Twas The Month Before Christmas

*Twas the month before Christmas*
*When all through our land,*
*Not a Christian was praying*
*Nor taking a stand.*
*See the PC Police had taken away,*
*The reason for Christmas - no one could say.*
*The children were told by their schools not to sing,*
*About Shepherds and Wise Men and Angels and things.*
*It might hurt people's feelings, the teachers would say*
* December 25th is just a 'Holiday'.*
*Yet the shoppers were ready with cash, checks and credit*
*Pushing folks down to the floor just to get it!*
*CDs from Madonna, an X BOX, an I-pod*
*Something was changing, something quite odd! *
*Retailers promoted Ramadan and Kwanzaa*
*In hopes to sell books by Franken & Fonda.*
*As Targets were hanging their trees upside down*
* At Lowe's the word Christmas - was no where to be found.*
*At K-Mart and Staples and Penny's and Sears*
*You won't hear the word Christmas; it won't touch your ears.*
*Inclusive, sensitive, Di-ver-si-ty*
*Are words that were used to intimidate me.*
*Now Daschle, Now Darden, Now Sharpton, Wolf Blitzen*
*On Boxer, on Rather, on Kerry, on Clinton!*
*At the top of the Senate, there arose such a clatter*
*To eliminate Jesus, in all public matter.*
*And we spoke not a word, as they took away our faith*
* Forbidden to speak of salvation and grace*
*The true Gift of Christmas was exchanged and discarded*
*The reason for the season, stopped before it started.*
*So as you celebrate 'Winter Break' under your 'Dream Tree'*
*Sipping your Starbucks, listen to me.*
*Choose your words carefully, choose what you say*
*Shout MERRY CHRISTMAS ,
not Happy Holiday!*
Please, all Christians join together and
wish everyone you meet
MERRY CHRISTMAS

Christ is ʽThe Reasonʼ for the Christ-mas Season!

I've seen this inane so-called-poem before, but I'd like to take this opportunity to rant for a moment about "Christians." Now I know a lot of very good, decent, honest Christians who don't feel the need to beat me, or anyone else over the head with their faith on a regular basis. This comment is not directed at anyone like that. But why do so many Christians think that this country is theirs alone, and the rest of us are permitted to live here simply because they are so "giving" and "kind". And please don't give me that "Founding Fathers were Christian" crap until you've read some Thomas Paine, try "The Age of Reason" for starters... (You do know who Thomas Paine is don't you? Father of the American Revolution? Well... I don't have time but try this - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thomas_Paine) Ben Franklin and Thomas Jefferson were deists also, and the movement revolved around the idea that revealed religion is false - true religion is based on the observations of the senses and not belief in someone else's 'revelation' (ie. The Bible) So no, this country was not founded by Christians, at least not exclusively, and not bearing any resemblance to the fundamentalists that have seemingly overrun our country. The thing is, we live is a pluralistic society - one that was designed to be that way by the Founding Fathers. If you don't like it, might I suggest some other places to live where everyone must believe the same thing, such as Saudi Arabia, or North Korea - or how about Stalinist Russia or even 16th century Spain... Get my point? "Happy Holidays" is not an affront to Christians, its a courtesy your non-Christian neighbours, some of whom celebrate Hanukkah, or Kwanzaa, and others of whom enjoy the secular traditions of this season, and are entitled to do so so long as it does not impinge on any one else's rights. But this poem, on the other hand, is an affront to all non-Christian Americans. It makes me mad that some people would use this season to try to wedge people apart - how's that for values? I think the right thing to do would be to bring everyone together with the message that we can enjoy this season, one and all, regardless of our personal beliefs. And note that I made no mention of my own personal beliefs here - they're personal. I'll just let you guess. So Happy Holidays to all, no matter what you celebrate! We all deserve a holiday this year!
