Urban Salisbury

Hi Joe,

Can you find out anything more about the closing of Urban Salisbury and with that Allan Hope.

As I understand it, she would not allow (or had Louise not allow) Allan to present his power point presentation to the City Council while seeking $20,000 to make it through June. Instead, it appears that Barrie has hired Michael Dunn into a part-time position as the new Main Street Coordinator.

First she does this as she is headed out the door.

Secondly, the appointment of Michael Dunn seems to have been done without advertising or competition.

Aside from having been the President of the City Council, we citizens have no idea what qualifications Michael brings to the table.

The City indicates that the Main Street Coordinator program has been very successful elsewhere, but if you go to the Main Street website and look for local coordinators, Allan Hope is already listed there - so this is nothing new! And Allan has had his successes.

By taking this action, she is putting back into the picture a politician from the past with whom she was closely affiliated, and as I understand it Michael's reputation as councilman was questionable, he's aligned with the slumlords, I believe he is a realtor (so considering the economy, he is probably broke right now and needs a favor/funding). I believe he is a member of SOPAO and a slumlord too, but have not confirmed that! (I'm relatively new here).

This should have waited for Jim to consider. Maybe we cannot afford Urban Salisbury, but we surely cannot afford Michael Dunn at $20,000 for one little job, when all Jim will be earning is $25,000 for one great big job!

If Barrie has hired Dunn or anyone else without Council approval and/or properly appropriated funds, there needs to be an immediate revocation -- at the Coucil meeting on April 13.

To the OP:
The Michael Dunn being discussed is not the same Michael Dunn that runs the real estate/rental business. They have different middle initials. This Michael Dunn works at SU in some capacity.

With that said, the Dunn being discussed is still scum.

Howdy Doodyman did a great job with the Old Mall didn't he? Just like Bigfoot Tighlman to over step her bounderies before leaving office.

The Michael Dunn that works at SU is the former city council person that was such scum , the one whose daddy profited from The Sassafras scam.

Just a travesty that this group of hardworking folks, with actual successes behind them, were thrown out without a chance to present their case. Thanks, Barrie! Thanks, Louweasel!
Maybe after the dust settles, we'll be able to see and hear about their plans.

Urban Salisbury needs to be completely revamped. Allan Hope's expertise is not in fundraising and putting on events, which is part of what Urban Salisbury needed to do to survive.

There was some excellent work completed by Max Verbits that the City should see.

The majority of the participants in Urban Salisbury were the same old downtown folks with their same old agendas. The group never captured the imagination of others.

Now that so many merchants have left, there will be even less enthusiasm to try and fix things. Many of the property owners on the Plaza are trying to make huge profits on their investments. With the current conditions, no one is their right mind would want to open a business downtown.

There needs to be fresh ideas and new blood going forward.

Too bad potential business owners couldn't get any financial assistance for taking a risk and opening a business downtown, instead Tilghman grossly overpays for the fire station, creates a high paying fluff job for Lore chambers, gives millions in T.I.F. money to the wrong people. Imagine if the funds had been wisely spent to rejuvinate the Plaza, instead they wanted to develop the North Prong? Begs the question of who exactly stands to make a fortune from the North Prong scam. Anyone know?

Yes Michael Dunn works at SU, but not for SU. I don't think they would hire the likes of him. I heard that he works for the radio station which is housed there.

And his daddy isn't the only one who "profited from the Sassafras scam." Persons close to that situation stated that sonny himself profited in an undisclosed manner.
