Breaking News!

The hoods in the kitchen aren't working so the kitchen fills with choking, eye burning smoke when they cook. The air conditioning units drip into the ceiling and cause the tiles to fall (the AC doesn't work right half the time) They have roaches, and mice that continually get into the food. The walk in freezers are filthy There's a sandwich cooler that has been broken and taped for months. The steam deck floor drains stay clogged so water collects in the floor The city turned off the water last Thursday morning due to non-payment..... The Restaurant is: Watermans Cove on the Johnson Road!

It turns out the Health Department has in fact gone in TODAY and inspected this restaurant. "The issues identified were in fact correct." They has a salad bar that was only working at 64 degrees as well and demanded that all food be destroyed in their presence.

Ladies & Gentlemen, I received information on this restaurant and immediately went to the person I trust the most and the person I can depend on the most, County Executive Rick Pollitt. I'm telling you honestly, every single time I have gone to this man with ideas, he's been receptive. Every time I've gone to him with what I feel are legitimate complaints, he's followed through with them and this proves to be yet another prime example. Forgive me Rick for making this next statement but you know what, YOU CANNOT DO THIS WITH THE MAYOR AND OR THE TILGHMAN ADMINISTRATIONS.

I received an e-mail the other day from a gentleman IN THE HOSPITAL with food poisoning and when I received this message I immediately followed it through because I can't tell you just how many times I've walked into local Salisbury restaurants lately and saw the kitchen's in complete disrepair. I have owned restaurants in the past and I know just how difficult it is to keep a good kitchen clean. However, that's the business they chose to be in and damn it, I'm sick of seeing FILTHY kitchens!

This particular restaurant used to be a favorite of ours but we had seen and experienced changes, so we stopped going, thankfully. This is a serious matter and if YOU know of a restaurant in similar condition, please don't hesitate to let us know and we'll do what we can to make sure they too are inspected, corrected and or closed immediately.

As Mr. Rick Pollitt said, "Another victory for the free press!"

My hat is tipped to the Health Departments as well for following up on this right away.

OMG!

Didn't Louise Smith just eat there?

A friend of mine thought it was her.

That's awesome maybe Sheriff Cox can go and ask for cash in lieu of shutting da joint down!

Have you ever seen how FILTHY the kitchen is at Brew River? You all think the River is polluted only by the spills from the plant. Some of that is coming from their kitchen and bathrooms that are always over-flowing.

Louise was there this week--do ya' think she ate from the salad bar?

The citizens of Salisbury City would be appalled to learn how many people have gotten food poisoning from the eating establishments in and around Salisbury. My son spent 3 days in the hospital from food poisoning and while he was there another young man was also hospitalized with the same thing. The ER doctor told me he had seen alot of food poisoning cases. It can be lethal to your kidneys.

The kitchen there, well the whole restaurant is 25 years old, still no excuse for pests and filth.

I'm sure they are over do for new kitchen equipment, exhaust fans and the whole nine yards. Commercial kitchens doing high volume are tough to keep clean, however critical violations are something the health department do not take lightly. It is a tough time to even think of costly renovations, that also is no excuse.

I never get anything off of any salad bar anywhere. 64ยบ temperatures on that salad bar is at a critical temperature abuse known as "The Danger Zone." High protein and moist products like cheese, cottage cheese to name a few, will multiply bacteria very fast. As a matter of fact when I go to a buffet I'll take my own digital thermometer and do random checks of the food myself.

Man,oh man.Graylon is gone 2 months and the whole place falls apart!

I have ate at Waterman's for years and have never experienced anything but good. Our company goes there for Christmas dinners every year and will continue to go there for years to come. The food is always prepared as ordered and the staff goes above and beyond to make the service exceptional. Keep up the good service Waterman's.

i deliver to many restaurants and there are many that are horrible. i only eat at the ones i know are clean. sorry to the rest of that have no idea.

Graylon Kitchens? LoL What up Grayland is dat U? LoL

Anonymous said...

We eat at this restaurant at least twice a month and have always had very good service. The food is always good and the restaurant is clean.
This sounds like a disgruntled employee or ex employee. How does a customer know what is going on in the kitchen and if someone is in the hospital with food poisoning how are they emailing you? Don't you think they would be more worried about their health than emailing you?
Yes Graylon has passed and if he was stll here he would be very upset reading this.
If it was this dirty the health department would have shut it down immediately.
Do any of you really believe there is this much wrong with this restaurant? If so, how have they been in business this long? Think about it!

I have worked in many rest. I will say by far Englishes (all of them) were the nastiest, filthiest, places I have ever worked. good rule of thumb is the better the food the nastier the kitchen, just the way it goes.

My daughter work at Watermans for many summers and she has always said that the hottest kitchen she had ever worked in. However, she also said it was the most professional. This is not the place to slander names but my daughter also worked in restaurants in OC that were pretty
disgusting. Hopefully this is wake-up call to the ownership at Watermans

Anonymous said...

OC does have some of the worst, for one they don't have enough full time health department inspectors to cover all of the restaurants #2 everywhere is usually short staffed #3 only open a couple months a year. we'll clean it up good at the end of the season? Bonopetite

Man that is stupid I always go to the Waterman's in West Ocean City. That place is alsome.

