Who's Running For Mayor Of Salisbury?

The other day I announced that there would be an announcement as to who would be running for Mayor in the upcoming election. I'm sorry to say that the announcement didn't happen and it didn't for a good reason.

Considering yesterday's event was more about the politicians who are in the Congressional Race, being the honorable person this particular person is, they chose to hold off their announcement until a later date.

I respect that move and will honor their request to hold off saying anything at this time.

That being said, it brings me to this question? Don't ALL of you find it interesting how many of the people claiming they might run for Mayor have absolutely NOTHING to do with local politics until they announce their intention of running? You don't see most of these people showing up at Council Meetings for years at a time, like they're actually interested in making a difference!

I think that says a lot about who might step up to the plate and I think ALL of you should think that one out very seriously by the time you go to the Polls. Are they really "in the know" or are they simply popping in at the last minute because their ego's get the best of them?

I want to know I can trust someone I'm voting for. Look at the Congressional Race, seriously. Senator Andy Haris has a track record you can review and challenge, Kratovil has none. Andy Harris has been to the Eastern Shore, Lord knows how many times but it's been a LOT! Kratovil waits till events like yesterday. It's a no brainer for me. Who have you seen attending City Council Meetings the past few years on a regular basis? Who was Louise Smith before she popped up into the scene when the City Council Race was going on?

You see, having involvement BEFORE you announce you're running for a position means a lot. So consider yourself educated and THINK about this the next time you go and vote for someone. Don't just vote on them because they're good looking or they're your neighbor. Do what's right for everyone.

It looks like we're going to have to wait till September before we know who's going to announce their run for the Mayor's Seat.

It would be nice to have somebody that has sat on our side of that table and has been called names and or retaliated against.

It doesn't have to a member of the dirty dozen, but someone who knows what it is like to be part of the public arrogance that has been expelled from a few council people. Past and present.

Once they get our vote we are quickly forgotten. That must change.

No Johnny-Come-Lately will get MY vote!!!

Louise Smith taught ME that!

She was supposed to bring something fresh and new. All she brought was a sneakier version of Mike Dunn and his pretense.

I don't have what it takes to run a recall campaign, but I'd sure sign a REAL petition on her. Maybe get some signatures on my street. She is a DISGRACE!

Joe,

Your absolutely right! When I ran for City Council in my district in Pocomoke I had been going to Council meetings for a very long time. I found it absolutely unbelievable that the two women who ran against had never been to any of the council meetings I had been to in the past, and I found it unbelievable that the woman who won had only been to one the last one before the election.
People who are not involved in the process have absolutely no business running for an elected position.
However, because this woman won, goes to show exactly how stupid people are that when a candidate goes door to door to make their pitch to the public for their votes that the public doesn't even take this into consideration.

A recall is a lot of work, and unfortunately many that complain aren't willing to beat the streets and get the job done.

We just need to get a more open majority on the council, out with shanie, while at the same time elect a mayor we can trust to make the necessary changes for a more open and efficient city administration and demanding accountability from department heads.

If we can get that majority, Gary and Weasel will no longer have a title other than council person. With the right council majority we will have new president and vice president of council. I would support the recall however we will soon need to start focusing on the election and that is going to be a lot of work in itself. if we can get the changes and a different majority vote there wouldn't be a need for a recall. The votes will still be 3 to one, just in a role reversal.
