Republican Women Diss The Oprah!

This was in the Miami Herald Monday morning. I have to agree with the GOP Ladies in FLA. The Oprah is using her power to ignore the greatest Feminist story since the Suffrage Movement!

Oprah disses Palin, so Florida GOP women boycott Oprah

Sarah_palin_2The Florida Federation of Republican Women, miffed that Oprah Winfrey refuses to invite Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin on her show, will be boycotting the show and cancelling their subscriptions to Oprah's "O" magazine, the group announced today.

"Women in Florida helped build Oprah into the icon she is today,'' said Linda Ivell, president of the federation. "With our Republican sisters across the nation, we have collectively enjoyed her entertaining, informative and female-driven programming as we raised our families and became more empowered as women. We are deeply disappointed in Ms. Winfrey's decision to sit out the greatest political moment in the history of women since suffrage."

She said Winfrey's decision is "an abuse of her power –gained on the backs of our patronage of her advertising empire."

Obama_and_oprah_in_scWinfrey is an active supporter of Democrat Barack Obama and hosted several events on his behalf in key primary states. She has also hosted a fundraiser in her home and has drawn many new volunteers to the campaign. But she said in a statement: "At the beginning of this presidential campaign when I decided that I was going to take my first public stance in support of a candidate, I made the decision not to use my show as a platform for any of the candidates."

Winfrey had invited Obama on her show twice before he announced his decision to run for president -- in January 2005 and in the fall of 2006 shortly before he announced his candidacy. She never invited Hillary Clinton during the primaries and she said Friday she would "love" to have Palin on her show, but only after the Nov. 4 election.

I am working very hard to end womens suffrage. I think it it wrong for them to have to have suffraged so much oh these many years. (Pelosi/Tilghman, etc.)

While mayor of Wasilly, Palin and her police chief actually charged the victims of rape between $300-1200 each for the police to perform the forensic tests necessary to prosecute their case saying the taxpayer shouldn't bear the burden. Nice to you know women can count on Palin to do the right thing.

it shows Oprah is all about color. when it comes right down to it i think you will find it that way across the board.

Fair is fair. Why should she have Palin on when she hasn't had any other candidates on during the actual race? I don't get this story. Apparently the Republican women of FL forgot to take their meds.

there is nothing feminist about Palin. She is the anti-woman. Revoke Roe v. Wade? Step back in the WRONG direction. Wake up, Eastern Shore!!!!!!!!

Just as Joe only posts the Republican side of things as is his right, so can Oprah. What is the difference? FOX news is a republican news show, CBS is a democratic one. It is impossible for anyone having a mind to be totally “Un-biased”. One says Palin sold the Jet on Ebay, another says she sold it privately at a loss. One says Palin fired the Governors Chef to save money, another says she moved the chef to another government body and charges the state a per-diem when she’s at home. We never get the whole “unbiased” truth. It is our job to listen to all accounts, think about which one makes more sense as the truth, and consider it accordingly. To those wanted to force their way onto other peoples shows and sites, GROW UP!

Oprah has a talk show - an entertainment venue. She is in charge, and so she gets to decide who she feels like talking to.

Anonymous said...

Yes she gets to decide who is on the show, and viewers get to decide whether they are going to watch or not. People forget that while we have freedoms in this country, we also have the right to respond to other people's decisions. Freedom of speech does not mean freedom from consequences.

Regarding the post by Richard , I could not have said it better. This is only a talk show, not a public forum. Get a life.

The republican powers are so excited about Palin because they see another puppet to be controlled. They would love to have her as president to manipulate like Bush.

You can put lipstick on Sarah Palin, but she is still Bush in a skirt.

I watched an interview yesterday with Gayle (Oprah's best friend) and she said Palin never asked to be on the Oprah show.
So get over it!
Something someone is stirring up which is not accurate to get people to feel sorry for Palin.
She's a strong woman on her own, she doesn't need you feeling sorry for her!

It's a BLACK thing....

And I'm not saying this with disrespect.

Oprah is a TALK SHOW HOST!! She is not a journalist, she is not a politician, she is not anything at all other than a rich person who has a toy.