Have you actually read the health inspectors report? I asked this yesterday and I am sure it was a mistake that my comment was not posted. I understand this is your blog and totally your opinion, but the truth is the truth. You need to read this report and do you homework before you share stories like this.

joe albero said...

Let me explain something to ALL of you. I have received the information directly from the Health Department, hence the quotes in my Post. Believe me, their message is far more damaging than I posted, so shut up. I didn't put up this Post to close their dors. It is to educate the public of a series of serious problems there and people have been getting sick and admitted into the ospital beause of food poisoning. I didn't say it came from that restaurant. Nevertheless, get off your asses and go to the Health Department and ask for their report. It's a matter of PUBLIC RECORD!

As for all the employees and BS artits coming here defending that location, you better read their report too.

Johnny and Sammy's used to be the hotest spot in this town 30 years ago and when they closed it was so bad they needed to tear it down just like they had to do with the Shanty where Country House is now. Both places were in bad shape but considered the best in Salisbury.

Not comparing either to watermen's just tellin' what I know

Anonymous said...

They didn't tear Johnny's and Sammy's down because it was so bad. Wawa bought the property and tore it down to build their convenience store. Get it right if you're going to tell it.

my, my temper, temper...seems you think anyone that posts something nice about this restaurant is an employee....this restaurant has been around for years and has won numerous awards in the Metropolitian. I am sure if the conditions are as bad as you report they would have such the doors immediately. I have also read the report from the health department...seems someone likes to embellish!

joe albero said...

No temper problem here. Let me just tell you this though. You see, I've been blogging for about three years now and let me assure you of one thing that I know more than anyone else. You see, I moderate ALL comments here. 99% of the time when an article is through, it's through. Yeah, there might be some people that pop a comment a day later but I know BS when I see it. You own or work for this company and that's why you have a concern a day later. It's called DAMAGE CONTROL. Spin it any way you want to, the place has been falling apart for quite some time now and they/you were snagged. You're in business to feed people and there are laws and guidelines for doing so.

That being said, here's the facts. IF you or anyone else there breaks the law and I have eaten there, I want your license! You are expected to know what you're doing without excuses, period. When you have the Health Department coming in there and slamming you for violations, corrected on the spot or not, you proved to be unprofessional. Give a shit enough to do it right 24/7, and that means ALL restaurant owners! Other wise, CLOSE YOUR DOORS!

does evryone know that to be rated in the metropolitan you have to advertise with them, what a conflict of interest. (hey well rate you number one as long as you spend thousands of dollars on advertising with us), what a crock of shit, probably illegal, definitly un-ethical.

Anonymous said...

Thanks for the heads up on Waterman's Cove. I haven't eaten therein years, thank the Lord!

We visit friends in Nags head, nc, quite often. As we approach the bridge to the Outer Banks, we've noticed that all restaurants have posted on their doors 8x10 signs showing the score they've gotten from their Health Department inspections. Sounds like a great idea to me. Not only do you know how they rate, you also know that the HD has actually been there and checked it out.

Anonymous said...

It would be nice if the health department gave out scores...something like a scale from 1 to 100 where 1 being the worst and 100 being the best. Then it would be mandatory that each place post their individual score at their front door. I bet the restaurants would make damn sure they would keep their places clean.

Anonymous said...

FYI... The Health dept. did go in yesterday and they PASSED their inspection, so it must not be that bad or they would of shut them down on the spot!!!!!

Making fun of a deceased person is absolutly disgusting and you should really learn to respect others. I am not sure y Graylon was brought into this conversation to begin with.

Anonymous said...

I agree with that 100%. He has nothing to do with this whole thing. Let the man REST IN PEACE!!!!! He was a regular and loved Waterman's very much.

Anonymous said...

Louweasel was seen there before the last City Council meeting raising a ruckus about her cocktail.

Anonymous said...

All you have to do to win an award in the Metropolitan is have a bunch of people fill out the form and send it in. Best Restaurant. Best builder. Best nail salon. How hard is that. Grab a bunch of magazines and fill out the entries. Might as well save your time and just print one out on your computer.

If you knew Graylon,{I met him in 1968} you would know Graylon could find humor in most any situation.

Anonymous said...

Wow I was the one that asked if that was Grayland that posted. I did not know and am very sorry if I offended anyone when I asked if that was him.

I knew Grayland from way back, nice guy so sorry to hear this, R.I.P

that isa crock of shit. i was in there recently, the day this supposed event occured; however, i found no problems. i also work in an older rest. and our food i good, according to the outside public. i hve slways been smartenough to know that your avege rest wll have a bug or two. i know the owner personally and his entreprenuer skills are quit up to par if i could say so myself. and if you were to ask for your score from the health dept, they will give it to you. i will cntue to enjoy my fture visits to watermans.MY COLLEAGUES AND I have astrong feeling of who put out this garbge.maybe this person is just being the typical hater.get a life people.

I would be interested in knowing what restaurants have clean kitchens. I wish that the food delivery folks would let us know.
