IAF Landed At Saudi Base, US Troops Near Iran Border

The Israeli Air Force recently unloaded military equipment at a Saudi Arabia base, a semi-official Iranian news agency claimed Wednesday, while a large American force has massed in Azerbaijan, which is on the northwest border of Iran.

Both reports follow by less than a week the Pentagon’s confirmation that an unusually large American fleet sailed through the Suez Canal Saturday. Several reports stated that an Israeli ship joined the armada.

The Pentagon played down the news, saying the American maneuvers were routine. However, a report by Iran on Wednesday that it has enriched dozens of pounds of 17 per cent enriched uranium serves as a reminder that time is running out to stop Iran from being able to produce a nuclear weapon.

Iran’s Fars News Agency said the Israeli military aircraft landed 10 days ago at the Saudi base near the city of Tabuk, located in northwest Saudi Arabia, one of the closest areas in the oil kingdom to Iran.

Fars said that the Tabuk base will be the central station for an Israeli attack on Iran. It quoted an Islamic news site that a commercial airline passenger said the airport in Tabuk was closed to all other traffic during the alleged Israeli landings. The passenger said that "no reasonable explanation” was given for shutting down the airport and those passengers were compensated financially and booked in four-star hotels.

Iran’s government-funded Press TV reported that the Revolutionary Guards began closely patrolling the Islamic Republic’s northwestern border after noticing the American forces, which Iran claimed also included Israeli troops. Azerbaijan’s independent Trend news site also reported on Wednesday that American armed forces are in the country, which is in an armed conflict with rebels.

Revolutionary Guards Brigadier General Mehdi Moini said Tuesday that his forces are mobilized “due to the presence of American and Israeli forces on the western border.” The Guards reportedly have called in tanks and anti-aircraft units to the area in what amounts to a war alert.

Midwest Town On Cutting Edge Of Crackdown On Illegals

Voters in Fremont, Neb., have passed a citywide referendum making it a violation of local law to rent to or hire illegal aliens, and a Kansas City lawyer who helped write the ordinance says they are on the cutting edge of a growing effort to crack down on violations of the U.S. border.

"There's no question that a growing number of states and cities are trying to take steps to discourage illegal immigration," he told WND today. "The main reason for this is that when our immigration laws go unenforced, the fiscal burden falls directly at the state and local level, not at the federal level."

Fremont voters, a few miles outside of Omaha, already have had their ordinance challenged, but Kobach said he helped win a 7-0 decision before the Nebraska Supreme Court allowing residents to vote on the plan.

"The immense cost of illegal immigration to local voters is the driving reason behind the actions that cities and states are taking," he said.

And there's a national "mood" regarding the federal government's present level of activity.

"Given the extremely high level of support for Arizona's law both in Arizona and around the country as demonstrated by polls, and given the exact expression of popular support by the voters there, it's clear that the people of America want ourimmigration laws enforced," Kobach said.

"The people are not interested in amnesty and they are tired of an administration in Washington that is scaling back at enforcement and the people want to see the rule of law returned," Kobach said.

"I would add that the Obama administration's numerous efforts to reduce enforcement of immigration laws, including scaling back work site enforcement, come at the worst possible time," Kobach said.

He said Americans still are hurting from unemployment, and they want their own government to "defend the interests of the workers."

Instead, Kobach said, "The Obama administration is leaving them undefended."

Kobach adds that the law was made a referendum because the city council and mayor voted against it.

"The vote on the Fremont city council was 4-4 and the mayor cast the deciding vote against it," Kobach said.

"The city attorney sought a declaratory judgment at the Nebraska Supreme Court to stop the petition until the courts had determined its legal validity. I represented the people who petitioned for it and we contested the city attorney's move in the courts and we went all the way to the NebraskaSupreme Court. The Supreme Court said the issue has to go to a popular vote," Kobach explained.

Black SC Republican Poised To Go To Congress

Voters in South Carolina nominated a black Republican lawmaker for an open congressional seat Tuesday, rejecting a legendary political name and adding diversity to the national party.

