Salisbury La cross Players Get Slap On Wrist!

The two Salisbury La cross Players that went on a drunken rampage through Salisbury months ago had their day in Court today.

Retired Judge Whitehead sentenced them to 18 months, suspended. One year probation and fined them $1,000.00 after they paid $12,000.00 in restitution before their trial.

You know what, I'm not going to say any more for right now. You can post your comments.

Money speaks volumes! what a disgrace to the legal system and our community. why have police and detention centers? the taxpayers money went to pay all the hard working individuals who solved this case and to turn around and let these college pukes walk? is this whitehead dude for real? gimme a f@#$ing break. I think this is telling more college pukes that they can get hammered and f@#$ up a town and have no more penalty than mom and dad pay their restitution!!!

My son's friend got caught shoplifting a dvd from kmart, first offense, no criminal record at all...a $15 dvd, he pled guilty, was fined $350, had to pay restitution to kmart, and got supervised probation, plus 40 hrs. community service.
Not very different from what these rotten brats got for doing soooooo much more.

The sentence sends a strong message to the college punks that spend their "wild" years in Salisbury. And the message is, if your Daddy has the dough, you can get away with anything. I'm glad to see the resitution, but it should not be just about money. These kids have not learned a damn thing.

Wonder if he maid more from the taxpayers or from the payoff from these two Assholes? No wonder he is retired. Its hard to understand how he would let them off after the night of terror they had.I still say the best way to deal with stuff like this is the whipping post.

Kind of hostile towards college kids aren't ya buddy?

anon 541 maybe he MADE enough to get hooked on phonics and learn the difference between MAID and MADE.

You people love to bitch and moan about how the white rich kids got away with nothing more than a slap on the wrist. I'm not saying they don't deserve more, but their sentence is definitely in line with the norm for such an offense. I challenge you to go sit in court a few days and listen to the sentences handed down for crimes in our area, its saddening. Drug dealers getting probation before judgement, people facing assault charges getting time served, DUI offenders sentenced to go to an alcohol class which they've already attended. Yes we are way to easy on crime but it has nothing to do with race or money.

Nobody goes to jail in Salisbury anymore ! And people wonder why we have so much crime... What we need is a few judges with the guts to stand up and say " enough of this crap " and let a few more of these jerks spend about 30 days in jail.

I don't think those guys represent the vast majority of good people we have attending and working at SSU. I want to make that very clear. Let's make that clear from the start and avoid the mud slinging and hate talk.

This was a black eye for the University, and to say the least wasn't any justice for those they terrorized. Are they expelled for good?

The judge should have reminded them that they could be dead and buried had they thrown an eight foot 4" x 4" through the wrong persons window. I'd have had my self armed and loaded in hand hearing their tirade down the block.

dinosaur,
Your right, I know someone one on a stet docket and he actually committed a crime, where's the justice for the victim, there's no justice, the victim was hurt twice! The System fails the victims! I believe one of these guys is a repeat offender on the same charges, why is he given 2 chances, so that he can do it again?

Want to hear something else? Of all these guys involved in the incident, one of them lived on Pennsylvania Avenue in Bill Jones' rental house. Jones has a "no party" provision in his lease. One of his tenants was fined $500 for the party and resulting mess. Did Jones evict him? Nope. He just let him sign another lease for this next semester. What's the point of the no party provision if he's not going to enforce it? Want to hear more? Jones' was given an exception to have 3 or 4 people in his rental, this after Tom Stevenson noted on the inspection sheet that Jones had been renting to a single man for almost 2 years. If you cease to use a non-conforming use for its stated purpose for 12 months or more, you lose the right to have that non-conforming use. So what did the Housing Board do about that? They gave him the exception, after he'd already lost his non-conforming use, thereby creating a non-conforming use. They don't have the authority to do that. But don't worry, I'm sure the City Attorney is working overtime to create a loophole for the landlord. It's being appealed to that same Board again. They recently postponed the hearing, yet again. Funny how that happens when all the neighbors rearrange their schedules so they can be present. This will be interesting when it gets appealed back to the Circuit Court again.

Judge Whitehead is a good man; Too good for this crew. Wish they had the opportunity to visit someone like Judge Horsey of old. I take some comfort knowing these trouser nuggets have no championship ring though....and the knowledge that our community may now be aware enough to handle it amongst ourselves next time (because you know as well as I do there will be a next time-and it will ba late on a Thurs. night/early fri. am. when the 2009 flowers start to bloom).

Another gift for you from SU!

How about bringing Judge Purnell from Snow Hill? I've watched him many times at random and he is quick to sentence people or them to learn a lesson. He doesn't pay attention to bullshit "I'm Sorry" that gets people off in Wicomico. He rarely gives a second chance and if he does, it is with good explaination on his part. Please Wicomico County, find a way to get him here.

I think the students were handed a fair deal for their crimes. They were embarrassed publicly, they weren't able to finish their Lacrosse season(the team ended up winning the national title), they really let their teammates down, and they paid out 13,000 in fines and restitution(if the money was the students or the their parents is really none of our business), I am not sure on their status at the university I don't even know if a decision has been made about expulsion, they have been placed on probation. I don't think wasting taxpayers money on incarceration would prohibit them from repeating their mistakes anymore than what they have already been through.

Was that all the damages that they did? A mere $12 thousand?

Has anyone filed civil lawsuits against this bunch yet?

I agree they deserve a much stiffer penalty including jail time. But please stop comlaining and get out and do something. Attend Wicomico District court for a couple days, especially Room 1 and see what a joke the local sytem is. I do my part but we all need to get together and change this. It ca not be fixed by whining or by a single person

WTF?????
What's this area turning into?
These spoiled brats caused so much trouble to the reputation of the school, and college students in general. They've gotten off (again) by paying restitution..I cannot imagine the school allowing them to graduate. Please tell us that it won't happen.

Is anyone surprised? Even with their prior records they walk because daddy can pay.

To those living in the surrounding area of SU, run out and buy shotguns, purchase shells filled with rock salt and dust their sorry asses when they come calling again this year. You know, they will be back and very soon.

SU will contribute more to this town than anyone posting a comment on this article. I dont really understand how the locals dont get this.
This was a light sentence but then again everyone gets a light sentence, ppl go to jail for 15yrs on a murder charge. If you build more jails the punks will stay in longer.

7:59. If a 4x4 comes through my window in the middle of the night while my wife and kids are sleeping and I reasonably believe a violent threat exists on my own property....that isn't going to be rock salt-it is going to be a deer slug.

I hope the homeowners replaced the windows with shatter-proof glass for this upcoming sememster's houligans.

I'm glad I'm moving out of Salisbury ASAP.

No computer jobs to speak of..
Crime rate going through the roof...
Corrupt government..
Crappy streets...
Graffitti all over town...
Drugs everywhere...
Prostitution...

The choice to move is an easy one..

Not only did they get thrown out of a good school , embarrassed a GREAT coach , let down an entire team , but most importantly they gave Nick his time to shine and that dude stepped up to the plate and whopped Cortlands BUTT!!!
Thanks Nick and Riley ... have a nice life flipping burgers.
