp is used by Delaware State Police Underprivileged Camp Week, Special Olympics, City of Wilmington, 4-H Club, and Stockley Home for the Handicapped.

Is Chief Webster The Source For A Certain Blogger?

Someone is running vehicle tag numbers and furnishing the information to one of the most vile bloggers in the area. How else would he have gotten the information to post on his blog? Staking out the plaza to see who enters or leaves the building located at 300 W. Main Street is stalking, plain and simple. Running the plates on vehicles parked across the street from the building because they believe this person to be a friend or visitor of Joe Alberos' is stalking. Releasing the personal identification of someone because you believe them to be a friend or visitor of Joe Alberos' is STALKING.

Is Chief Webster now the flunkie of this vile blogger? Would Chief Webster abuse the power of his office? It has been said on that same blog, the vile blogger has sources in SPD. So, did someone in SPD run these tags and provide the information to the vile blogger? This is not information you can gain by a simple google search or an MVA search. This information had to be obtained by a police agency.

Does the person, named by the vile blogger, as being owner of the vehicle, parked in front of Parker Place, have grounds for a lawsuit? I would think so but, I'm not a lawyer, I don't even have a certificate on the wall.

It is highly doubtful, anyone at WCSO or MSP would jeopardize their position, to aid the vile blogger in his vendetta against Joe. It is highly doubtful, any of the line officers at SPD would jeopardize their position either. Especially after Chief Webster fired Dan Dougherty's step son from his dispatcher job after the photo of the murdered prostitute was released. Everyone over at SPD and every other police agency knows Webster is gunning for Albero and will stop at nothing to set him up.

So, the question of the day is WHO BREACHED NCIC PROTOCOL AND PROCEDURE?

Will this be investigated? Will someone lose their job? If I were investigating, I'd start at the top and work my way down.

If the Chief of Police weren't so busy trying to bust Albero maybe he could solve some of these crimes that have been let go cold.

Rite Aid Closing 114 Stores

Rite Aid Corp. plans to close as many as 117 stores over the next year. Reporting that its loss doubled in its fourth quarter, the drugstore operator said the closings will be scattered around the country, targeting those with weak sales or close to another Rite Aid.

The Walls Come Tumbling Down

Barrie Tilghman, Mike Dunn, Lynn Cathcart, John Jacobs, Jim Rapp, Carrie Samis, these were the names I vowed to remove from their positions four years ago, but I'm missing one, Webster.

It was two years ago at this time when Jim Rapp allegedly turned in his resignation to move on to greener pastures, (cough, year right) while some say the Mayor told him it was time to move on.

Nevertheless, these are the people who have done just about anything they could do to shut me down, have me arrested, you name it, they tried it. However, today Salisbury News has grown larger than the Daily Times and we continue to grow each and every day.

I share this photo for those who wondered if Rapp would ever leave and relieve the animals of such horrible deaths in volumes so unbelievable, even to this day I still can't believe it myself. That's OK though, they're in good hands now and many of the people involved in covering up the horror of that Zoo are now history and the animals can take a deep breath and sigh in relief.

Salisbury News spoke up for the animals and won, that's all that counts. Salisbury News stood up for the Citizens and won and again, that's all that matters. We'll just have to see what the new leadership brings us over time but one thing is for sure, it can't be worse than what we had!

Victim: 5-year old Zion Duprey, black hair, brown eyes, last wearing blue jean shorts to the knees and a blue shirt with white designs. Approximately 25lbs and 2'3" (photo attached)

Delaware State Police are still investigating this child abduction. We ask that the photos of the suspect and victim continue to be disseminated through media outlets. Two Charged in Credit Card Theft

Prices Corner Bowling Alley, 3215 Kirkwood Highway, Wilmington, Delaware, New Castle County
Wal-Mart, 1251 Centerville Road, Wilmington, Delaware, New Castle County

