People need to realize that this water and sewer increase is not only for FY09. There are 5 consecutive years of increases proposed by the mayor. This is the first of many rate increases to be passed by the council. A 15%water increase and 13% sewer increase, this year alone. Supposedly these increases are to fund the replacement of aging infrastructure. How much of these funds will be diverted to the faulty WWTP that continues to destroy our river? Once the funds are diverted where will the funding come from to replace the aging infrastructure? You guessed it. It will come from the taxpayers pockets. No wonder people are leaving the city, even the slumlords are bailing out.

Not to mention since this is an election year and there was no tax hike that taxpayers will probably be informed after the next city election that taxes will go up double digits again