Who realy cares who she has on her show? She is unimportant, and if she feels Palin is the same, so be it. Its not like anyone is going to stop watching her show, and if they do, it will not hurt Oprah and her bank accounts in the least.

Concentrate on the damn issues people. The distractions created by non-stories like this is exactly what most of "them" want from us.

Dont' prove to them once again taht we are all a group of dumb, scared monkeys.

Oprah? Jeez.....

I disagree totally.
I don't think RACE has anything to do with it...and I'm so sick of everything about this election being about race.
The Democrats have cried racism and the Republicans have cried racism as well.
Both did it at times when RACE was not even involved.

No wonder nothing gets done by our elected people...the CITIZEN's focus is on RACE...not the real problems of this country...so how can anyone blame members of congress and a President for not getting anything accomplished?

Wake up people. There are many nationalities in our country now.
We are an immigrant nation!
It's not going to change.

Stop being so WHITE that you can't see beyond your own WHITE color....that coming from a WHITE person.

12:09 OK if Palin is Bush that must mean that Obama is Jeremiah Wright, Bill Ayres, Bernadette Dorn, Saul Alinsky, Harry the war is lost Reid, and San Fran Nancy Pelosi. All of whom are 50 times worst that Bush

Here is Joe with his spin again!

The simple story is that Winfrey was an active supporter of Obama BEFORE Palin was announced.

Get it right...

Ref. 10:13, a feminist! Lets hope not!! Who wants a women to kill her unborn child on one hand and want more rights for enemy combatants!!! Feminist are such a contradiction. Palin is an AMERICAN WOMEN. She makes me hum the song.....

3:11,

Alright, weirdo. Why don't you go back to calling for an American theocracy and telling people what they can and can't do with their own bodies and in their own bedrooms.?

You and Osama bin Littleton should get a room

I stopped watching and supporting Oprah a long time ago. She got rich off the backs of Americans and then spends millions in other countries. She is a hypocrite & has shown her true colors!!!!!

Oprahs a very smart woman

Oprahs a very smart woman!! She has the right to do as she wishes. Not having either candicate on her show is a darn good choice. Because it's a free country she can support whom ever she pleases. I'm sure she's not the least bit worried about any consequences. Grow up people!!

3:11-- You've hit the nail on the head.

Palin makes me want to sing the song too...

American woman, stay away from me
American woman, mama let me be
Don’t come hangin’ around my door
I don’t wanna see your face no more
I got more important things to do
Than spend my time growin’ old with you.
I don’t need your war machines
I don’t need your ghetto scenes

--The Guess Who

I think the lyrics fit her well.

10:07. I happened to live there several years ago. You need to get your facts straight before shooting off your mouth off. The victim's never were charged anything. This is the liberal media swaying your belief's just as the wind sways a flag...grow a backbone and learn your facts. Stand for something besides what the media tells you to believe.

cobra communist,
You seem pre-occupied with me. Get over it, you're not my type. I like real Americans!
Go do whatver you wish with "your own body in the privacy of your own bedroom!" May I suggest a 44 magnum?

My, aren't we getting a bit uncivil here?

Oprah can't win here. People seem to have the ridiculous notion that all women should be thrilled and vote for Palin for VP because...well, because she's a woman. So Oprah gets slammed for not backing Palin, and she gets slammed for backing Obama because of the black thing.

Who cares what Oprah thinks, anyway?

This is not a great Feminist story. Palin has never worked to move any woman forward except herself. She was chosen for a look and a story.

Oprah is not having Palin on because she is not having ANY of the four ticket candidates on, period, during the election season. She said because she personally is supporting Obama, she does not want her SHOW turned into a campaign platform for ANYone.

And it's her show -- it's not the news. Just like this is Joe's blog, as someone said.

Get a grip, get a clue.

You people damn Barrie Tilghman for things that Palin has also done, but you celebrate her. Great, so let's have Barrie Palin run the country just the way they've run their towns...like 10:07 said, charging rape victims for their investigation kits!
