This Is A New Meaning For The Word, "Tree House"

One point I'd like to make about the "Tree House" is that it will fall down soon and hopefully no children will be playing in it when it does. Why aren't property owners made to tear down structures that are in this condition?

On the road from Berlin to Assateague, I believe. Joe, you really get around!

R U makin fun oF My hOwse? LOL

As with yesterdays post, it is on private property marked no trespassing. It looks to be pretty secure and if this is where I think it is , there are no houses anywhere close for children to come from. Why should the gov't have the right to dictate to the property owner what they should do with this house if it does not pose a public safety hazard? The gov't is too involved with our lives as it is. It looks pretty stable now that the porch roof came down.

I have only one word for the above comment, IDIOT!

Joe:

The comment above was made by the Pocomoke City "housing inspector" so give em a break.

A City Councilman owns the house and only charges $125 per week to each of hte five families who live there.

Should we take pictures of your derelict Pittsville property and post them on here to? That property is an eyesore as well as a safety hazard.
Just because I have a different opinion regarding gov't involvement in peoples lives does not make me an idiot.

Excellant photo, i'm sure the old house holds lots of fond memories!!

Catch 22. If some people want the government to look the other way about houses like this, then when it falls down and injures someone, these will be the same ones that scream that the government should have a law in place to protect us. You can't win with these guys!

Does it matter that there are no children close by? What about teens in cars looking for a place to party?

I guess my thought process is archaic. When you choose to tresspass on posted property you should be responsible for yourself.
But I guess that world went away about the time good sense vanished from the earth.
Stop the world, I want to get off!!!

You are an idiot! Signs don't keep anybody out...guns do. Shoot 'em and ask questions later

That is way to funny "Boss Hogg" love the comment!!! I say your probaly right though and that's the sad fact...

Why should it be the governments place to put burdens on property owners to protect trespassers and burglars? If kids or party goers open a door or window to get into that house ....they're burglars. If they go into that house through an open door or window....they're trespassers.....period. If they had paid attention to what their parents told them they wouldn't be in there. Govt. needs to leave people and their property alone! I agree with you Mike. You're not an idiot, you're a common sense conservative with a desire to see the people run the govt., not the govt. run the people.

To charge someone for tresspassing in Wic co. you have to have veiwable signs from all sides, the trespasser has to be served a letter warning them you will press charges. Then after that if they trespass the sheriff will charge them....been there done that. In Del. if your caught trespassing they can and will put you in jail and the owner can make you leave your vehicle there, if your in one.

BULL SHIT!

I don't know where you guys come up with this crap but it's a complete line of sh!t! I own property in Wicomico County with No Trespassings signs on them and they can arrest you on the spot. As long as your signs are visible, that's all you need. Anyhow, probably more Anti Albero Blogger BS.

Joe's right. If you have a sign posted, a person can be charged forthwith. A person can be charged without a sign being posted provided that the person had previously been duly notified by the owner OR the owners agent.

I have to say that I am very disappointed by some of the comments made here. I love reading this blog but sometimes I can’t help it and I need to voice my opinion. Wanting or expecting the government dictate what someone can or cannot do on his or her own property is ok with everyone only until it is you being told what to do.

This is just an example of a deeper problem in out society today. No one wants to take responsibility for his or her own actions. If you trespass on someone’s property and you get hurt or even worse, killed. It is no ones fault but your own. You should not have been on the property, period! Especially if it has signs posted. We should not expect our government to protect us by taking liberties away from us. I can’t imagine even expecting the government to do this. What kind of idiot would actually expect the government to protect them for doing something stupid?

I see this attitude being ingrained daily into the children today. I see children doing things that are wrong and simply being taught that they do not have to take on any responsibility for their actions. Just for example, my son accidentally broke an expensive vase because he was horsing around in the house. He said, “I didn’t mean too”, and he actually figured that would be ok and he could go on about his business. Just because you don’t mean to do something doesn’t mean you shouldn’t take responsibility for it, whether accident or not it is still your fault, yet that is what we are teaching our children. I see it all the time. Ask some young people and see if I am not right. They truly believe - If you didn’t mean to do it - it isn’t your fault therefore the responsibility isn’t yours.

Yes this has everything to do with an abandoned house on someone’s property. Take responsibility for your own actions. Don’t expect the Government to step in and protect you from yourself and your stupidity. The Government should not have the power to be able to tell you what you can and cannot do on your own property. If what is being done does not effect anyone outside their property in anyway, they should be able to do what they want. Please step back and look at this closely, what next, the Government dictating what color we can paint our house?

It is my understanding that this building is one of a few remaining school houses on the shore. It has historical context to the Berlin area.It is a shame someone doesn't do something with this

Carlos65,

They knew how to build them back then.

I wonder if one could get a TIF for improving that blight, I think I spelled that wrong before I get bashed, bite me.

Myself, the tree house and that old leaning barn is what makes the eastern shore, the eastern shore.

Post it no treaspassing, government stay out of it. If someone gets caught in their during a collapse their butts were warned.

It's not always kids either, plenty of adults go out of their way and risk danger entering old homes and barns looking for bottles and old farm equiptment to steal.

I suppose beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

When I see those old farmhouses, windows dark alone in a field. I can't help but imagine what memories are held there. Clothes on the lines flowing in the breeze, children running throughout the house with glee. The smell of dinner cooking on the stove and all the life that it once could hold.

Hey, that's almost a poem...anyway, I have to agree with the property rights folks. Plus if the government makes us tear them down no one else will get have their imaginations run wild like I do when I get to see them.

Oh and by the way. I love that old crooked barn on 50. There are hardly any of the big ones left here on the lower shore.

Guess you dont live in Ocean Pines. They have so many rules there people are moving out of there and relocating to Pittsville. I have 3 on my small steet alone!

And I believe most cities dictate the condition your house should look like as well as the lawn. So yes, I would say government does dictate what goes on on your private property. Not saying it is right, just saying it is already happining.

It's places like these that make the eastern shore what it is and what it has been for year. Anyone who is born and raised here loves it for what it is. The problem is all you people who come down here from the city. Guess what...If you don't like the country then go back to the city! Because trust me when I say none of us will miss you.
