Australia Bans Same Sex Marriage

The Australia parliament voted overwhelmingly to ban same sex marriage yesterday. The vote to ban same sex marriages was by a vote of 98 - 42. Also - Australia does not recognize same sex marriages conducted in other countries.

Take a look at the Australian parliaments strong language against gay marriages:

the definition of marriage in section 5:
marriage means the union of a man and a woman to the exclusion of all others, voluntarily entered into for life.
the explicit denial of recognition of foreign same-sex marriages in section 88EA:

A union solemnised in a foreign country between:
(a) a man and another man; or
(b) a woman and another woman;
must not be recognised as a marriage in Australia.

Hopefully, some of our elected Maryland officials will take notice to our Austrilian breathren. This event serves as a warning for those who are in support of gay marriage.

US Totalitarian State Wins After All: Obama Reinstates NDAA Military Detention Provision

Just over a week ago, we wrote of the challenge [14] to Obama's NDAA totalitarian bill. Hope remained that Chris Hedges' view of the indefinite detention as "unforgivable, unconstitutional, and exceedingly dangerous" would bolster judgment. However, as Russia Today reports [15], a lone appeals judge bowed down to the Obama administration late Monday and reauthorized the White House's ability to indefinitely detain American citizens without charge or due process. On Monday, the US Justice Department asked for an emergency stay on the previous Chris Hedges'-driven order, and hours later US Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit Judge Raymond Lohier agreed to intervene and place a hold on the injunction. The stay will remain in effect until at least September 28, when a three-judge appeals court panel is expected to begin addressing the issue. It would appear the total fascist takeover of Amerika is drawing nearer by the day.

QUOTES OF THE DAY - IRAN WAR EDITION

“The corporations that profit from permanent war need us to be afraid. Fear stops us from objecting to government spending on a bloated military. Fear means we will not ask unpleasant questions of those in power. Fear permits the government to operate in secret. Fear means we are willing to give up our rights and liberties for promises of security. The imposition of fear ensures that the corporations that wrecked the country cannot be challenged. Fear keeps us penned in like livestock.”
― Chris Hedges, The Death of the Liberal Class

“War is always about betrayal, betrayal of the young by the old, of idealists by cynics and of troops by politicians.”
― Chris Hedges

“There are always people willing to commit unspeakable human atrocity in exchange for a little power and privilege.”
― Chris Hedges, War Is a Force that Gives Us Meaning

“If we really saw war, what war does to young minds and bodies, it would be impossible to embrace the myth of war. If we had to stand over the mangled corpses of schoolchildren killed in Afghanistan and listen to the wails of their parents, we would not be able to repeat clichés we use to justify war. This is why war is carefully sanitized. This is why we are given war’s perverse and dark thrill but are spared from seeing war’s consequences. The mythic visions of war keep it heroic and entertaining…The wounded, the crippled, and the dead are, in this great charade, swiftly carted offstage. They are war’s refuse. We do not see them. We do not hear them. They are doomed, like wandering spirits, to float around the edges of our consciousness, ignored, even reviled. The message they tell is too painful for us to hear. We prefer to celebrate ourselves and our nation by imbibing the myths of glory, honor, patriotism, and heroism, words that in combat become empty and meaningless.”
― Chris Hedges, Death of the Liberal Class

“The violent subjugation of the Palestinians, Iraqis, and Afghans will only ensure that those who oppose us will increasingly speak to us in the language we speak to them—violence.”
― Chris Hedges

“The rush of battle is often a potent and lethal addiction, for war is a drug.”
― Chris Hedges

“The enduring attraction of war is this: Even with its destruction and carnage it can give us what we long for in life. It can give us purpose, meaning, a reason for living.”
― Chris Hedges, War Is a Force that Gives Us Meaning

“In the beginning war looks and feels like love. But unlike love it gives nothing in return but an ever-deepening dependence, like all narcotics, on the road to self-destruction. It does not affirm but places upon us greater and greater demands. It destroys the outside world until it is hard to live outside war’s grip. It takes a higher and higher dose to achieve any thrill. Finally, one ingests war only to remain numb.”
― Chris Hedges, War Is a Force that Gives Us Meaning

Fast and Furious Report Finds DOJ Management Failures

Fourteen employees of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the U.S. Justice Department face disciplinary action for their roles in the botched Fast and Furious weapons-tracking program, according to a report released Wednesday by department investigators. No criminal charges are recommended, according to the report.
The program was doomed by a "series of misguided strategies, tactics, errors in judgment and management failures" on the part of line agents, prosecutors and senior Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives in Washington, Justice Department investigators concluded in a report released Wednesday.
The report does not recommend any criminal sanctions against individuals in connection with the controversial gun-trafficking operation.

