How Many Of You Experience Wrong Prices At The Register

How about a report of all the store (especially grocery) that have either sales posted, or prices on the shelf that when checking out are different.

This happens to me every single time I go to the store. How many people question "I thought that was "99 cents" "Oh, it rung up 1.29, I will have to call for an override.
I have to send someone to go check the price...etc . etc. etc.

I insist that the price that is rung up be in my view so that I can question when things get rung up different that I think they should. However, many times, when I check my receipt the prices are different than what was posted. or I have been charged twice for the same object.

It seems to be a good story, because it happens to me almost every time I go to the store, and I shop almost all the grocery stores and Sams Club and Walmart.

OK, so here's the deal. We ALL know how frustrating this is but the key is, WHERE DOES IT HAPPEN MOST OFTEN? I think everyone would be interested to know who's screwing up the most and then we should probably add how often we shop at each location each week.

Man oh man, some of these local stores aren't going to be very happy campers when we're through. Oh well, we're the honest ones, not them.

this is related to grocery stores, but not on topic:
On Saturday I was at Fruitland Food Lion. Very nice store, nice deli, etc. But there was only an "express" lane open and one regular checkout lane. I went to the regular checkout and there was only one customer in front of me.

HOWEVER that one customer did at least 5 different checkouts while I was waiting. Some of her items were WIC, so she needed to have a separate receipt for each WIC check. No problem EXCEPT the salesclerk kept semi-totaling the register so the customer wouldn't go over the WIC amount, and then the customer left the line to go to the cereal counter and pick out cereal to fill up the remainder of the WIC amount. After the customer had checked out at least 3 times and still had more items in her cart, I went to the customer service counter and told the young girl that this one customer was holding up the line. The young girl said "I don't know what you expect me to do."

I'm just wondering if I was being unreasonable. Sometimes I ask that my "cold" items be packed all together rather than having them mixed in with dry goods and canned goods and the clerk tells me she can't do that because it takes too much extra time.

Am I being a beeeeech or what?

9:27 you are not being a beeeeech! I am so sick of standing in line at Wal Mart in the middle of the day when 2 healthy adults are there with their 3 or 4 kids paying for their grocery items with WIC. Why are they not working??????????? Maybe if they got a job we would not have to pay for them to feed their multiple kids.
It burns me up!

Here's my beef, I don't mind paying a little more at certain stores, but for the additional price, I feel there should be well trained and competent cashiers at the register. Good help is hard to find, repeat customers are even harder. (are you listening Super Fresh?)

What's even crazier if you compare some items to North end Walmart and Walmart in Fruitland, they are charging different amounts. Fruitland is cheaper, but they don't carry everything that the one on north end Walmart does. The one on north end is making more money on items cuz they are a busier store. Might be something to check out. It's interesting. I've seen differences in drink prices, cheese, meats, etc. It's all about suppl and demand. I try to go to the one in Fruitland as much as I can cuz they are cheaper.

Sean--As a WIC recipient, I am slightly offended by your comment. You shouldn't assume that someone who has WIC doesn't have a job. In fact, both my husband and I have jobs, and decent ones. Unfortunately, with the cost of health insurance & daycare, there isn't much left over after everything is paid. WIC certainly helps in getting my kids the foods they need to help them stay healthy & grow.

My wife read awhile ago that you should always check while at the grocery store for things that ring up wrong. I can't tell you how uch we have saved because of that. A couple of weeks ago at Harris Teeter in millsboro, there was a $50 difference due to things on clearance not ringing up correctly. Rick P

Food Lion is really bad about the prices not matching what is rung up at the register. If you bring it to their attention, they will fix it. But why can't they get it right to start with, so as to save the customer and theirselves the aggrivation?

Be on the lookout for the "buy one get one free" specials. I have a problem with these items not riging up properly almost every time.

I totally agree Mellisa. my family is in the same boat

I shop at Walmart a lot and they are terrible. If you happen to notice it after checkout, you must go stand in a terribly long line to receive your refund. I figure that they do that to thousands of customers a day who are unwilling to stand in line for their 20,30 or 50 cents. Also, Gander Mountain is never right...

