5K Walk/Fundraiser

Dear Friends,

On behalf of the Association for FrontoTemporal Dementia, I am planning a 5K walk/run October 18, 2008. Frontotemporal dementia is the progressive deterioration of the frontal and temporal lobes of the brain. FTD is not a disorder that anyone would choose.

FTD is a form of dementia that occurs at a very young age- typically around age 50.
Although it does not cause memory loss, it does impair other brain functions such as language, behavior, emotions and judgment.
There is no treatment or cure for FTD.
FTD is a rare disorder, and pharmaceutical companies seldom invest major research dollars into the development of an effective treatment.

My dad was diagnosed with FTD approximately 4 years ago. My family has gradually watched his behavior, language and function decline without hope for a cure. Watching my father change over these past four years has truly been the hardest experience of my life. To honor my father and to raise support and awareness to the FTD cause, I am holding a 5k event, Pace for Pick’s, at Delmar High School. The money raised will go to the FTD Drug Discovery Program in the hopes of turning treatment into a reality.

I am writing today to ask you for your help in making this event a success. Prizes will be awarded in each age group to male and female participants that finish with the fastest times. There will also be a raffle with drawings for prizes. Any donation, gift cards, goods or services you can provide would be greatly appreciated. All proceeds will go directly to the Association for Frontotemporal Dementia.

Best Regards,

Erin Budd