State Rep. Tim Scott defeated Paul Thurmond, an attorney who is son of the one-time segregationist U.S. Sen. Strom Thurmond. Scott, who won the runoff with 69 percent of the vote, is now poised to become the nation's first black GOP congressman since 2003.

Scott, 44, owns an insurance business and became the first black Republican in the South Carolina Legislature in more than a century when elected two years ago. Before that, he served 13 years on Charleston County Council and was elected chairman four times.

He's now the favorite in the coastal 1st District, which has elected a Republican congressman for three decades. He would become the first black Republican congressman since Oklahoma's J.C. Watts retired in 2003.

Scott grew up in poverty in North Charleston, his parents divorcing when he was 7. His mother, Frances, worked 16 hours a day raising Scott and a brother and Scott regularly introduce her at campaign events.

Scott also credits a mentor with helping him turn around his life at a time he was in danger of flunking out of high school. He said John Moniz, a conservative entrepreneur who ran a Chick-fil-A, changed his outlook on life.

Scott, who is single, later went on to graduate from Charleston Southern University with a degree in political science.

Earlier this year, Scott was campaigning for lieutenant governor, but changed his sights after U.S. Rep. Henry Brown announced he was retiring. The district reaches from near Charleston northeast along the state's coast to the high rise hotels of Myrtle Beach.

"This race is not really about winning the election," Scott told about 200 people gathered for a victory party in a North Charleston hotel. "It's about finding a way to bring us together so our country leads the world in every way possible."

Scott picked up key national endorsements, including one from former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin. The Washington-based Club for Growth, which promotes reducing taxes, budget reform and free trade said Tuesday that donations from its members and political action committee totaled more than $313,000 for Scott.

Cato Institute Proposes 94 Percent Budget Cut For Department Of Transportation

While the federal budget deficit for 2010 ticked past $1 trillion last week and President Barack Obama is pressing Congress for another $50 billion in economic stimulus money, the free market Cato Institute is pushing proposals to dramatically cut federal spending, including a nearly $85 billion reduction at the Department of Transportation (DOT).

Cato released its list of proposed federal cuts last Thursday, posted on its sister Web site downsizinggovernment.org. In addition to the DOT plan, Cato has released similar spending-reduction plans for the Departments of Commerce, Agriculture and Education.

The DOT "will spend $91 billion in 2010, or about $770 for every U.S. household," reported Cato. "It employs 58,000 workers and operates 85 different subsidy programs."

For the DOT, Cato advocates eliminating both the Federal Highway Authority and the Federal Transit Administration, and also suggests that lawmakers cut several aspects of the current Federal Aviation Administration.

Cato’s proposal would reduce the DOT’s $91-billion budget for fiscal year 2010 to a mere $6 billion -- a 94.4 percent decrease.

On the Web site, Cato argues that the operations cut from the DOT could be managed more efficiently at the state level and in the private sector.

Cato’s federal and state budget expert Chris Edwards, author of the book Downsizing Federal Government, said the Department of Transportation maintains and funds many aspects of transit that “are properly the responsibility of state and local governments” and the “private sector.”

'Homo Depot'? Chain Hosts Kiddie Crafts At 'Gay' Fests

Critics: Children's workshops 'in midst of loud and boisterous homosexual activities'

Is Home Depot seeking to introduce children to the homosexual lifestyle?

The home-improvement giant has sponsored yet another "gay" pride event and provided children's craft workshops "in the midst of loud and boisterous gay activities" at the 2010 Southern Maine Pride Festival in Portland, Maine, according to the American Family Association.

"The worst offense is that Home Depot has set up kids' workshops at these gay pride festivals," explains AFA's director of special projects. "These are events that have loud, boisterous homosexual activists making their voices heard – and Home Depot is putting money behind setting up kids' booths at these kinds of events."

In a form letter to Home Depot, AFA tells the company its inclusion of children's activities at homosexual events is "irresponsible" and encourages children's attendance.