RESPECTED STATE AND HARFORD CO. LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICIAL DIES AFTER LONG ILLNESS

(EDGEWOOD, MD) – A well-respected and beloved law enforcement official who had careers with both the Maryland State Police and the Harford County Sheriff’s Office passed away last night after a long illness.

Theodore S. Moyer, 83, of Edgewood, Md., died shortly after 7:30 p.m. yesterday. He was at his home and surrounded by family when he passed away.

Major Ted Moyer was born and raised in Hagerstown, Md. He played semi-pro football for the Browns and worked at Fairchild building planes before joining the Maryland State Police.

Major Moyer moved to Harford County in 1951 as a new trooper with the Maryland State Police. His graduating class was the first to wear the Stetson hat and the shoulder patch that is still worn by troopers. Although his assignments as a trooper changed throughout his career, he never moved from the county he loved, where he was surrounded by the many people who came to know and love him.

During his State Police career, he served as commander of the Greenbelt Post, the North East, Valley, and Bel Air barracks and of the Northern Troop. He retired from the Maryland State Police in 1981 with the rank of major. He then went on to be elected sheriff and served with the Harford County Sheriff’s Office until 1986.

After his retirement from law enforcement, Major Moyer continued his support of and involvement in the Maryland State Police. He was an active member of the Maryland State Police Alumni Association and had previously served as the organization’s president. He and his wife were faithful in their attendance at the annual Maryland State Police Fallen Heroes Ceremony, as well as award and promotion ceremonies and new trooper graduations.

Major Moyer’s service to citizens extended far beyond his public safety duties with the Maryland State Police and the Harford County Sheriff’s Office. He was a longtime youth coach who was a friend and mentor to hundreds of young people during his life. He coached many championship football, baseball, and basketball teams during almost four decades as a volunteer coach.

He was always helping people in need by providing financial or resource support. These acts of kindness were most often done without anyone other than those he helped being aware of who was responsible for the help and generosity.

Major Moyer and his wife Elaine raised three sons, David, Michael, and Steve. They enjoyed spending time together as a family and were especially fond of their four grandchildren. They instilled in their children and grandchildren the values of honesty, integrity, loyalty, commitment, and the importance of family. Their son Steve followed in his father’s footsteps. He had an outstanding career with the Maryland State Police, from which he retired as a bureau chief with the rank of lieutenant colonel. Just before his death, Major Moyer presented Steve’s son, Drew, with his State Police retirement badge.

Regardless of the rank he achieved in both the State Police and Sheriff’s Office, Major Moyer was known for always looking out for the road trooper or deputy. He never forgot where he came from and knew the importance of the men and women on the front lines of public safety service.

He is known by all those who served with him as a man who deeply loved both the Maryland State Police and the Harford County Sheriff’s Office. He is also remembered as a passionate fan of the Baltimore Colts, Baltimore Orioles, and Baltimore Ravens.

Major Moyer will be remembered for many things, including his sincere concern and compassion for the people he served. His life and career are reminders to those who knew him that if you truly want to and are willing to sacrifice your time, talent and resources, you can make a difference in the lives of others.

Media Lap Dogs In Hot Pursuit Of The Wrong Story

What we are in the midst of witnessing right now is a complete, Fukushima-style meltdown of the mainstream media.
Without these slobbering lap dogs, President Obama never would have been elected in the first place. Nearly four years after President Obama promised to ease Arab hatred of America, the Middle East burns hotter than ever. Polls show America has never been more deeply despised.

Secret Romney Tape Means We Can Finally Stop Talking About Obama's Failed Foreign & Domestic Policy!

