Daily Times Does Story on Christine Sheddy

I received a call the other day from a reporter from the Daily Times. She wanted to ask me about the Christine Sheddy case. I told her I would be happy to provide any information that I had, and be of any help that I could.

I shared with her my disappointment with the MSM in not giving the story the attention that I believe that it needs. She apologized and told me she has been hired since Christine went missing and had just heard about it.

I told her it was my belief that the story’s the reporters stay on top of are the crimes that get solved. She agreed.

She, like I, is concerned why the Mayor of Pocomoke is also the lead detective in this case. She said that it seemed like a conflict of interest. I agreed that I felt this way as well.

Mayor McDermott has made it clear throughout this investigation that Christine was not a virtuous woman, and told me from the beginning that he believed she had ran away from her life. I strongly disagreed with him, then and now. I believe that Mayor McDermott and other officers based their opinions of Christine’s character on the characters of Tia and Jr., the character of her boyfriend, and on her Myspace page. All of which didn’t paint her in a becoming light. However, does the company one keeps determine the amount of money the county spends on trying to find you if your missing.

If your kids go missing, do you have to convince the police that they are really great kids, show them their high school grades, their resume? Mayor McDermott stated that she was a sponge on society, that she didn’t have a work record. How sad.

Gosh, I hope my daughter never comes up missing. Especially, in this economy. She’s had four years of college and there’s no jobs to be had. I would hate to hear what would he would say about her.

The four ponds that are less than a mile away from the Byrd Road farm needed to be dragged. A well organized grid search needs to be conducted on all surrounding properties.

Det. McDermott stated that the property has been searched, but neither Jenny Hopkinson, the Daily Times reporter, or myself have been able to establish from him exactly when the searches were conducted, how many people were involved, exactly what areas the search covered, and how many searches actually took place.

I would still like to see an organized community search conducted, and the nearby ponds dragged. I think it would be very healing for the family and the community. We all need to know that we have done all that we know to do.

Thank you Jenny for getting Christine’s story in front of the eyes of more people than just those of us here in Pocomoke. It is my prayer that you will conduct update interviews with all of those involved, including maybe the last people who saw her.

Again, count me, my spouse, and our german shepherds in on any search efforts. This is another crime in and of itself if there have been no real efforts to locate this person. Is this possibly another sad commentary on our supposed civilized society whereby people who are not deemed worthy by whatever criteria the earthly people makeing the judgements are not treated with the same dignity as those who are deemed "worthy".
I hope a genuine effort will be made to put this to rest and bring some closure to the missing ladies family.

Great news! Its about damn time this case got some attention outside the blogosphere and maybe the publicity will shame law enforcement into doing something other than say nasty things about Ms. Sheddy to justify their apathy in finding her.

There are SEVEN Cold Cases in the City of Salisbury right now. Most recently was the young prostitute found murdered in an Industrial Park where her body layed, (sp) for about a month before it was found.

The Daily Times has done NO FOLLOW UP on that case either. Chief Webster tried to have me arrested over this case, partially because I had too much inside inforation but mainly because I have a photo of the dead woman's body.

Don't think for a minute that the MSM is going to follow up on anything, especially the Daily Times. Granted, I don't get their paper any more but I can assure you they haven't followed up on anything. It's not their style to go up against the Mayor or the Chief of Police.

So what is the process to get a search party organized? Who has the expertise, that is willing to become involved, to coordinate this thing? I guarantee if someone qualified steps up to lead this effort there will be many out there willing to volunteer in some capacity.
How about Saturday December 6? Can it be done?

I hope this will not be yet another example of us expressing something on this blog, yet apathetic when it comes time to walk the walk----like the (poor) example of the leadership in our city government. This is why people get away with things, because they know that though we are disgruntled and mad as hell about how the status quo continues to run amok, and trample over the masses, we don't see the process through.
I am ready to stand up and hit the ground running.

I am encouraged that help is on the way---but people, we have to make the effort start by helping ourselves, too. Get involved in something, anything you feel passionate about.

Perhaps someone in the Town/City/County was involved and it was covered up? Ted Kennedy comes to mind, if'n you know what I mean.

Who's looked into the background of "Jr." dude? He has a long history in Wicomico County and elsewhere--he's certainly no stranger to crime of the most heinous kind. If his name is involved, somebody better start looking real hard into it.