"Thus, they will likely be exposed to unhealthy and risky environments," it states. "I'm imploring you to put the safety and well-being of children first by not sponsoring or participating in homosexual events."

In photos of the June 19 Maine festival, Home Depot's logo can be spotted on plastic cups, "My toy store" bumper stickers and aprons. People wearing Home Depot aprons sat on a float above a large and prominently placed placard of a Home Depot orange race car.

Home Depot is also listed alongside Bank of America on the Southern Main Pride's sponsor page.

Is Oil Catastrophe Fulfillment Of Genesis Prophecy?

Video suggests biblical tie with U.S. treatment of Israel, rig explosion

Is there a spiritual, biblical connection to the BP oil catastrophe?

A new video on YouTube is suggesting a possible link to the disaster due to America's recent treatment of Israel, and at least one well-known Bible analyst, Hal Lindsey, thinks there's a valid correlation.

Financial ‘Reform’ Imperils Consumer Privacy

There may be a number of reasons to oppose the financial services “reform” legislation passed recently by both houses of Congress and now headed to conference committee to work out differences — its length, its complexity and its many regulatory mechanisms.

One of the strongest grounds on which to cast a jaundiced eye toward this latest legislative initiative of the Obama administration, however, is its creation of privacy-invasive mechanisms through which the federal government will be able to monitor and direct every facet of personal consumer financing activity in the country.

Lurking within the more than 1,600 pages of the Restoring American Financial Stability Act are provisions that empower a new office to be set up (headed by a high-level presidential appointee) to gather “financial transaction data” on everything from the largest bank’s internal transaction sheets down to the daily withdrawals from a community bank’s local ATM. Another new agency will have jurisdiction to establish and enforce far-reaching measures to ensure that every “financial product or service” is “fair, transparent and competitive.”

In the pre-financial-services-meltdown-of-2008 era, the transparent and lawful operation of financial services was supposed to have been ensured through consistent and forceful enforcement of the myriad federal laws designed to uncover and thwart fraud, discrimination and other bad behavior by providers of financial services. Obviously, this paradigm failed us big time.

The solution proposed now by Congress is not to do what prior administrations failed to do — enforce the laws — but to create a massive new regulatory structure giving federal bureaucrats power to look over the shoulders of everyone in the financial services sector, from CEOs to bank tellers, to decide if the system is running “fairly” (whatever that means). These new regulators would be able to make changes to that system — under threat of subpoena and wide-ranging enforcement action — whenever they deem it necessary.

Fundamentally, this legislative road map is premised on the principle that the only way to ensure that the financial marketplace operates properly is to have it overseen at all levels by federal regulators.

Unfortunately, even if one accepts this premise and supports the regulatory mechanism incorporated into the legislation, the new powers granted the government to gather detailed data on consumer financial transactions go far beyond those necessary to correct the imbalances that led to the 2008 debacle.

Oppose 'Disclose' Act Before It Silents You

Ask Kratovil to Oppose H.R. 5175,
the "DISCLOSE" Act,
that silents grassroots groups

Rush Limbaugh headlined this act today, three days after you may have read this on SBY news!
The Dems designed this bill to gut Tea Party groups and any grassroots organizations, but protect Obama's favored LABOR UNION groups.

Hence, any group with a million plus members, ten years or older and with membership in 50 states is unaffected by new regulations.

Protect your VOICE and opportunity to be heard.
Speak out and oppose this bill which the Dems know is unconstitutional and will be overturned , BUT not before elections.

Ask Kratovil to oppose H.R. 5175!
H.R 5175, the "DISCLOSE Act" is a bill designed to protect 2010 incumbents.
Fearful of what Election Day in November will bring them, liberals in Congress are pushing H.R. 5175, the "DISCLOSE Act," a bill disguised as campaign finance reform, but which is really designed to protect incumbents during the current election year.

Tell Representative Frank Kratovil to OPPOSE H.R. 5175
Instead of addressing the problems often found in the financing of campaigns, H.R. 5175 adds to the already onerous burdens placed on law-abiding organizations by exposing their donors in places like TV, radio and newspaper ads. The bill exposes the hypocrisy of its supporters by giving special treatment to favored special interests, even though the bill is designed to crack down on the power of many other special interests!