9:27 AM- Special consideration will now be given to WIC account holders. This is one of President Obama 's changes that you all voted him in for.Just be patient as you have been catered to for the last 200 years.Smile and remember it takes less facial muscles to smile than frown.

I am a part-time cashier at Walmart. We do the best we can dealing with unreasonable customers like you and uinsympathetic bosses. There are other stores you can shop at and you can vary the time that you shop. We are open 24 hours. Take a break from TV and I will see you after 9:00 PM.

Not "much" left over? If there is anything left over, you shouldn't be on Govt. assistance.

I know a lot of people who make plenty of money, but for one reason or another qualify for WIC. Bartenders, waitresses, and other tip-based incomes often qualify. They use the WIC money to be able to live beyond their means.

There should be more self-responsibility. My husband doesn't love his job, but he stays for the great health insurance. I work part time to avoid daycare costs. And when things get tight, we have both had to take 2nd jobs, even nightshift jobs, to get by. And we have NEVER asked taxpayers to buy our groceries.

WIC and other programs should be reserved for those who have truly extraordinary, dire circumstances.

To 11:39 Cashier - Are you crazy? I'm not going out shopping anywhere after 9:00 p.m. Too much crime in Salisbury. I understand some people need WIC, and I understand some people abuse the system. But to accommodate everyone else, why don't they make WIC shoppers stand in line at a certain register and only use that register if they have WIC then regular paying customers could get in and out of the grocery stores alot quicker. And it's not only grocery stores you have to watch, better watch the cash register at Penney's, Boscov's and Macy's too.

Cashier

I used to shop at night at Walmart to avoid the lines. I DON'T anymore. I have complained several times about not being able to get down the isle because the people stocking the shelves have the isle blocked. I understand they do have to stock the shelves but why be 24 hours if you cant get down all the isle.
I was in walmart the other day and tried to buy something from the tobacco lane. The price was listed at 1.49. It rang up 2.33. They said they can't change prices on tobacoo products even if its listed as being one price and it rings up another price.
I wont complain about WIC. They only let them get certain things and certain sizes. Unlike food stamps where they can get any type of junk food.
Having to stand in line behind someone that is making that many orders makes you wonder. Why does she have to ring it up seperately? Is she getting it for others? Is that allowed..... or maybe she bought the wic coupons from some crack head for a discounted price and has to ring them up since they are from different people. Either way they should have opened another line *yeah right* and the clerk should have done something about it..... it is her job to serve customers.

anyone remember when Walmart first opened here. Their motto was.... if we have more then 3 people in a line we will open more check outs. Do you also remember how they used to brag about selling american products. Those are both things of the past. Not to mention the gabber checker. You know the one that wants to talk your ear off.....which is ok.. but they stop ringing up your stuff as they talk.

Melissa,
You need to pay for your own children my dear. Did you ever consider that I live pay check to paycheck? I don't expect you to pay for my groceries. You need to pay for your own little bundle of joy like i did. I can remember watching people like you with 28 cans of similac on the belt. ALL FREE!!! I paid for mine and let me tell you something. I had to put it in my budget at $13.99 a can. The next time you use your WIC checks at the register think about me eating chicken noodle soup so i can feed YOUR KID. You are the reason taxes are so high. I did not volunteer to donate to you, I was forced to!

Why do you people shp at Wal Mart? I would pay twice as much fr each purchase then to shop there. That place is rediculous. Forget the items that ring up wrong. The service sucks.

I have a friend who worked full time at a good job and she was pregnant with her first child. Sad to say, after 3 to 4 1/2 months into her pregnancy, a sonagram reveled severe deformaties with the baby and the doctor took her out of work right away. She had no income so she had to apply for food stamps and WIC so she could eat healthy and properly for the baby. The baby was born, had a lot of surgery, and she went back to work. She no longer needed assistance. So...before you jump to conclusions about everyone on assistance, just remember... you may not know all of their circumstances. And by the way, she hated going to the store because of the way others looked down at her.