I get the drift---all the more reason to be fired up and get off our collective duffs and at least make the effort.
This is the anniversary of Jonestown. What the hell are we drinking that allows us to be so complacent?

Mcdermott is a bigot and needs to read his book a little closer. Thy shall not judge thy neighbor. Spend a little time in Romans as well. We dont just work cases for the victim but the family as well. I will say there appears to be a bit of conflict of interest. We dont work cases based on family income. Mike what a easy way out she ran away from her life!!! Get real has she not shown up on any off line searches. Is she is this smart this thug as you have labeled her. Mam contact the Vidoc Society in Philadelphia Pa. They work for free and are just slightly better investigators.

Hmmm fine line we tred. Whenever an investigator judges his victim he or she will have a hard time looking openly at the case. There is victomology and it does play a role in developing leads. Not deciding if she is going to hell or not. Pass the case to fresh eyes let them take a shot at it. Not very nice to be judged in the media is it mayor.

Granted Christine did not have much of a work record on paper, but she did have a few jobs. She worked for the family business and did office work. She didn’t get paid for it, but rather she was working to compensate for the room and board my mom and Steve provided. And cared for her three kids by herself. Also, right before she disappeared, she expressed that she was very uncomfortable staying at that house in Pocomoke. And her and Levi were on again off again for a year or so. She kept him involved in her life because they had two children together, and she had faith he would help her one day. I just bothers me that some people imagine her other than she was. She had a huge heart and would help anyone if they needed it. Through life’s challenges she would try and smile through them. She lived in a clean house, cooked, worked for her keep, took care of her kids, saw the best in people, was a good friend to many, hardly left the house, was smart and a whiz on the computer, and had a way with making people laugh. This is Christine, not some trashy dead beat.

.... well put!!! And we are definately going take your advise and contact Vidoc Society in Philadelphia Pa. We will try all avenues that may help us find our Christine.

Thank you all who care about Christine's case. Your time and thoughtfulness goes a long way. God bless you.

Snow will be here soon, make searching a whole lot harder. If there is going to be a search better happen soon.

It is too bad that it took a year for folks to realize that preacher McDermott lets his "Christian" beliefs get in the way of his real job. The Sheddy girl is not the first to have been ruled as unworthy by McDermott. Now it is apparent he is trying to cover his ass with all the smoke he is putting out as to how much has been done to find this girl. WCBI is comprised of many good investigators and how in hell McDermott got to become it's Criminal Supervisor is a mystery beyond comprehension. McDermott has always been about McDermott, a factor well known back in 1995 when WCBI was initiated. The Board of Directors need to remove this man from his position as Supervisor of WCBI and return him to his Snow Hill office where he can do less harm. Chuck Martin, Joel Todd, and all the other Board members, WHERE ARE YOU??

McDermott is too busy right now to anything but work on his next election. Will it be County Commissioner or Legislator????

He met with some folks last weekend to discuss this new move. Hopefully, they can see through his BS.

Politics doesnt have anything to do with murder.

Politics doesnt have anything to do with murder.

You are dead wrong on that one.

If McDermotts City Manager "Boss Hogg" Russ Blake told him to leave it alone, he leaves it alone.

The Pocomoke City government is involved in the local crack cocaine trade.

Anyone wonder why there has been an open air drug market in Pocomoke for over 20-years, yet nobody gets busted?

The only time you see people from Pocomoke get arrested for Crack Cociane is when its OUTSIDE of Pocomoke.

Same thing with this investigation.

McDermott has basically said Christine is a scumbag, you would never associate with those types of people and she ran off to Seattle and is into the grunge scene.

The Police Dept told the family to stop all the publicity, stay off the blogs, we will get the job done. All that has happened is the heat from the public has gone away.

We the people don't care what Christine's lifestyle was. She is a mother who was reported missing and was probably murdered, whose family needs resolution.

People keep the heat on the investigators, keep the heat on the press.

All we need for a search party is permission from the land owners. The cops on this case are not going to help, but I'm sure there are more than a few good cops who will chip in on their own time to make sure the search is done right.

God dId you miss the point. I quess i should have wrote "Politics SHOULDNT have anything to do with murder". You make alot of alogations that always seem to go un-noticed, why?

