Russia, Georgia, and the U.S.

What do you think Russia's true intentions were when they invaded Georgia? Do you think that it has anything to do with the fact that Georgia hosts a key oil pipeline that supplies the west? Remember.....Russia uses a lot of oil too. Do you think that since Georgia is our ally we have an obligation to come to their aid militarily? Do you think that the fact mentioned above relating to oil will have anything to do with any decision we make relating to any military action by the U.S.?

Georgia has been getting a lot of support from Iran lately. If I recall, there is some sort of military assistance going on there.

The ruling part in Turkey (who almost got thrown out of power by their court system for threatening the state's secular constitution) has also been involved in Georgia. Turkey has Iran have been sharing high level government contacts during Turkey's current administration. It seems that when EU membership fell through, Turkey started looking East.

I think that secretly, the US administration would rather have this area be controlled by a relatively stable Russia than the highly polarizing Iran, who has been causing trouble with us and our allies all over the middle East.

An axis from Pakistan to Turkey/Georgia would be a huge swath of hostile territory from the heart of the middle east right to Europe's doorstep. Not to mention there's lot of natural resources in this area that are untapped, and it's the perfect place for even more large pipelines for Europe's consumption.

At least with Russia in control, we are positioned against rational people who we can deal with. Iran's brand of Islam glorifies martyrdom and preaches for the acceleration towards Armageddon. They feel their people are worth more dead than alive.

The pipeline you are referring to is anything but "key". Additional capacity exists in alternative pipelines originating in Azerbaijan which can be used to transport the same oil to the west.

I doubt that we would confront Russia in their back yard over this.
Russia has "big boy toys" too. I don't think we want a nuclear showdown over this.

Besides, we have wisely used our military to make our oil power play in the middle east!
It is unrealistic to expect that Russia wouldn't do the same thing in their back yard.

It would seem hollow for us to scream "foul" when we have been doing the same thing for years. ("We're bringing democracy to Iraq? Sure, we are:) Russia's being aggressive"). Those things are food for fools & the ignorant masses, so let them consume it. Russia will do what it thinks it needs to do. Feed the rhetoric & platitudes to the masses...Let real men know that we will do what we have to do to survive, as well.

If it comes down to us or any enemy in military conflict, let us have the wisdom of Truman and use any means necessary to win and survive with least possible harm to ourselves!

Anon.0:26.....

You may be right about alternative pipelines - I don't know. But right now that pipeline is carrying 1% of the worlds oil supply. I think the Russian govt. is doing a good job of trying to hide the true reason for the invasion, but when it's all said and done - we'll all see it's about energy and power. One more thing.....what's up with this Vlad Putin guy? For a person who is no longer Russia's leader he seems to be the man in charge.

Maybe they just wanted to flex their muscle like the United States does under Bush, Didn't we invade IRAQ?? Whats good for the Goose is good for the Gander!!

Wow are you kidding me...the first poster is making up facts....Military assistance going on between Iran and Georgia? This is totally unfounded. In fact, Georgia is the United States' closest ally in the Caucuses.

For the USA to even think about getting involved as far as military intervention would be an incredibly stupid move at this time.

The Georgian's who have been armed to the teeth by USA and Israel, attacked Russian citizens who had a desire to "be Russian". After they brutalized the minority, Russia kicked some people's Aurora Borealis. The American goulag can't do EVERYTHING it wants to regular people. Lucky for the world, there are still Russians around who will not only stand up to the the Facist Dictatorship of Zionist Government, but they will stand up and shove it ALL THE WAY down someone's throat! Go Russians. God, grant us the priviledge of becoming Russian communists instead of the victims of a traitorious Facist Dictatorship. And God, I really hope this is truly anonymous!

It is VERY easy for thy government to determine the point of origin of anything put on the internet. I would expect some official inspection if I were thee.
But even if thou aren't detected as a traitor by thy government, thou insulted God's chosen people and assailed God's plan for their homeland in Zion. Thou f***** up royally, thou enemy of America, Israel and God! Thou may hide from thy government and the Israeli secret service, but thou cannot hide from almighty God!
And God is quoted as saying, "I will bless those who bless Israel, and I will curse those who curse Israel!" I imagine when God curses thee, thou are pretty much screwed;just ask Hitler....I guess you love Hitler much as you love Russia and the sons of Hagar who would overrule God's will in Zion.