Let's not mince words: President Barack Obama is one lucky bastard.

Last week, he got a near-total pass from the press regarding foreign policy due to what was at worst a case of bad timing by GOP challenger Mitt Romney. This week (and possibly beyond), Obama is being helped out big time by the release of a tape in which Romney inveighs against people who receive payouts from the government.

Maybe Romney could have waited another few hours after the killing of our ambassador to Libya but does anyone still think that Obama has any idea of what he's doing with regard to foreign policy?

Yet after disastrous attacks on U.S. people and places in Egypt and Libya - and thoroughly unconvincing claims by the administration that such deadly violence "is not an expression of hostility in the broader sense toward the United States or U.S. policy" - it was Mitt Romney who got tagged as having "the worst week in Washington." According to the media, Romney had finally crossed a line no decent human being ever dare cross by criticizing a sitting president while protesters demonstrated outside something like 20 U.S. embassies around the globe.

As Obama spokesperson Jen Psaki put it, Romney's willingness to criticize the president "does raise a question of whether his team is ready for prime time when it comes to these issues.”

Romney’s “Secret Video” And The Dem Politics Of “Squirrel!”

Democrats need to change their party mascot from the donkey to the squirrel. They divert the media’s and the electorate’s short attention spans with fleeting, fuzzy objects — like the main canine character in the animated Pixar movie “Up,” who was easily distracted from his main thoughts and serious duties by every last little moving trifle.

Embassy attacks? Quick, find a squirrel! Warnings ignored? Squirrel! American troops killed by long-plotting jihadis exploiting security weaknesses? Squirrel! First Amendment sabotage by White House officials in the name of political correctness? Squirrel! Chronic joblessness, high gas prices, exploding dependency? Squirrel! Squirrel! Squirrel!

As Election Day draws nearer, the Obama campaign and its surrogates in the Fourth Estate have infested the political arena with an army of tactical and rhetorical rodentia. One week, it’s GOP presidential rival Mitt Romney’s high school hijinks. The next, it’s a heinous smear about Romney killing a steelworker’s cancer-stricken wife.

Or, it’s a hit job on multiple sclerosis survivor Ann Romney’s therapeutic horse. Then, it’s faux rage over Romney’s firm statement condemning the feckless White House response to the murders of our U.S. Ambassador to Libya and three other Americans in Benghazi.

Why We Should Be Arguing More Over The Constitution

The Constitution turned 225 yesterday, and this week will be full of celebrations both solemn and stylish. As a civics nerd of the first order, I delight in every minute of Constitution Week. I wonder, though: what are we doing when we celebrate it?

We of course commemorate a daring experiment, what author and Yale law scholar Akhil Amar calls “the hinge point of history.” We restate the purposes of the Preamble. We cheer the simple fact that the Constitution is still around. But it’s easy to forget, amidst the fanfare and rhetoric, that celebration isn’t what the Constitution actually asks of us.

THE REAL DANGER OF IGNORANCE

Academic Dishonesty

Many of the nation's colleges and universities have become cesspools of indoctrination, intolerance, academic dishonesty and an "enlightened" form of racism. This is a decades-old trend. In a 1991 speech, Yale President Benno Schmidt warned: "The most serious problems of freedom of expression in our society today exist on our campuses. The assumption seems to be that the purpose of education is to induce correct opinion rather than to search for wisdom and to liberate the mind."

Unfortunately, parents, taxpayers and donors have little knowledge of the extent of the dishonesty and indoctrination. There are several clues for telling whether there's academic dishonesty and indoctrination. One is to see whether a college spends millions for diversity and multiculturalism centers and hires directors of diversity and inclusion, managers of diversity recruitment, associate deans for diversity, and vice presidents of diversity. See whether colleges spend money to indoctrinate incoming freshmen with programs such as "The Tunnel of Oppression," in which, among other things, students call one another vile racial and sexual names in order to develop "oppression awareness."