Not everyone takes advantage of Wic..Not everyone is sitting on there a** having kids just to get wic witch is only for either Baby formula or juice eggs cheese peanut butter/or beans, cereal & Milk. Its not for other food items such as bread, ice cream, toilet paper..but some people take advantage and some idiot cashiers let them get away with either because they are too dumb to read the checks or dont know the rules or they let them do it because its a friend or family member. It goes by income.

I get wic..It helps alot..I work..I have two kids girl & boy..and then I got my tubes tied some of us took the extra precautions to not have children ..but were failed by pills & condoms. I wasn't ready to have 2 kids..and I knew I couldn't afford to be failed again So I took the most effective way I knew to make sure I wasn't having anymore. But without Wic, There was no way I would be able to afford formula. But thats all I get..I don't get Food Stamps or cash assistance or any other help.
So next time your getting all pissed..Look at what they are ringing up..if they are ringing up anything other than what I said earlier ..report them..they will get there wic rights taken away for good and maybe will be forced to get a job and provide those items their selves. Im pretty sure that fraud too.

FYI- foster parents are eligible to get WIC for the children that they take into their homes. That could account for the different purchases and checks- oh but wait- we are too quick to make assumptions about people when we have no idea what their circumstances are. Like someone said- WIC only covers specific items.

I am a Giant regular- although I did get upset on a recent visit when the elderly man in front of me asked how much was left on his food stamp card- he didn't understand how to work the card machine, and got flustered- the clerk got a little agitated with him- all he wanted to know was how much was left so he could buy some food. That made me sad.

One thing I have noticed about Giant is that many of their "normal" prices are lower than SuperFresh and Food Lion (and their deli is far superior to any other in the area). Also- they now have a system that you can scan all of your groceries and bag them yourself as you shop- thereby keeping a total and verifying prices as you go. When you're finished shopping, you just go to self checkout, and you're done (they do audits to prevent shop lifting, and there are employees all over the store). I didn't realize this until we did our shopping the other day- we got an extra $2.00 off our total just for doing the self-scan.

9:27- you could pack your items as you like with this system- although I have found that the nice checkout people at Giant usually do this automatically anyway (and I try to make it a bit easier by grouping similar items together).

Just FYI for those who don't know anything about WIC:

Each child/pregnant woman is allotted certain things each month (milk, peanut butter/beans, eggs, cereal, cheese, juice, formula, baby cereal). Children are eligible from birth to age 5. Pregnant women are eligible from beginning of their pregnancy, up to a year post-partum if breastfeeding, 6 months post-partum if formula feeding.

The checks are broken up for certain items, and the recipient has no control over that..YES, it is a pain when using several of them at once, but that's not the purchaser's fault, it's just the way the checks are issued.

One must meet income requirements in order to be eligible for WIC benefits, and this is closely monitored (every 6 months) as well as your child(ren)'s growth, to ensure you are feeding them the wholesome foods they offer.

I been getting WIC help in Wicomico Accomac and Sussex counties for years.I believe in sharing the wealth. I deserve a nice car and house along with extra money to party. It is not my fault I had bad teachers who couldn't teach me enough to get a good job or a job I enjoy. I claim my sister's 3 children in all 3counties and don't see anything wrong with taking my share of the American dream. If Obama can spend close to 200 million on his inauguration ,this makes me feel good about how smart I am and feel bad for all the suckers paying for government waste.

Some of you had better be more sympathetic with WIC receivers because your job might be lost tomorrow. Our economy has not reached the bottom yet. Then I want to hear some of the critics on this blog cry out.

6:27 god job at avoiding the issue! we are talking about the freeloaders like melissa. i would love to know if melissa has a cell phone, she obviously can afford internet service (that's a given) does she have her fingernails neatly manicured at nails plus? how about a nice little tan at All about tan? Does she eat steak every night? I think it is all about money management! Nobody minds helping one out in a time of need. Some of these people plan to retire of of welfare. You know it and I know it.