These tactics are used to intimidate donors. They were used in the 1960s during the Civil Rights struggles, and more recently have been employed against Christians in states like Massachusetts, California and Maine for merely voicing their beliefs on marriage being between one man and one woman.

Now the Democrats want to intimidate you into silence as well!

The goal behind this bill, written by the head of the Democratic Congressional Committee and a liberal Republican who fears a primary challenge, is to influence this election in particular. Liberals are well aware that the DISCLOSE Act is unconstitutional. They know that the courts may eventually overturn the law, but not before November 2nd, 2010 -- election day. By then, the damage to free speech will have already been done.

Please contact Congressman Kratovil today and tell him to oppose H.R. 5175, the DISCLOSE Act.

GOVERNOR O’MALLEY, SENATE PRESIDENT MILLER, SPEAKER BUSCH, COMPTROLLER FRANCHOT, TREASURER KOPP ANNOUNCE GOVERNMENT ACCOUNTABILITY AND TRANSPARENCY ACTIONS

ANNAPOLIS, MD
– Governor Martin O’Malley joined Senate President Thomas V. Mike Miller Jr., House Speaker Michael E. Busch, Comptroller Peter Franchot, and Treasurer Nancy Kopp to make an announcement on specific government accountability and transparency actions by the General Assembly and the Board of Public Works moving forward. Governor O’Malley announced that beginning immediately, all Board of Public Works meetings will be broadcast live online. In addition, the General Assembly Presiding Officers announced specific measures for future legislative sessions that create greater accountability and transparency in Maryland’s state government.

“We’ve been proud these last four years to usher in a new era of accountability and transparency to the Governor’s office that has become a hallmark to our Administration,” said Governor O’Malley. “Our goal from the beginning was to make government work again for the people it serves. As we continue to find new ways to make government more responsive and responsible, we’re delivering on the promise of openness and transparency for the people of Maryland.”

President Miller and Speaker Busch announced specific actions for the General Assembly, including live streaming of standing committee hearings through the General Assembly website. The Senate will broadcast live audio of committee hearings, and the House will broadcast live video. In addition, the General Assembly will waive the current fee for up-to-the-minute updates on bill status during legislative session, opening this function up to the general public at no charge. The Presiding Officers also reaffirmed their commitment to continue posting final roll call committee votes online.

“The internet is a powerful tool for promoting accountability in state government. Governor O’Malley and the legislature have embraced technology as a way to make government more open to the citizens of Maryland,” said Thomas V. Mike Miller, Jr. “I want to thank Senator Nancy King for her efforts to build the public trust and increase transparency in the legislative process. “

“The voice of the public is the most important component in the legislative process,” said Speaker Michael E. Busch. “By using technology to make information more accessible and available to the public, we are making it easier for Marylanders to participate in the work of the General Assembly and strengthening the work that we do in Annapolis.”

The O’Malley-Brown Administration has championed openness and transparency in government, nationally recognized for its accountability and transparency tools that monitor investments made from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act in Maryland. In addition, tools employed through BayStat, GreenPrint, and StateStat place Maryland as the driving force behind some of the nation’s most cutting edge technology used to inform the public about the resources and services available to our State. Just last week, Governor O’Malley unveiled the new Visit Maryland Interactive Map. This first-of-its-kind map portrays Maryland’s uniquely rich collection of natural, cultural, heritage and recreational resources in a user-friendly searchable format.

Last year, as a result of legislation passed by the General Assembly, Governor O’Malley launched the Maryland Funding Accountability website, a public site that allows citizens and visitors to search and view information on contracts of a certain amount between the state and private vendors.

A Woman and a Fork

There was a young woman who had been diagnosed with a terminal illness and had been given three months to live. So as she was getting her things "in order," she contacted her Pastor and had him come to her house to discuss certain aspects of her final wishes.

