Club for Growth Releases Two New Ads In MD-01

Reveal’s the Truth about Kratovil’s Liberal Record

Washington – Today, the Club for Growth released two new ads in Maryland’s First Congressional District. The $200,000 ad buy will run on broadcast television in the Baltimore and Salisbury markets (watch ads here).

Both ads are designed to tell voters in Maryland-01 just how liberal and out-of-touch Frank Kratovil is on economic issues. The first ad talks about Kratovil’s support for universal healthcare which could cost taxpayers billions of dollars and put personal healthcare decisions in the hands of government bureaucrats. The second ad informs voters about Kratovil’s cozy relationship with Big Labor. Kratovil has taken thousands of dollars from big labor unions whose top priority is passing the infamous “Card Check” bill which would strip workers of their right to a secret ballot election. It is clear that Frank Kratovil is too liberal for Maryland’s First Congressional District.

“Frank Kratovil is trying to hoodwink voters into thinking he is a moderate, but it is clear from his positions that he is a liberal who will march in lockstep with Nancy Pelosi if elected to Congress,” said Club for Growth President Pat Toomey. “If voters in Maryland-01 want to be represented by someone who will fight for lower taxes and greater economic freedom, then Frank Kratovil is the last place they should turn. Instead, they should vote for State Senator Andy Harris who has a proven record of fighting for taxpayers.”

You use the words "liberal record" like it's a bad thing.

I'm still making up my mind. Is it true that Andy Harris was one of two to vote against requiring insurance companies to fund cancer screening? Also, was he the only one to vote against cleaning up a toxic waste site? If so, he must be getting lots of funding from insurance companies.

I thought you guys were all opposed to "outsiders" jumping into this race? The Club For Growth is a massive lobbying group that might explain some of Mr Harris's environmental votes. And for anon 12:28, you nailed it exactly. Somehow, I doubt this comment will see the light of day, though.

11:58 Yes... Why is "liberal record" used? Being called the "most liberal senator" certainly hasn't hurt Obama. In fact, I suspect it's part of why he's winning.

If people take "liberal" to mean anti-Bush, then these ads could backfire.

12:28 -- if you mean that Andy Harris voted against a government mandate that would raise the price of insurance, then you are correct. These mandates are pushed by special interest groups (usually doctors) and they raise the cost of health insurance for everyone. With the price of health insurance so high in Maryland, you should thank Andy for trying to make it more affordable.

I'm curious how Mr. Albero can seemingly be backing the "upcoming" run of noted liberal and Democrat and Kratovil worker Jim Ireton for Salisbury Mayor, when he's clearly at odds with the Dems. It seems to be a hypocritical decision IF Mr. Albero decides to support Mr. Ireton if/when he decides to run. Just an observation.

The Mayoral Election is a bipartisan election.

I support Jim Ireton because, (so far) he is the best Candidate for the position.

Does it really bother you that much that I happen to believe Andy Harris is the best man for the Congressional Seat?

I happen to believe Andy has the most experience and I believe he will do a better job than Frank Kratovil.

Now, does that make Frank a bad guy? Hell no. Frank is a great guy and in time he will do well in politics. Who knows, there's a chance rank could pull it off and win, just like there's a chance Jim Ireton could lose running for Mayor.

Joe Albero is not the answer to right and wrong. I simply believe the people I happen to support are the best candidates for the positions available.

Anon 12:28

The bill you are referencing is a bill that required COST SHARING payments by all insurers for a certian procedure. It was another back door stabb at passing health care mandates by the state that was just unecessasry. Glad to know Harris had the guts to vote against it. We don't need anymore reasons to increase our insurance costs.

anon 11:58 what makes the word liberal a bad thing is politicians that by their words or deeds sound like they are anti- american. People like Harry Reid who said the surge has failed and the war is lost. Like John Murtha who said our troops were murderers(by the way all soldiers from that incident were exonerrated). It is liberals who complain about wire tapping of foreign terrorist trying to say that americans were being wire tapped, but not a single case could be found.

Joe,

Your comment here at 3:39 is why I keep coming back. Although we differ on politics, I know you sincerely mean that, and it is refreshing.

Anon 1228 why don't you attend the fundraiser Mike Lewis is hosting this Sunday and ask Andy yourself? Nothing like getting the facts from the horses mouth.

8:39 -- anyone who wants to ask Andy a question doesn't need to go to the Lewis fundraiser. Andy has been in Salisbury almost every week it seems over the past couple months. I'm sure he'll be here often until the election. You can see him waving signs, going door to door, talking to groups, etc. He really shows he cares about the Lower Shore. If someone wants to ask him something they have plenty of opportunities to do so.

If you want to ask Frank Kratovil something, though, good luck. He's been down here, what, twice in the past few months?
