Question of the Day, Tue 9/16

Today is Hurricane Katrina National Day of Prayer and Remembrance.

Royal Plus offices are right down the highway from my shop. I remember loading up all my baby and kid gear in the back of the truck and taking it to Royal Plus' waiting tractor trailer . . . crib, bassinet, clothes, onesies, diapers, wipes, etc. I actually had to wait in line to drop off my things. I felt overwhelmed by the community's outpour of generosity.

What did you do to help with the Hurricane Katrina efforts? Did you or someone you know go south to help?

While I feel for those who lost loved ones and some lost everything they own, I have a fundamental problem with the government giving tax money to rebuild that area. New Orleans is 30 feet below sea level. What did they expect to happen? It was bound to flood and will most definitely happen again. It's still below sea level.

I only hope that when, not if, it happens again, the government does not give away more taxpayer money. If the residents chose to stay and rebuild, then they should take full responsibility for the consequences in the future. The same goes for people building million-dollar homes on the beaches and crying because a storm surge or hurricane destroyed their homes. People need to take responsibility for their own decisions without expecting the government to bail them out when they get in trouble for their bad choices.

Bring on the slams...

Tim Spies, our very own member of MENSA, USN retired, RN, and seeker of justice for the citizens of the city of Salisbury, packed up his gear and headed south to do what he does best, provide aide to those in need. He gave selflessly. What he got in return from the administration and citizens of Salisbury is shameful. In the event you don't remember, he ran for city council with only the good of the people in mind, he received lies from the mayor printed in the Daily Times to defame and slander his good person. He got the election stolen from him by the likes of Richard Insley and his follwers, SAPOA. This is how Salisbury thanked a hard working member of their community. A member that continues, to this day, to work hard for the betterment of the place we call home. Those of us that cast our vote for Tim knew today would be a better day had he been elected. Instead we got Gary Comegys and Louise Smith.

Still doing it. You can too. Many organizations are still in the Gulf region helping to rebuild lives, businesses and homes. You can help, go down there and help instead of vacation. Check into it. The work is far from done.