She told him which songs she wanted sung at the service, what scriptures she would like read, and what outfit she wanted to be buried in.

Everything was in order and the Pastor was preparing to leave when the young woman suddenly remembered something very important to her.

"There's one more thing," she said excitedly.

"What's that?" came the Pastor's reply.

"This is very important," the young woman continued. "I want to be buried with a fork in my right hand."

The Pastor stood looking at the young woman, not knowing quite what to say.

That surprises you, doesn't it?" the young woman asked.

"Well, to be honest, I'm puzzled by the request," said the Pastor.

The young woman explained. "My grandmother once told me this story, and from that time on I have always tried to pass along its message to those I love and those who are in need of encouragement. In all my years of attending socials and dinners, I always remember that when the dishes of the main course were being cleared, someone would inevitably lean over and say, 'Keep your fork.' It was my favorite part because I knew that something better was coming.....like velvety chocolate cake or deep-dish apple pie. Something wonderful, and with substance!'

So, I just want people to see me there in that casket with a fork in my hand and I want them to wonder "What's with the fork?" Then I want you to tell them: "Keep your fork, the best is yet to come."

The Pastor's eyes welled up with tears of joy as he hugged the young woman good-bye. He knew this would be one of the last times he would see her before her death. But he also knew that the young woman had a better grasp of heaven than he did. She had a better grasp of what heaven would be like than many people twice her age, with twice as much experience and knowledge. She KNEW that something better was coming.

At the funeral people were walking by the young woman's casket and they saw the cloak she was wearing and the fork placed in her right hand. Over and over, the Pastor heard the question, "What's with the fork?" And over and over he smiled.

During his message, the Pastor told the people of the conversation he had with the young woman shortly before she died. He also told them about the fork and about what it symbolized to her. He told the people how he could not stop thinking about the fork and told them that they probably would not be able to stop thinking about it either.

Frederick, MD Commissioner Eric Wargotz, a member of the Queens Anne’s County Board of Commissioners and practicing physician, Sheriff Chuck Jenkins of Frederick County and State Senator David Brinkley of Frederick and Carroll Counties met with area voters in Frederick County, to discuss the key issues including the important issues of fiscal responsibility and illegal immigration.

Senator Brinkley, a leader in Annapolis on budget issues, was the sponsor of legislation to prohibit illegal aliens from obtaining a driver's license. Brinkley, who sponsored his own budget bill during this past General Assembly session, spoke of the need for fiscal discipline in both Annapolis and Washington.

Sheriff Jenkins, who is known statewide for his efforts to detain and deport illegal immigrants, discussed his use of the Federal Secure Communities and 287G Programs to lead the state in arrests and deportations.

Commissioner Wargotz spoke of his Commission's efforts to ban area businesses that hire illegals from being awarded county contracts. He said that thanks to his Sheriff, Gery Hofmann, Wargotz was proud to say that Queen Anne's County (one of the few counties in Maryland to participate in the Secured Communities Program) was an Eastern Shore leader in deportations. Wargotz also addressed the budget cuts his county recently made in order to avoid tax increases and his commission's adoption of the Constant Yield Rate.

A physician in private practice, Wargotz is serving his first term as the elected President of the Queen Anne's County Board of Commissioners. Commissioner Wargotz is the lead US Senate candidate in a crowded field for the Republican nomination for the seat currently held by the 34-year incumbent, Barbara Mikulski

Nightly News At 6 PM

I Will Not Attend The AFP Meeting This Evening

Based on numerous phone calls and e-mail messages, I will not be attending the AFP Meeting this evening.
Considering the comments I have rejected with additional and personal threats on my life, it's not worth taking the risk. I have consulted with those in the position to give proper advice and I will follow their wisdom.
So keep your guns and beer muscles at home boys, I won't be there. While I'm at it I'd just like to add the following.
Isn't it interesting how this group, (AFP) was plugging along just fine attacking Stevie Prettyman, yet as soon as I challenge THEM, they have to physically threaten and even go so far as threaten my life to keep me away. So it's OK for them to attack others but God Forbid someone challenge them back, this is what you get.
And I thought Obama was bad!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I Wonder Where They Got This From, Hmmmmm?????

