WARNING! Telephone Scam

THE PUBLIC IS WARNED TO BEWARE OF A POSSIBLE TELEPHONE SCAM OCCURING IN THE AREA. A LOCAL RESIDENT REPORTED TO MARYLAND STATE POLICE TODAY THAT THEY RECEIVED A CALL FROM A MAN IDENTIFYING HIMSELF AS DAVID BROOK.

BROOK INFORMED THE VICTIM THAT THEY HAD WON MILLIONS OF DOLLARS AND WANTED TO KNOW IF THE VICTIM WANTED TO RECEIVE THE MONEY PRIVATELY OR WITH THE MEDIA INVOLVED. BROOK ALSO STATED THAT HE HAD ARMED GUARDS FOR THE MONEY.

WHEN CONTACTED BY MARYLAND STATE POLICE, BROOK WAS UNCOOPERATIVE AND IT WAS READILY APPARENT THAT HE WAS NOT A LEGITIMATE BUSINESSMAN. THIS INFORMATION HAS BEEN PASSED ALONG TO HOMELAND SECURITY INTELLIGENCE DIVISION FOR FURTHER INVESTIGATION.

THE MARYLAND STATE POLICE WANT TO REMIND THE PUBLIC TO PLEASE EXERCISE EXTREME CAUTION WITH ANY TELEPHONE SOLICITOR. DO NOT GIVE ANY PRIVATE INFORMATION. DOCUMENT THE NUMBER THEY ARE CALLING FROM AND CONTACT YOUR LOCAL AUTHORITIES IMMEDIATELY.
