It's going to looking even worse when that 6 foot storm water drain pipe gets online.
I've seen it a lot worse. There's only a moderate amount of floating trash here, including about a thousand cigarette butts and somebody's prescription drug bottle. The rest of it (the green/brown scum) is mostly tree pollen, which we have a huge abundance of this year. There's not much we can do about that stuff but wait for the outgoing tide.
Still, a weekly rowboat trip with a net along the riverfront would go a long way to making the river a lot more attractive.

True, Joe. Its nasty. That said, there were people who care about this city and want it to be something special out in force at the Raft Race (yep, in the 'big muddy') (and thanks to the organizers). We can all complain, but we've all got to recognize that whining and criticizing doesn't produce action. A positive outlook and a steadfast commitment to improving things does. Lookin forward to the next Raft Race in 2010!
I think the marina should be a place where people can rent canoes and kyacks to paddle up the river around town stop in have a drink and some lunch at Market street and enjoy themselves. The RIVER is the key to a successful downtown and a vibrant Salisbury.
obviously we dont need those expensive filters on the drain pipes on the river. We would much rather have the trash in the river than have it in the dump where it belongs.

That area of the river has been like that ever since the early 1980's when the Salisbury festival first started and probably beyond that. It is amazing that the public works department ignores this. If nothing else, put the inmates at the jail to work cleaning it up, atleast the county has road crew inmates who do it on county roads.
2:03 those are great ideas and hopefully will one day bare fruit. First we need to stop the sewage overflows and spills and get it cleaned up. Sorry but as it is, my kids won't be rafting on that river. Not as it is anyway.