Date and Time of Occurrence: Saturday, June 27th, 2009 at 3:15 p.m. and 3:56 p.m., respectively

Suspect(s):
Timothy Randall, 20, of Highland Avenue in Wilmington, Delaware
Jessica Paoli, 18, of Southway Drive in Newark, Delaware

On Saturday the 27th, Troopers were called to the Prices Corner Bowling Lanes for a reported theft of a purse. In this case, the 62-year-old female victim was bowling when a male subject, later identified as Timothy Randall, ran up and grabbed her purse. Randall, and his accomplice Jessica Paoli, took off on foot. The victim’s husband gave chase; however, he was unable to catch the bandits.

About 30 minutes after the theft, the suspects responded to the nearby Wal-Mart location on Centerville Road. Here, they attempted to use the victim’s stolen credit card to purchase several gift cards. This purchase was suspicious to the clerk at Wal-Mart who, with security, questioned Randall and Paoli. They asked for I.D., and when none could be produced, the two bandits again fled on foot. This time, Randall wasn’t so lucky in his escape.

Wal-Mart security officers latched onto Randall; however, Paoli got away. Randall was turned over to responding Troopers who charged him with the following offenses: Identity Theft (felony), Theft (felony), Unlawful Use of a Credit Card (felony) and two counts of Conspiracy 2nd (felony). He was committed to the Howard Young Correctional Institute in lieu of $5,000.00 secured bail.

Warrants were also completed for Jessica Paoli. On Sunday the 28th, Troopers responded to Paoli’s home. Inside, they found Paoli hiding underneath a baby crib. She was Charged with the same aforementioned offenses and committed to the Baylor Woman’s Correctional Institute in lieu of $7,000.00 secured bond.

Are There Only 27 Days In June??????

According to the Salisbury Police Department there is. While today is the 29th and there are in fact 30 days in this month, we'll never know what happened on the 28th, 29th & 30th. That is, unless someone gets on line and corrects it.

Standing With Freedom

Remember when the liberal punditariat sneered at George Bush for putting Iran in the “axis of evil” in his 2002 State of the Union address? Whole legions of sophisticated, nuanced thinkers rushed to explain the crudity of Bush’s thinking, not to mention his indulgence of dangerous religious ideas like “good” and “evil.” Iran is not a Hitlerian totalitarian state, they sniffed, and elections are held there, offering some level of democracy.

Typical of such thinking is a column not long ago by the New York Times’ Roger Cohen, in which this nuanced thinker wrote:

Totalitarian regimes require the complete subservience of the individual to the state and tolerate only one party to which all institutions are subordinated. Iran is an un-free society with a keen, intermittently brutal apparatus of repression, but it's far from meeting these criteria. Significant margins of liberty, even democracy, exist. Anything but mad, the mullahs have proved malleable. Most of Iran's population is under 30; it's an Internet-connected generation. Access to satellite television is widespread. The BBC's new Farsi service is all the rage. . . . The June presidential election pitting the incumbent, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, against Mohammad Khatami (a former president who once spoke in a synagogue) will be a genuine contest as compared to the charades that pass for elections in many Arab states. No fire has burned down the Majlis, or parliament.

I wonder what the people in the streets of Tehran would think about this “genuine contest,” or whether they appreciate Cohen’s sophistries like “un-free” and “intermittently brutal” and “margins of liberty” and “complete subservience to the state.” What percentage of a citizen’s freedom has to be eliminated before a regime will meet Cohen’s criteria for “complete subservience”? Let’s see, all candidates for office have to be approved in advance by the mullahs, and even then the election is blatantly stolen, after which protesters are killed and beaten, opposition leaders and their families arrested, the media silenced and internet interdicted, the “Supreme Leader” (sic!) Ayatollah Khamenei publicly threatens violence against his own citizens, gangs of paramilitary thugs rampage through Tehran like storm troopers — looks pretty totalitarian to me, though time will tell whether it ultimately lasts or not.

