Discrimination in the City of Salisbury?

Recently Joe posted about a meter tech losing his job because he didn't put the bags over the meters. Although, he aided in increasing the city's revenue by doing his job, issuing parking violations, it didn't matter. I've spoken with people that know this man personally and all of them have said basically the same thing. All around nice guy. Hard working, conscientious, responsible, diligent. Good family man. The city fired this guy? What is wrong with these people? Don't they realize how hard it is to find good employees that actually earn their paycheck? If I owned a business, I'd seek this guy out and offer him a job based on the feedback from those that know him.

So they fired an $8 to $10 an hour guy for failing to put the NO PARKING bags over meters. Then we have Pammie Oland making anywhere from $65k to $106k annually screwing up every single year she has been in the city's employ. One year Debbie Campbell finds $120k or $130k, I forgot which, that was owed to the city by the county. Is that the councilwomans job, to find revenue owed the city? Pammie wasn't fired, she was new on the job.

Then we have Debbie Campbell and Terry Cohen finding about $5.8 million sitting in the water & sewer fund surplus, preventing the other idiots from voting on increasing water and sewer. Is it Debbie Campbell and Terry Cohens job to know what is in the Water & Sewer surplus fund? NOPE, its Pammies job. She wasn't fired.

Then we have the auditors management letter of last December stating there was $10.2 MILLION just hanging around not posted to the General Ledger. How do you balance your books if your accounts aren't posted to the ledger? YOU DON'T. Once again, Pammie wasn't fired. She just had a baby you know, so that's why the books are all F**KED up.

My skin crawls everytime I hear Barrie say Pam just had a baby. My reply BFD. There are women in Iraq being shot at every day and they too have babies. It wouldn't surprise me to find out Barries face is the bullseye on Gloria Steinem's dart board. In one sentence she has torn apart everything women have worked so hard to achieve.

So, if you make the big bucks and you sit around kissing Barries A$$ you won't get fired no matter how badly you screw up.

If you make an honest mistake and forget to cover those meters and someones fat ass has to walk to the GOB you will be in the unemployment line faster than you can say your own name.

That's how it works in the land of Barrie.

I see you have updated this post. The comparison of the women soldiers is an excellent reference.

If I were this meter tech, I think I'd file with the EEOC. Why Pam still has a job is an excellent question.

Pam still has a job because Barrie protects her. Friend of her daughter or not, if she cannot do the job (which we all know she can't) she needs to go and I don't mean tomorrow, I mean right now.

IF THERE IS ANY ONE OUT THERE THAT MIGHT KNOW OF SOMTING TO HELP THIS GUY THEN THEY NEED TO CONTACT HIM AND HELP HIM GET JUSTICE DONE EVEN IF YOU WORK IN THE CITY OR COUNTY DEPT. WITH THE HELP OF SOME PEOPLE HE CAN HAVE A STRONG CASE !!!!!!!!!!

Pretty edgy, but absolutely on target. The excuses for P.O's failure to do even a marginally decent job of keeping track of OUR money seem to be unending. I'd like to get a look at all the resumes submitted when this job was posted a few years ago. Want to bet that hers wasn't in the cream layer?
Of course, maybe we're getting too personal here (something that Barrie and her minions never seem to complain about but use as their own whenever the mood strikes), but the down and dirty of it is that the Finance Department (under P.O.'s "expert leadership") has become a convenient place for Barrie to conceal OUR money for HER glorification.

Is there a prize to the MML member that attempts to hide the most from its citizens? If there is, Barrie's on her way to yet another award.

This is a great post! And the comments have gotten me to thinking.

Here's a MALE working under females (Pam Oland is head of Internal Services which oversees parking). The female doesn't get fired for botching her job at mega levels, but the male gets tossed for an insignificant error.

To boot, the mayor has made the baby thing an excuse for the FEMALE, but a MALE with small children is not allowed to use children as an excuse (not that he tried).

And if this is the guy I've seen, isn't he Hispanic? So the WHITE female over him can screw up as much as she wants, but the HISPANIC male can't so much as make an innocent error that costs us no money?

Speaking of MONEY! Remember Joe said this guy was racking up the revenues by ENFORCING the law? Remember this guy was getting heat for doing that? Joe said it came up in work sessions.

I don't know if the rates had to go up or not even with these additional revenues, but the end all is:

They've been hammering on a guy who's been ENFORCING the law! And bringing in money that supports his job and others!

Hey, folks! Let's go apply for a job in the city where if you screw up your job, you get to keep it and if you DO YOUR JOB, we'll FIRE YOU!

Sorry for the rant, but EarlsSister's post, Joe's posts and all these comments just got me going!

I really hope this guy gets legal help and nails this place.

It is not just with the City of Salisbury, unless you are an axx kisser you get nowhere in the County, State or City. It is no longer how experienced or how hard you work, it is all about feeding someones EGO and how much you kiss their butt!!!! Longevity and dedication mean nothing to these higher ups. GET REAL.

Joe, you have got to stay on top of this story Bill O'Reilly style. As a City of Salisbury employee I can attest to the environment of fear that Tilghman and Chambers have created - cross them in even a little way and you'll regret it. Probably lose your job. The parking meter guy was one of the hardest working guys I've ever seen. He probably spent 6hrs a day walking and he was diligent about doing a job that many would find a monotonous bore. Don't let Barry and her cronies get away with this one, or it will continue to happen to other good people. Help this guy out - stay on top of this story and lets get to the bottom of it.

I know this gentleman personally. So he made a mistake but fixed it the next morning. I know that the bags were NOT put on the meters the day before the council meetings before he was employeed at the city, his back up put them on the morning of the meeting. So why is his backup not getting some sort of punishment for this? Wasn't it her responsiblity to cover him while he left for an appointment? I think maybe a warning would have been more appropriate rather then a termination. In my opinion it's not descrimination, but it's all in who you know!

Is the council so freakin lazy they need special reserved parking? They don't want to sit in meetings to long and they don't want to walk to the building. No damned wonder most of them are so fat and out of shape. Lazy bastards.
