When will we wake up?

As the weather changes, I find myself seeking relief from sinus problems by using some form of OTC medication such as Claritin D. Unfortunately it usually leaves me awake at 3:30 or so in the morning which makes for a long day. I do what I can to make the best of it by catching up on my reading and staying up on my current events.

Today I was reading my comcast home page and came across this little tidbit of information.

http://www.comcast.net/articles/news-general/20080912/US.Venezuela/

As I read the article, I couldn't help but wonder how many millions - or billions - of dollars we send to these little piss ass countries every year to prop up their economies.....yet ours is in the toilet. There are many, many countries throughout this world to whom we send hundreds of billions of taxpayers dollars annually yet they spew this poison about our country. I really don't give a sh*t which administration is in office in our country since both major political parties have been colossal disappointments and are riddled with corruption. Nor do I care whether or not anyone else agrees with the trash being shoveled by these countries about us.

I know there are people out there who feel that we are a wealthy nation and are of the twisted belief that we have some obligation to tax our people into oblivion in order to continue this outflow of money - even though we don't have it to spend. Folks we have American children going to bed hungry in some parts of this country. We have kids in the mountains of West Virginia, Kentucky, and Tennessee who don't have shoes......yet we continue to send our hard earned money to other countries just to have them expel our diplomats, or disrespect us openly.

I believe it is past time we forced our govt. to listen to what WE say. It's time to turn off the money faucet to all other nations. To close our borders and immediately and permanantly remove illegal immigrants from our country. Develop an effective system which would permit people to immigrate from other nations legally - in a controlled manner. Build our military back up to the point that we can defend our nation. Make English the official language of the U.S. Shrink the size of our federal govt. until it is in compliance with the Tenth Amendment to our Constitution. In fact, shrink every facet of our govt. until it is in compliance with our Constitution. That would allow us to drastically reduce taxes and permit our economy to grow and guarantee that our way of life would be preserved for our children and grandchildren. Every year that goes by brings us closer to the point of no return. We either make a stand as free Americans or we continue to let this nation slip into the icy grip of Socialism. What's it gonna be?

Is it ok to bail out investment firms and Fannie and Freddie and have taxpayers pay for that? When the salaries of the top executives have been in the millions of dollars? Why should taxpayers keep businesses afloat that screw the American middle class in the quest for the capitalist dream? As with any business, if it fails, it should be allowed to fail and we live with the consequences. Sending dollars to the country where people live on less than $1.00 a day is not unreasonable. Spending millions to bail out companies that pay hundreds of thousands of dollars in salaries is not.

I guess I'm moderating in my old age, but I have to make a comment about our support of foreign countries. Yes we do offer them financial help, but it's not like they are living the "life of luxury" we would all like to have. Some of these "third-world" countries are in a real shit storm, and if we didn't help, their populations would be destroyed by disease and corruption. I think we, as Americans, owe it to the world to try to help the downtrodden.

Now, that being said, I also think that poor Americans deserve more help than they are getting, but handouts of cash and perscription drugs are not the answer. Education is the answer, and no amount of money can guarantee the internal drive it requires to educate one's self.

Hey Anon 9:45

Don't get your panties twisted up, alright? I never thought it was OK to bail out Freddie and Fannie. But it is NOT ok to send my money to another country without my consent. We have issues here at home that need attention. I really don't care about how much people in other countries live on. When you take money from me you are taking from my family to give to people in another country. This is how I see it. If you want your money to go to another country.....THEN FRIGGIN' DONATE IT! Charity must be given freely if it's truly a charity. I support St. Judes and many others. There aren't many benefit auctions at which I can't be found. I do that freely. But don't presume that it's OK for my hard earned tax dollars to be given to other countries when we have wounded Vets that don't receive proper care.

It all DOES need to stop and we do need to clean house but it needs to start with a grass roots effort. Local Govt. upward. It's the voice of The People that needs to be carried forward and their will carried out. Regardless of party affiliation and without interference from lobbyists, large corporations, or special interest groups. They've had their way for too long and look where we are!

If you can't change where you live you'll never change things on a national level. Wicomico County and Salisbury's problem is it has to many cry babies that won't stand up for themselves they want everyone else to do it for them. Then they want to cry some more when the change doesn't come. You can't wish for change, you have to work at it. Get off your dead asses and do something about the things that don't suit you otherwise, shut the hell up and live with what you have created.

I work for this lousy CITY gov't where a raise is not given. I drive for the CITY in non working equipment that needed to be replaced before I started working here. I love my job but hate the politics of the people "running the show"...hopefully when you-know-who gets out of office maybe by a pray will get someone who really understands "our" needs!!
