National Holiday in Iraq

In case you didn't know, today is the deadline for US forces to withdraw from Iraqi cities and turn control over to the Iraqi police.

It is a day of victory, for us and for them. Iraq even declared today a national holiday - National Sovereignty Day.

US-led combat operations are due to end by September 2010, with all troops gone from Iraq by the end of 2011.

Both American and the Iraqi commanders say they are expecting al-Qaeda in Iraq and other groups to attempt to re-ignite sectarian tensions.

You people live in a world of lollipops and laughter and neglect to see the truth.

The country is torn and in immediate danger of invasion from other totalitarian governments. You all think leaving is going to be a Godsend. You'll see. Iraq will suffer. Sad but true - and realistic.

10:28 - where exactly is the victory?

Victory for the troops..see they get to stop dying for an illegal war.

IMO this is not a victory or a loss either one.
We should not have been over there in the first place and since we have been over there, Al Queida (spelling probably not right) has really amped up their activities inside Iraq.
The Iraqi's have had more than enough time to get their stuff in order to run and protect their own turf.
If they can't, that's their problem, not ours.
Peace will NEVER be found in the Middle East. Democracy will NEVER be found in the Middle East.
It's useless for our men and women to die trying to put those things in place.
Glad they're coming home!

Al-Qaeda would not even have been there if we had not gone in and stirred a hornets nest. We made the country so unstable they flocked there to stir up anti American militants and we played right into their hands.

Yep we should have stayed home and let Saddam kill them all.

Who cares?
What about our own country going to hell.
That is what has happened to america, we do nothing for our selfs, what about our infrastructure?
What about our soldiers dieing for them , when they set back and do nothing.
We should help anyone we can, but not let ourselves die in the process.
Those of you in favor of staying , why dont you go over there and save the iraqs.
Maybe they will give you a cut of the oil money, sorry that goes to dick chaney and george bush.

4:13 - Under the terms of the original Gulf War cease-fire, we had the right to unilaterally resume hostilities with Iraq if Iraq was not complying with UN resolutions. So the war is not "illegal." Get educated.

Also, all of you who blame everything on Bush/Cheney please remember that the Democrats controlled the Senate at the time the vote was taken on the war so they share responsibility for the war as well.

Interesting how it's "victory" when Obama is in office but "illegal war" when Bush is in office.

Where are all the protesters? Obama still has 133,000 troops in Iraq, American troops are still being killed. The silence is deafining.