I spoke with Christines mom the other day and she said she would ask Det. Mitchell if we could do a search. I haven't heard back on that yet.
Property owners permission is an absolute must, and this is where it would be nice to have police cooperation, as I am sure that they could get the property owners to agree.
Additionally, with Thanksgiving coming up more of us might have an extra day off so that we could do the search post haste.
I'll let everyone know as soon as I hear from her.

Jennifer-
Just know that your family has alot of support out here in the community! No one who loved her kids as much as your sister obviously did would just "run off" and alot of people you don't even know pray for you all.

This is such a sad case....wjz.com in Baltimore even had it on today!! If volunteers are needed we will defiantly be there.

Mike show some hunility and do as you know how. This thing needs work and a fresh set of eyes. One never knows what will happen this family deserves closure. There ae outside resources like Sisu and allied agencies. HUMBLE THYSELF AND BE SMALL AGIAN. Good Luck to you and the family

We all know that King McDermott made his judgement on Christine and found her not worthy. We all know that the crack cocaine business is lucritive in Pocomoke. And we all know that this Jr. dude has been involved since DAY ONE with Christines disappearance. If we can connect the dots why can't the powers that be in Worcester County do the same?

Anonymous said...

Det. Mitchell has the morals of those he arrest if not worse so don't hold your breath.(I know this as FACT)
As far as the rest of the P~City government and Police (GANG!) ...THEY DO WHAT THEY WANT when THEY see fit and NO~ONE but outside investigation and indictments (federal?) will ever change that.
I am sorry one of Gods children was lost in that hellhole of a place and she may never be found do to the complete incompetence of these so called 'public servants'.
Rest your heads in peace KNOWING there is no pain in heaven for her and she will be waiting for her children.
God Bless.

You do NOT need McDermott's permission or any police department's permission to institute a search. All you need is permission from the landowner if you are doing a search on private property. McDermott is NOT God. Bypass that idiot, he is not helping you anyway.

Christine Sheddy case was on "America's Most Wanted" how much more coverage can you ask for?

Anonymous said...

both these idiots promised they would do, this they would do that. They havent done anthing in more then a year. All they have done is make false promises to this family, making it even harder on them. The facts are simple a rookie detective could figure this one out. Shit we all did the first 3 weeks of this case. Jr,Tia,levi, and levis mom joyce all denied poly tests hmmm they all refused to have their cars searched hmmmm Jr and tia moved a week or two later hmmmm. Couldnt stay at that house any longer, a little to uncomfortable for those two I guess? Point is everyone knows what happened and these idiots dropped the ball more then once. The problem is it takes a real man and someone with a set of balls on them to admit that they messed up and apoligize.Well a year has passed and i dont know about eveyone else but it is time we take action. They gave it their pathetic shot at it now we will bring this to a closure. I suggest everyone who is not caught up on the whole case go to the pocomoke tattler and find christines story. This family has been put threw enough and need to tell christines kids their mom didnt just run away from them

First of all it was on amw missing persons list on their websit not the show. Second if it was your child, mom, dad etc... wouldnt you want it everywhere?

This Jr. dude has been in so much trouble before and after Christine went missing. Everytime he was arrested or jailed, law enforcement let him go. He is either a real slick dude or he has connections high up. While in custody of Worcester County, they never figured out that Wicomico and Somerset want him. An oversight or turning a blind eye?

Let me know the location of the property and I will find out who owns it, obtain permission, and then we can move on. I'm on the damn unemployment list anyway, and have the time. Post that info here, or with Joe; he can get in touch with me. All this other drivel gets you nowhere.

How is this on america's most wanted while I NEVER heard anything about this story from any of the local no news outlets. I only found about this from this website a couple weeks ago. I was surprised a year had passed by and nothing was reported locally about it.

We have to keep yelling about this case. Other areas of the country may let people go missing but we are better than that as a community (maybe not as a goverment). Contact your politicians and express your dissatisfaction. Contact every media contact you can find localy, regionaly, and nationaly. Refuse to be unheard. If we as a people do not do this it will not be done. Who is going to do it someone in Nebraska, New York, the Mayor? No the people who really give a damn and refuse to be victims and refuse to allow others to be victimized. REACH OUT TO EVERYONE.