O.K. this blog is about opinions...here is mine. IT IS THE GOVERNMENTS FAULT...not mine! I too am tired of paying Melissa's way. I am tired of paying for a ten million dollar firehouse. I am tired of paying for everyone elses kids. I am tired of paying for all of you who claim to be disabled but yet you still fish, hunt, crab, run yur dogs, camp (which takes some muscles to set all that crap up), work out, have sex twice a day, carefully manicure your lawns, fix the pipes under the house, etc.etc, the list goes on, but yet you are sucking that check every month due to your disability. You also grab the check from the mailbox for those kids because 5 years ago your daddy had a bad shoulder. Get real people..you should look no further than the Holly Center. THAT is what I call disabled. Stop sucking the blood out of the system. Work like the people with morals do! AND the government needs to stop the hand outs. There are way to damn many people living off of the system. I have saved money in case of a rainy day? Why haven't you? When I lose my job I know I need to find another one before my nest egg runs out. It is that simple! Sorry you were not brought up that way. And I will open another can of worms..those of you that take your cars home that I pay for...buy your own car and your own gas, I should only be responsible for my own. Take your kids to soccer practice on your own gas in your own car. And as far as the WIC Program? It's just like welfare, it comes in the form of a check instead of a plastic card, we still pay for them in the same form (our taxes). If you can't afford a child keep your legs closed and this will prevent these things from happening.

It's funny you mention that... Every time I go to the Fruitland Food Lion I find myself in line behind someone paying with public assistance. The last time in particular, was a woman with an infant, a teenager, and 2 grown adult men with a cart full of food I couldn't afford myself. I'm tired from working all day, drive my beat up car to the grocery store only to stand behind people with fancy nails, designer clothes, and a newer car than me (usually parked in the fire lane). That is what's wrong with our societ. It's soooooo infuriating!

Anonymous said...

You can definitely tell the difference between people who are working hard to make ends meet and need a little help, and people who are taking advantage of the system. If you've got enough money to get your nails and hair "did," then you shouldn't be using your independence card and living off of the taxpayers. Unemployment is also a joke. We get people requesting applications all the time, specifically if we aren't hiring. This is not because they are looking for work, but to be able to say they are "applying" to coninue unemployment benefits. The welfare, unemployment, and Social Security/disability systems need some SERIOUS overhaul! If that happened, our country could probably save enough money to fund another bailout or two!

People like you make me sick..See this chic right here is why people make comments about others getting wic.. Not everyone is a piece of crap scrub like this girl. How is it even possible to claim someone elses kids? You have to go and take your children to the wic office and show identification . Its not your fault the teachers didnt teach you anything?? are you a retard ..Its your fault you weren't listening and paying attention in class..prob skipping or in the bathroom smoking cigs . what a loser. you deserve extra money to party..are you kidding me?!! why don't you take that extra money your drinking away or buying your crack with to buy your kids food? I get wic.. I got a great education ..I have a job...I don't have a cell phone..I have a piece of crap car ..live in a crappy neighborhood ..my kids wear walmart clothes or hand me downs but Im only on wic..no food stamps cash assistance. I haven't bought myself any new clothes or anything i want for my enjoyment since before i got pregnant. Im pretty proud I struggle everyday to make ends meet and dont screw the system or take advantage. My kids are healthy and happy ..thats all that matters to me. People like you prob dont pay any attention to your kids..they prob have issues and are running the streets causing trouble. Bet you will still be a proud govt. child when your kids are in jail for the rest of there lives because you taught them how to lie, steal and cheat. nice job

Ive had some problems with Walmart north and Target..they never have more than a line or two open during the day.

If the price is wrong once i get to the register and they wont give me the price that was posted than i simply ask them to take it off and then they have to put it back. You people need more patience. The cashiers cant help what there register is saying , They didnt put the prices in the system. They are just doing there job ringing you up and trying to get you outta there as fast as they can so they can move on to another person and get thru there shift.
Why is everyone always in a rush..thats how accidents happen Ive noticed that people who are always in a rush are always stressed out.