Sales Of New Homes In May Hit Record Low

End of homebuyer tax credit contributes to 33 percent decline

WASHINGTON - Sales of new homes collapsed in May, sinking 33 percent to the lowest level on record as potential buyers stopped shopping for homes once they could no longer receive government tax credits.

The bleak report from the Commerce Department on Wednesday is the latest sign of a precarious housing market that is struggling to recover and could weaken the broader economic recovery. It follows a disappointing report issued earlier in the week showing sales of previously occupied homes had dipped in May.

Analysts linked the sudden drop in new-home sales to the expiration of federal tax credits of up to $8,000. But double-digit unemployment and slow job growth have also weighed on the market, even with mortgage rates at near-historic lows.

DPL Strike UPDATE

JOE-here is food for thought, I know DP&L is out on strike. And I try to understand every one's rights. But I have a question with what determines a possible emergency. This morning when I awoke after last night's storm I noticed that their was a power line down across the street, in front of a neighbor's house. Now I have no electrical background to be sure but this line is hanging directly in front of the door on the front porch and is hanging quite low, how low you ask, well I'm 5'6" and I could touch it if I was standing directly under it. With children being out of school I thought it could possibly be a dangerous situation so I reported the dropped line between 8:00 am -8:30 am this morning. At 12:00 noon a female in a white city vehicle came out and took pictures of the line, but then left. It is now 1:30 pm and the line is still hanging should DPL be responding and when is someone possibly going to do something? I just don't want this to be one of those should have's, could have been prevented situations, only because their are a lot of children in this area, could they at least put a sign out CAUTION?

Use Caution When Working Outside Today And Tomorrow

It is going to be a HOT on the Lower Eastern Shore of Maryland!! According to the National Weather Service, this hazardous weather could make it dangerous to those working in the extreme heat.

Hot and humid conditions will produce heat index values of nearly 100 degrees this afternoon and 102-108 degrees on Thursday afternoon. In addition, Isolated to scattered thunderstorms will be possible Thursday afternoon into Thursday night.

According to FEMA, in extreme heat and high humidity, evaporation is slowed and the body must work extra hard to maintain a normal temperature. Most heat disorders accrue because the victim has been overexposed to heat.

Very Good Question!

"Dear Mr. Albero,

First of all, thank you for your website. I find it very informative. I know that you are very busy, but could you possibly provide us with an update on how Greg from Eastside Deli is doing?"

I truly do not have the answer to this question. I thought I'd share it with everyone in the hopes of achieving the answer through comments.

States Attorney Davis Ruark Sends A Clear Message To His Staff

"Yesterday, all current employees of the Wicomico State's Attorney's Office received an email from Davis Ruark (dated 6/21/10 at 10 pm). It stated if any current employee plans to run against him in the upcoming election, they better resign now. It also said if any current employee has been promised anything by an incumbent (such as a promise of future employment), that they also better resign now.

All employees of that office are in complete shock. That means Sam Vincent (and any employee that has been promised anything) has to resign and will likely be unemployeed for the next months until the election. Any Asst or Deputy State's Attorney's cases will have to be reassigned.

Because Davis Ruark is elected, he has no supervisor. The current employees are unable to take any action against him. This is unreal!!"

This morning I received the above message and I couldn't disagree with their message more.

Sam Vincent works at the pleasure of Davis Ruark. Davis Ruark's job, (especially right now) is to prosecute. It is NOT to manage an office in which you are forced to pick and choose who you will support.

Sam Vincent has been given numerous opportunities to take a leave of absence and has chosen not to do so. This is within Davis Ruark's power to KEEP THE PEACE and Sam is very aware of the position he is in.

IMHO, the disrespect Sam is placing not only on Ruark, but the entire Staff within the States Attorneys Office is just unbelievable to me. However, the general public is not aware of what is going on there. Sam should have respectably taken a leave of absence and run his campaign. Instead, he has stalled filing, (even though he has announced his intent to run).