An American Council of Trustees and Alumni survey in 2004 of 50 selective colleges found that 49 percent of students complained of professors frequently injecting political comments into their courses even if they had nothing to do with the subject, while 46 percent reported that professors used their classrooms to promote their own political views. One English professor told his students that "conservatism champions racism, exploitation and imperialist war." The "critical race studies" program at UCLA School of Law says that its aim is to "transform racial justice advocacy." At an East Coast college, an exam was found with questions such as, "How does the United States 'steal' the resources of other (third world) countries?" The answer marked correct was, "We steal through exploitation." An economics professor told his class, "The United States of America, backed by facts, is the greediest and most selfish country in the world." A Germanic languages professor told his class, "Bush is a moron, a simpleton and an idiot."

DELMAR COUPLE FOUND GUILTY OF SEX ABUSE OF A MINOR AND 3RD DEGREE SEX OFFENSE

On September 18, 2012, pursuant to a plea agreement with the State, Thomas J. McGuire, age 42, of Delmar, Maryland, and Nicole Crystal McGuire , age 28, of Delmar, Maryland, were each found guilty today by a Wicomico County Circuit Court Judge of one count of Sex Abuse of a Minor and one count of 3rd Degree Sex Offense.

At the hearing this morning, the State explained the contours of the plea agreement that it entered into with each Defendant. The plea agreement that was accepted by the court capped the active period of incarceration for each Defendant at 15 years; the State is free to ask for an additional suspended sentence for each Defendant (so long as the active portion and the suspended portion of the sentence do not exceed 35 years). In addition to explaining the plea, the prosecutor, ASA Pamela Correa, explained to the Court why the State was asking for a sentence that exceeded the Maryland Sentencing Guidelines for each Defendant.

Sentencing has been deferred for a pre-sentence investigation and for a mandatory mental health evaluation. Because each Defendant was found guilty of Sex Abuse of a Minor, both Defendants will have to register as sex offenders for the remainder of their natural lives.

The incident occurred at approximately 2:19 a.m. this morning as James Serge was operating a 2004 Suzuki Verona southbound on Hastings Farm Road just north of Old Furnace Road approaching a small curve in the road. Hastings Farm Road in the area of Old Furnace Road was closed for approximately three and a half hours as the crash was investigated and cleared.

Arizona Immigration Law Spurs Education Campaign

PHOENIX (AP) - An education campaign for illegal immigrants to remain largely silent when they're pulled over by police is being put into practice in Arizona after a federal judge ruled that the most contentious part of the state's immigration law can take effect.

Natally Cruz and Leticia Ramirez have been telling immigrants who are in the United States illegally, like themselves, that they should offer only their name and date of birth _ and carry no documents that show where they were born.

U.S. District Judge Susan Bolton ruled Tuesday that police can immediately start enforcing the law's so-called "show me your papers" provision. It requires officers, while enforcing other laws, to question the immigration status of those suspected of being in the country illegally.

Corn On The Cob, Green Beans On Menu During Maryland Homegrown School Lunch Week

Celebrate Maryland Homegrown School Lunch Week in Wicomico Schools with fresh local corn on the cob (Wednesday), green beans (Thursday) and "butter fries" (Sept. 26) -- butternut squash cut to resemble French fries, baked, and lightly seasoned with cinnamon. Fresh local fruits and vegetables have been served in school cafeterias since the start of the school year when available from local farmers.

These items are on our school menu marketed as local items, and all are from farms in Wicomico County or other Maryland counties. "Since the beginning of school, we have been serving local produce to our students based on its availability," said Eric T. Goslee, Food Services Supervisor. "Some additional items we had planned to serve fell through during the rainstorms in August."

Students in hundreds of public schools across the state will get a taste of fresh, Maryland-grown and produced food in their lunches during the fifth annual Maryland Homegrown School Lunch Week, Sept. 17-21. A statewide celebration with special educational activities and local lunch with students, farmers, and state and local officials took place at North Dorchester High School in Dorchester County Tuesday, Sept. 18, followed by a tour of S.B. Farms in Hurlock, a bison operation.

