Celebrating The Class of 2009

We have been very blessed with our senior. His public education has served him well and he had his choices of universities. No complaints with WCBOE regarding HIS education and experience. We, his parents, can't take a lot of credit either. He was self motivated and driven to do well. Can't say that about all my children!

Many seniors I have spoken with are going on to a specific trade, joining the military or attending a university.

I would love to know where our future is going here on the Eastern Shore. Drop me a comment and let us know.

Congratulations to The Class of 2009!

"Can't say that about all my children!" - We can tell you are a great father. I wouldn't dream of saying something like that about my kids.

In all fairness I don't see anything wrong with what Joe said. Some children (like adults) are movers and shakers and some have to be moved and shaken. I have 2 that are complete opposites as well. You can't coddle your and hope they work it out. When you're a parent you help them work it out!!! That's why our country is in the jam it is..we better stop being nice and get real.

First, Anon 1:57, L Caruso is a mother, not a father. Second, Anon 2:25--the post was written by L Caruso, not Joe.

Both of my kids got great educations in Wicomico Ctny schools. They did well in college and one is going on to grad school. All schools are what you make of them. If the parents stay involved to be sure their kids are getting what they need, they should be successful.

I think it will continue to slide further into the abyss. When the corporate taxes increase every business will run to a country that doesnt cost them as much to operate, cheaper labor and more relaxed enviro laws to boot. Even if the residential building picks back up, half if not more than that will be lost to illeagal workers. The average man around here doesnt have a college degree to fall back onto. Personally I dont think they are worth what you pay for them anyway. There are no quality jobs here and none are coming. By the end of this year this place will look like a ghost town. The American dream is dead for the average working family, dead, dead, dead.

1:37 THANK YOU. You were the only one to answer the question. I guess there are only two on the Delmarva Peninsula that are planning to do something. Only kidding don't need more off topic comments.

1:57 I felt like I was giving the appearance of boasting so I said that. Of course I am proud of all my children, but they are all so different.

Doug, It appears we think alike on topics. The lost & forgotten people - Our middle class. Our largest portion of the population and they struggle the most even though they work so hard. Many can't afford health insurance, don't qualify for aid, most can't get loans to send their kids to college. They make too much money by our government standard but yet are having a difficult time to even live a normal life let alone the American dream.

We have a Junior in the WCBOE system, unfortunately she had a serious surgery back in December and has since not been able to return to school, we did all the paperwork to get her a hospital tutor, she comes by 2 times a week w/ the work the teachers have set out for her. So far the only teacher leaving work for her is her Math teacher, we went in and personally spoke with her English teacher in order to get the work, only then did she find something to send home, she has since set nothing out. All of the teachers know of this and all they have to do at the end of the day/week is to take her work down to the office, I have said that I would go in and pick it up and drop it off for grading and yet, nada, they just don't care, I've made numerous phone calls and sent emails and there is never a response. The hospital tutor is here for a total of 5 hrs a week and in that time at least 3hrs is spent playing board games as there just isn't enough work been sent home for our daughter to do. I've contacted the school on numerous occasions and all I get is "She'll only get her core subjects anyway and she'll be excused from taking exams this year for the other subjects." Ok, that sounds just fine and dandy but the fact remains that she will have lost 4 months worth of work and be totally unprepared in those subjects in her Senior year, next year.
It's hard to keep emphasising a good education to your kids when the educators themselves don't care.

Contact the board and ask to speak to the pupil personnel worker.
My mom used to be the pupil personnel worker in a different county and it was her job to make sure the "at home" students got their work and their tutor. The Pupil personnel worker should be able to work with the school and get her work for you. Good luck!

I have a senior graduating from Parkside. She plans to go to become a elementary education teacher. She did the CTE program and hopes to attend Towson or Salisbury to further her education.
I am very satisfied with the Parkside high teachers. I feel the majority truly care about their students and their education.