Court Rules For White Firefighters Over Promotions

WASHINGTON — The Supreme Court ruled Monday that white firefighters in New Haven, Conn., were unfairly denied promotions because of their race, reversing a decision that high court nominee Sonia Sotomayor endorsed as an appeals court judge.

New Haven was wrong to scrap a promotion exam because no African-Americans and only two Hispanic firefighters were likely to be made lieutenants or captains based on the results, the court said Monday in a 5-4 decision. The city said that it had acted to avoid a lawsuit from minorities.

The ruling could alter employment practices nationwide and make it harder to prove discrimination when there is no evidence it was intentional.

"Fear of litigation alone cannot justify an employer's reliance on race to the detriment of individuals who passed the examinations and qualified for promotions," Justice Anthony Kennedy said in his opinion for the court. He was joined by Chief Justice John Roberts and Justices Samuel Alito, Antonin Scalia and Clarence Thomas.

Rules Are Rules

The Good news: It was a normal day in Sharon Springs, KS when a
Union Pacific crew boarded a loaded coal train for the long trek to Salina.


The Bad news: Just a few miles into the trip a wheel bearing became
overheated and melted, letting a metal support drop down and grind on the rail,
creating white hot molten metal droppings spewing down to the rail.


The Good news: A very alert crew noticed smoke about halfway back in the train
and immediately stopped the train in compliance with the rules.


The Bad news: The train stopped with the hot wheel over a wooden bridge with
creosote ties and trusses. (In defense of the crew, according to Sixgun Jr., the crew tried to 'splain to higher-ups, but were instructed not to move the damn train!)

The Wicomico County Sheriff’s Office Reminds You to Drive Safely This Summer and To Never Drink and Drive.


To help prevent crashes, fatalities and injuries, the Wicomico County Sheriff’s Office will be participating in Checkpoint Strike-force and planning Sobriety Checkpoints and Roving Saturation Patrols this Holiday Weekend.

According the National Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) Alcohol is a major factor in fatal crashes during the July 4 holiday. In 2007 there ware 200 traffic related fatalities nationwide. Of those 44 percent involved a driver or motorcycle rider with a BAC of .08 or higher. Wicomico County alone averages 2 impaired driving crashes each July 4.*

This summer, don’t let your Fourth of July end in arrest-or even worse, death. Make smart decisions. Plan ahead so you can assure a safe way home. Whether you have had way too many or just one too many, it’s not worth the risk.

Tree Hugger

A woman from Los Angeles , who was a tree hugger and an anti-hunter, purchased a piece of timberland, near Grants Pass , OR ..

There was a large tree on one of the highest points in the tract. She wanted a good view of the natural splendor of her land so she started to climb the big tree. As she neared the top she encountered a spotted owl that attacked her.

In her haste to escape, the woman slid down the tree to the ground and got many splinters in her crotch. In considerable pain, she hurried to the nearest doctor. She told him she was an environmentalist and an anti-hunter and how she came to get all the splinters. The doctor listened to her story with great patience and then told her to go into the examining room and he would see if he could help her. She sat and waited three hours before the doctor reappeared. The angry woman demanded, 'What took you so long?' A Quick Police Response And A Keen Nose On A K-9 Helped In Robbery Apprehension

Location of Incident: Little Caesars Pizza, 1013 Governors Place, Bear, Delaware, New Castle County

Date and Time of Occurrence: June 28th, 2009, 11:44 a.m.

Suspect(s):
Devin Parker, 18, of South Shields Street in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
Wyatt Davis BMN, 19, of Daniels Court in Bear, Delaware

Resume: On Sunday the 28th, a robbery occurred at the Little Caesars Pizza involving the two suspects listed above. In this case, the suspects, who concealed their faces, entered the store. The first suspect- Devin Parker- jumped the counter and implied that he had a handgun. The store employees were then ordered into a bathroom while the second suspect- Wyatt Davis- obtained an undisclosed amount of cash. The two bandits then fled the location via the back door.

