3,000 People Want Jobs But Very Few Will Get Them

While Ocean City hosted a Job Fair and some 3,000 people attended, who's kidding whom here?

Let's get right through the BS and get to the TRUTH of the situation. Americans want a decent salary and Ocean City jobs just will not satisfy the Americans wants and needs.

instead, Ocean City will bring in several thousand Exchange Students from around the World approving Visa's where they'll accept minimum pay. If YOU want to see a REAL SCAM, some Investigative Reporter who ISN'T AFRAID of the authorities in Ocean City would go to the rooming houses and nail the crap out of the owners for allowing 7 human beings living in a studio apartment and paying $100.00 a week, (PER PERSON) to live there.

My Wife and I have had at least two of our children live in that environment and compete for those jobs and living quarters competing against those foreign students. There is under age drinking starting at 16 years old, (at least) drugs everywhere and living conditions that would make you sick to your stomach.

So while 3,000 people line up for potential jobs at the Beach and elsewhere, I feel it's like telling everyone the weather will be perfectly dry for the weekend just to draw everyone to the Shore, knowing it's going to rain anyway. Hopes may run high for some but reality will set in when only 200 of the 3,000 people applying for a job actually get hired. Also, they may get hired early on BEFORE the foreign students arrive but they'll quickly learn that if they don't do exactly what they are told they'll quickly and easily be replaced.

Ocean City needs a good Reporter. I believe the Daily Times has ONE but they may not be around come summer time. How do YOU feel about 3,000 people attending this Job Fair?

My wife and I were talking about this very thing Saturday while driving to Brooke's benefit. It's sad that so many of our own kids will be overlooked. I have also noticed several of the exchange students stay around after the season. You se they walking the streets all winter long. I thought it was just for the summer season.
Some are very "rough" looking by the end of summer. I've always wondered if it was a case of prostitution? I don't want to misjudge, I'm just going on observation.

I worked in OC for a couple of summers when I was in college.
There are a couple of instances where eight people will live in a two bedroom apartment but they dont care because the rent is still cheap and there is no lease.
The foreign students work the jobs no one wants (cleaing dishes, picking up trash) and most of them work two jobs. With the dollar below the euro I doubt you will see as many people this year.

Reconciled1 is right, but it is not just our kids that are being overlooked. I am a middle-aged single mom with a good full-time job but not good enough to solely pay the bills. I have been searching high and low to find anything--and I mean ANYTHING--part time to make ends meet. The problem is, that there is always someone (ie, foreign kids) who will work cheaper or under the table. Thanks to our government, business owners can't afford to hire Americans anymore. (That's why American industries have all moved overseas.) And now our "leaders" want to "stimulate the economy" by imposing more hardships on business owners who will, in turn, raise prices for services and goods and eliminate jobs. It is no different than raising minimum wage. In the end, it will only make the economy worse. Why do Americans continually accept these inane bandaids as a fix for such gaping wounds? We would not be in the midst of another depression if the government had simply protected consumers in the first place. Instead of bailouts, rebates and tax credits, we need lower gas prices, truly affordable health care coverage and protection from credit card companies, mortgage companies and banks who set us up to fail and then rape us when we do. I hope those of you who voted for "change" are now furious that you didn't get it.

I've worked in Ocean City for several years at a few different establishments and now serve in a management position. Its sad but true that in most cases hiring a foreign kid is better for business than a local teenager or college kid. The foreign kids will show up earlier, stay later, and never whine or complain inbetween. While a lot of American kids are there seriously working to pay bills and save money, a lot are there for the party and beer money.
