Wicomico County Sheriff's Office Press Release

The Wicomico County Sheriff’s Office Reminds You to Drive Safely This Summer and To Never Drink and Drive.

To help prevent crashes, fatalities and injuries, the Wicomico County Sheriff’s Office will be participating in Checkpoint Strike-force and planning Sobriety Checkpoints and Roving Saturation Patrols this Holiday Weekend.

According the National Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) Alcohol is a major factor in fatal crashes during the July 4 holiday. In 2007 there ware 200 traffic related fatalities nationwide. Of those 44 percent involved a driver or motorcycle rider with a BAC of .08 or higher. Wicomico County alone averages 2 impaired driving crashes each July 4.*

This summer, don’t let your Fourth of July end in arrest-or even worse, death. Make smart decisions. Plan ahead so you can assure a safe way home. Whether you have had way too many or just one too many, it’s not worth the risk.

The signifance of DWI's should not outweigh the number of serious crimes in our area. In my opinion, Sheriff Dept. manhours should focus on murders and violent robberies. That in no way should be taken that DWI's aren't serious to our society.

Even though we have had this violent murderish crime recently doesnt out way the fact that so many people(children) die everyday from drunk drivers. Everyday.

More people die from violent crime then from drunk drivers and if you really want to split hairs more people die from sober drivers then drunk drivers. You can't write tickets and create revenue from murders but you can from drunk drivers it's all about money !!!

Why do people continue to drink and drive? The financial and legal fallout is just not worth it.
