Remember my article the other day on "The Bricks" project. You know, the low income housing project the City wants to dump $1,800,000.00 into. Well, even though the Daily Times did an article on it yesterday after we brought it to every one's attention, they certainly didn't do any investigative reporting on the project.
Let me ask you this. Did your home cost you $225.00 a square foot? You do know that when they give you a square foot price, in include the cost of the land as well, right? Well, it does.
That being said, when you calculate the square footage of the building, (already built) and include the land, (already donated) and the total cost of one million, eight hundred thousand dollars it comes to more than $225.00 a square foot to RENOVATE!
I don't know where this pinhead of a Mayor gets her business degree but this is simply outrageous! The Citizens of Salisbury continue to put their heads in the sand and allow this woman to railroad anything and everything she wants and this is for LOW INCOME HOUSING???????
If YOU can't afford to build your own home for $225.00 a square foot, why should they be spending this on Low Income Housing? Why is the City getting into the home rental business?
Quite frankly Ladies & Gentlemen, YOU need to make this project come to an immediate halt. I don't care if they're going to tell you they're getting grant money for it or not. Maryland is in deep trouble financially and our Politicians need to act far more responsible than this and stop this kind of spending.
They should re name the project, "The Golden Bricks" and call it what it really is. Way to go again Daily Times. Don't get into the BEEF of the articles you write, just tell everyone what the Mayor wants your customers to hear.
Oh, let's not forget that construction costs are going WAY DOWN, not up. I just love how she rides the wave and wants you to believe this is what it really costs to RENOVATE a building.

Another attempt to change how history will perceive her and her administration perhaps.
"Look, kids, at that building...it used to be one of the roughest bars in the area, then it was a brothel, then a crack house. But then, Mayor Barrie managed to get ahold of it and spend millions of tax dollars to make it...low-income housing?"
How ridiculous is that? Maybe, instead of "The Bricks" it should be re-named Barries Folly.
Who donated this house to the city? anyone..Bueller..Bueller
the guy that gave it to the city is a campaign contributor...look it up...
MAYBE SHE NEEDS A FEW THINGS DONE AROUND HER PLACE JOE.
For that kind of money I could build a real nice home LOL if I could afford it.

You are forgetting that the government does as they want .
Please do not call the mayor or any gov official .
They will not listen.
They wantyou to pay your taxes and shut the hell up.
It is none of your business how much they spend.
Please send extra cash to washington dc.
Or to your local government.
Please help the rich on wall street also . they need more partys at your exspence.
If you want to give that kind of money out don't you think it could help a lot of people instead of a few? I understand historical value but that is not what I would call a historical site. It is an old brick building in a bad neighborHOOD that is all. Misappropriation of funds!
"Gee Dunsten" -- that explains a lot!
And, who is Gee Dunsten?
Shanie is going to be the first in line to get a room there.
I'll bet the Mare has another reason in mind to develope this building. I think she is going to do a bait and switch. Bait us into believing that it will be low income and switch it into something directly for her. Maybe a new city gov office building?

How much did Dunsten get to take off his taxes for this "gift" to the CIty?
Being in the construction business for over 25 years I have to disagree with your comments about costs. Land prices are NEVER figured into the building costs. And renovations can easily exceed $225. per SF depending on the condition of the building and the scope of the work. New construction is usually $120 - 140 per SF. Again, land NOT included.
Now, I can't argue with your opinion of the mayor, but I wanted to correct your information on construction costs.
IF you're charging $120.00 to 140.00 per sq. ft. on the Eastern Shore, you're a rip off artist!
Banks always look at the bottom line, including the cost of the land. Come on now, who do you think you're fooling?
Forget Shanie, this makes for a great brothel!
I bought a very modest 2000 sq ft home three years ago that was far from custom anything. The price per square foot for just the home, not the land included was $115 per sq/ft. The construction trade at the time was very busy and material prices were at all time highs. But three years later, things should be back to reality.

Didn't she have city employees do work around her house recently?
why not have the ones that will benfit from this do the work, they are all low incone and will fit right in, sweat for what you want, stope making it easy for them
This is a building in need of a wrecking ball and bulldozer
304pm is somewhat correct Joe, that would of been the price a few mounths ago for NEW construction, renovation can be more, but def. NOT for low income housing where careless renters come and go....
Banks look at the whole price but cant be compared with construction pricing.
hip.boots
Why doesn't the city council just sell the property to Sapoa and take the money they get to buy other buildings around town. Then they can become their own Sapoa, and we'll all be happy, because we will no longer have to pay taxes to fund the mayor's schemes.
But, how can anything be stopped with the continual 3 to 2 voting of the council?
This will go thru just like all the rest of the outrageous spending of our tax dollars.
We have to wait to vote them out in the spring. For many projects, it'll be too late.
You can't be opposed to this project without being a "the r word". It's just like having the slots for education. They think "it'll" pass cause you label it "for the children". Well isn't the lottery supposed to go for the kids? Show us where it has.
It's all in what they label it.
(you can't be opposed to bho without being r*****.)
If this to be for low-income housing...all the money will be thrown out the windows within a year after people have moved in. No one will take care of it. To them it'll be a roof over their heads. This woman wants to see how much she can spend before she's out of the GOB