Troop 2 patrol units responded swiftly to the scene and canvassed the area. One Trooper located Parker and Davis on Boggs Street, sweating and out of breath. The subjects were detained while a Troop 6 patrol officer, and his trusty K9, performed a track which began at the rear door of Little Caesars Pizza. The track led to a pile of discarded clothes which the suspects wore during the robbery. In the clothes, Troopers found Mr. Parker’s driver’s license. The K9’s track then continued and ended at the very location where Parker and Davis were stopped by the initial Trooper on Boggs Street.

Arrest warrants were completed or both Parker and Davis charging them with 3 counts Robbery 1st, 3 Counts Unlawful Imprisonment, Wearing a Disguise during the Commission of a Felony, and Conspiracy 2nd. Both subjects were committed to Howard Young Correctional Institute on $ 60,000.00 bail.

On June 24, 2009 at approximately 1:39 pm, Officers of the Salisbury Police received a call to respond to a residence on the four hundred (400) block of Poplar St. for the report of a burglary in progress. During the response to the residence, one officer was made aware of a possible suspect several blocks away. The suspect, listed below, was located by the officer and positively identified by the victim of the burglary. Upon meeting with the victim it was learned that the victim had returned to his residence and had found the suspect inside of the residence attempting to take an air conditioner unit. The suspect then fled from the residence and was located by the officer. When arrested, the suspect was found to be in possession of suspected marijuana.

On June 25, 2009 at approximately 8:41 pm, Officers of the Salisbury Police received a call to respond to the Boscovs Department Store at the Centre at Salisbury for the report of a shoplifter. Upon arrival officers met with store security who advised that store employees had observed the below listed suspect take clothing from the store without making any attempt at payment. The clothing was recovered from the suspect and returned to the store.

On June 25, 2009 at approximately 9:50 pm, Officers of the Salisbury Police received a call to respond to the area of E. William St. for the report of a group of subjects involved in a domestic argument. Upon arrival the officers observed below listed suspect # 1 shouting at several subjects. Attempts to quiet the suspect failed and suspect # 1 was arrested for disorderly conduct. As the officers took suspect # 1 into custody, suspect # 2 also became disorderly and interfered with the arrest of suspect # 1.

ARRESTED #1: Juvenile, 15 years of age Salisbury, Maryland

Disorderly conduct
Failure to obey a lawful order
Resisting arrest

On June 25 2009 at approximately 10:15 pm, Officers of the Salisbury Police arrested the below listed suspect on an outstanding warrant charging him with an assault that occurred on April 27, 2009.
On that date the suspect became involved in a domestic type argument with several subjects known to the suspect at a residence on Elizabeth St. During the argument, the suspect threatened the suspects with a machete than fled from the scene

For those of us who live in Maryland's First Congressional District, we should give a big thanks to "Blue Dog Frank" Kratovil for voting to grind our economy to a halt.  What's next on the Obama - Pelosi - Kratovil agenda?  Socialized medicine.

All too often these days people are getting bogus telephone calls that turn into scam calls. One thing they want is your Social Security Number. They'll tell you a Family Member has been injured in an accident and in order to release the information, they need your Social Security Number.

When you ask who they are and any other detailed information they tell you they cannot give out that information until you have given up your Social Security Number.

Once you realize this is a scam, many choose to try to hit *69 to see who was calling but these people are too smart for that, they have their number blocked. So here's what you do.

When you get a bogus call, hang up the phone and IMMEDIATELY dial *57. Remember that Folks, *57! This will lock in that number no matter what they do and as soon as you contact the Police and tell them you've locked in the number by dialing *57, they can and will immediately know who was placing the illegal call.

Start getting used to *57 just like we did *69. *57 will stop these criminals and we can finally fight back. *57 and then call your local Police, it's that simple. Any time you're being scammed and they refuse to give up their information, hang up and dial *57.