Now celebrating its fifth year, Homegrown School Lunch Week is an element of the Jane Lawton Farm to School Program, when SB 158 was signed into law by Governor O’Malley following the 2008 Session of the Maryland General Assembly. The program is designed to help educate students about where their food comes from, how it is produced, and the benefits of a healthy diet as well as to expand markets for Maryland farmers. Maryland Obesity Rate Could Double To 59% By 2030

Maryland’s adult obesity rate could more than double by 2030 if steps aren’t taken soon to reverse the course, a new analysis released Tuesday shows.
The “F as in Fat” report from Trust for America’s Health and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation says Maryland’s obesity rate could reach 58.8 percent over the next 20 years. That’s up from 28.3 percent in 2011, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
The report says a bump in obesity would likely result in rising obesity-related disease rates and health care costs. For example, obesity could contribute to 741,358 new cases of type 2 diabetes and more than 1.5 new cases of coronary heart disease and stroke in Maryland, the report says.

Sometimes it doesn’t feel like we're winning, because the corrupt media still has the power to create its own reality – to create the illusion that they're everywhere and still quite capable of manipulating opinion, facts, and the truth.

But this graph proves that we're the ones who are winning and on two fronts. First off, the business model of being shameless left-wing shills when alternative and honest opinion is available online just isn't working. Secondly, as we've seen this election year, the corrupt media is more desperate to hold on to its narrative and political power than to fix its business problems. This means that in competition with the New Media, Old Media is forced to quadruple down on the appalling behavior that's driving customers away.

These cretins deserve to be put out of business and relegated to the ash heap of shame. This means we can't allow ourselves to be psyched out by what looks like impossible odds against implacable dominance. We have to keep fighting and pushing until the Washington Post, New York Times, L.A. Times, Boston Globe, and the rest cease to exist.

You know, for America.

These entities can't sustain themselves forever, and the harder we fight to force the truth out there, the more the media is forced to further disgrace and expose themselves to protect their lies. This is a win-win for us.

Something else to make you feel better: The media is putting everything they have into destroying Mitt Romney, and he could still win this thing. That wouldn't have been true four years ago. But New Media is keeping him alive, and not because we're fighting the media, but because we are on offense against Barack Obama.

You see, there are two narratives now. The corrupt media has their narrative and New Media has its own narrative.

GOVERNOR MARTIN O’MALLEY VISITS BIOTECHNICAL INSTITUTE OF MARYLAND

Governor continues “Jobs and Opportunity” Tour Highlights skills goal and importance of training Maryland’s workforce

ANNAPOLIS, MD
– Governor Martin O’Malley continued the “Jobs and Opportunity” Tour by visiting the BioTechnical Institute of Maryland, Inc (BTI) in Baltimore. The Governor highlighted Maryland’s highly-skilled and educated workforce as the key to competing in a rapidly-changing 21st century economy.

“In Maryland’s Innovation Economy, our greatest competitive assets are the talents, skills, creativity, ingenuity, and education of our people,” said Governor O’Malley. “Thanks to innovative initiatives like the BioTechnical Institute of Maryland, we can provide Marylanders with the training and tools they need for jobs in quality control, manufacturing and other areas in an emerging industry. Together, we can continue to invest in our people and give them the opportunity to succeed and secure their economic future while harnessing and maximizing our competitive advantages as a State.”

The Administration has set a strategic goal to increase the number of Marylanders who receive skills training by 20 percent by the end of 2012. To date, the Administration has increased the number of Marylanders who have completed skills training by more than 13 percent.

BTI offers tuition-free training and placement assistance to highly-motivated unemployed and underemployed high school graduate adults from the Baltimore area to prepare them for positions as skilled and reliable lab technicians. BioSTART, a 240-hour pre-training program, includes instruction in contextualized academics such as math and communication and professional development, all under the purview of the bioscience industry. Successful completers of BioSTART enter BTI's Lab Associates Program which includes nine weeks of lecture and laboratory exercises in clean room practices, cell culture techniques, FDA-sanctioned Good Manufacturing Practices and is followed by a 100 hour paid internship.

“As seen from the many successes of our graduates from the BioTechnical Institute of Maryland, our training provides not only the opportunity for a better job, but also an exciting career in the growing bioscience industry,” said BTI Executive Director Kathleen Weiss. “BTI is delighted to host Governor O'Malley and to be showcased as an example of effective workforce training and an integral component of Governor O'Malley's ‘Jobs and Opportunities’ initiative.”

Approximately 75 percent of BTI graduates move on to professional positions in the bioscience industry within three months of completion. Graduates have been hired by 35 organizations in Maryland; Johns Hopkins alone employs about one quarter of the BTI grads. Analysis of the long-term retention rate since 1998 shows approximately 75 percent of BTI participants are still employed in the bioscience industry or pursuing additional related education.

Established in 1998 by Dr. Margaret B. Penno, Associate Professor of Medicine and Director of the Cell Culture Laboratory at Johns Hopkins School of Medicine, BTI receives funding from many sources, both private and public including The Abell Foundation, the Annie E. Casey Foundation, The Charles T. Bauer Foundation, The Harry and Jeanette Weinberg Foundation and the Social Innovation Fund. BTI has held 25 classes and graduated 265 students from the Lab Associates Program.

With a highly-skilled and educated workforce, Maryland has become a hub for science, technology and discovery, and a leader in the Innovation Economy. According to the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, Maryland ranks #1 in the nation for Innovation and Entrepreneurship, and remains one of the best-positioned states to grow, create jobs and prosper in the coming years. The Milken Institute ranks Maryland #1 for human capital capacity, and the Kauffman Foundation ranks Maryland #3 for the state’s ability to win in the New Economy in the 2010 State New Economy Index.

Local Food, Local Jobs

This week kicks off our 5th annual Maryland Homegrown School Lunch Program–an initiative signed into law by Governor Martin O’Malley in 2008–designed to connect our local farmers with local schools, providing our students with healthy, nutritious meals while strengthening our agricultural economy.

By bringing more Maryland-grown products to school lunches, we help educate our students about the sources of their food, how it’s produced and the benefits of a healthy diet. At the same time, we strengthen our agricultural economy, create jobs and keep local dollars in our local economies.

I’m pleased to share that Maryland was the first in the nation to have every county school system participate in the Farm to School program. Over the past five years, statewide, the program has grown with overwhelming success and shows great promise for the future. This year nearly 50 different Maryland farms are providing fresh, local food for Maryland school lunches. It is a true example of a successful federal, state, local and private collaboration that is working together and moving Maryland forward.

Today, I am visiting North Dorchester High School in Hurlock where the students will be the first on the East Coast to enjoy bison burgers for school lunches, along with local sweet potatoes. Throughout the week, Dorchester County students will also enjoy Maryland apples, tomatoes and watermelon.

Including local food in school lunches and related information in the classroom is good for our students and good for Maryland. We encourage students and parents to continue asking for fresh, local produce in school lunches. For more information about the program, including educational materials, menus, places to find local products, brief video soundbook with photos and interviews, plus much more for parents, teachers, and food service staff, visit: www.marylandfarmtoschool.org.

Together, we can build a stronger, more sustainable future for our children.

The Last Five Years Of Life Might Cost Us The Most

Most retirees know they'll spend more on health care as they age, however, a new study suggests the last five years of life are doomed to put the biggest strain on their wallet and Medicare won't be enough to cover it.

A report in the Journal of General Internal Medicine surveyed 3,209 Medicare beneficiaries between 2002 and 2008 and found they spent more out-of-pocket in the five years prior to death that at any other point in their lives.

Factoring out-of-pocket co-payments and deductibles, researchers found 25 percent of seniors spend more on home care, long-term nursing and assisted living combined than they do on non-housing assets. (via Health News).

And in examining out-of-pocket costs spent annually, they saw individuals spent $38,688 on average, while couples shelled out $51,030 when one of the spouses died. Ten percent of Medicare beneficiaries spent at least $89,000 out-of-pocket, while 5 percent spent more than $139,000. Finally, eleven percent of single and 9 percent of married households spend more than $100,000, while 75 percent spent more than $10,000.

The detour route will be posted using Portable Variable Message Signs as well as a posted detour route utilizing static messages on wind masters. Shredders Working Overtime

Shredders at the U.S. Embassy in Beirut are working overtime. Diplomats there are destroying classified material as a security precaution. Anti-U.S. riots are on the rise again after a weekend slowdown. The State Department told the Associated Press, Lebanese employees of the embassy were sent home early. Officials don't think the embassy is in immediate danger. They said protests planned by militant Muslim groups are scheduled to take place an hour away.