Davis Ruark has given Sam every opportunity to work things out in the hopes Sam would not file against him, yet Sam fully intends to continue his run against Davis.

Right now we have the most serious criminal case Wicomico County has ever experienced, the murder of Sarah Foxwell. What's more important to you Sam? Kindly step down, take a leave of absence and do the honorable thing.

Sam Vincent has left Davis Ruark with no choice. Every attorney in that Office has a job to do. The cases are so loaded, there's no time for internal politics. I have spoken to other States Attorneys and they firmly agree with Ruark's position. Sam knew what he was getting into.

When you have a Owner/President/CEO of a company and someone below you attempts to take over the company, do you keep them on Staff? Look what recently happened to a General vs. Obama! The General certainly has the right to resign and RUN for President of the United States but it is completely unethical to disrespect his leader on the job. Vincent is no different.

I applaud Davis Ruark for standing his ground, making the proper offers up front and then the final message to all employees. Mind you, the message at the top of this Post is a paraphrased messages. It is NOT the actual message Ruark sent out. It is their second hand, if not third hand opinion of what was sent.

General McChrystal’s Burning Contempt For The Puppet Obama

The farce that is the war in Afghanistan is coming apart at the seams. General Stanley McChrystal’s sharp comments about Obama, Biden, and the administration published by Rolling Stone are not so much about disrespect, as the script-reading corporate media talking heads would have it, but rather about a policy in disarray in Afghanistan.

Obama the wunderbar teleprompter reader (and little else) is instructed to push the completely untenable prospect that the United States can win the so-called war in Afghanistan, a country often referred to as the graveyard of empires. The British, the Russians, Alexander the Great, and Genghis Khan either fell to the Afghans or made painful concessions. The British suffered one of their greatest military defeats in the Khyber. 16,500 British soldiers and civilians, retreating after defeat in Kabul, were slaughtered by the Afghans. One person was spared to tell the story.

The establishment knows it cannot “win” in Afghanistan and the claim the U.S. military is there to defeat the Taliban and al-Qaeda is nothing but transparent propaganda.

Afghanistan is a black hole sucking up men and machinery for the sake of death merchant profiteers. It is valuable real estate to be held — not conquered — real estate where opium grows for the sake of CIA off-the-books operating capital funding covert wars against enemies of the global elite. The fantastic profits earned from opium also flood the coffers of the masters of the casino economy on Wall Street. As Catherine Austin Fiits has documented, without this influx of laundered underground and illicit money Wall Street would have collapsed long ago.

After the so-called Afghanistan assessment was supposedly leaked to the CIA’s favorite newspaper last year — the report recommended in Pentagon-speak securing the population, aiding in providing good governance, building and mentoring the Afghan security forces — McChrystal threatened to resign if he was not provided with resources to accomplish the mission.

Spirit Airlines Launches "Check Out The Oil On Our Beaches" Promo

Spirit Airlines is known for pushing its bottom-scraping fees with crass emailed promos, but usually they just stick with dorky sex puns. Audit Finds Serious Flaws At Maryland Elections Board

The State Board of Elections does not do a good job monitoring voter registration and overseeing local election boards, state auditors said in a new report, and the board has serious deficiencies in handling accounts receivable, cash, equipment and payroll, even failing to report a $2 million budget shortfall.

Some of the same problems were found in a 2006 audit, but elections officials still hadn’t properly addressed them, the audit said.

Bruce Myers, the legislature’s chief auditor, called the findings “disappointing” since these were “long-standing issues.”

Interior Secretary To Issue New Drilling Ban

Judge rules against Obama's six-month moratorium after Gulf spill

WASHINGTON - Interior Secretary Ken Salazar said Tuesday he will issue a new order imposing a moratorium on deepwater drilling after a federal judge struck down the existing one.

Salazar said in a statement that the new order will contain additional information making clear why the six-month drilling pause was necessary in the wake of the Gulf oil spill. The judge in New Orleans who struck down the moratorium earlier in the day complained there wasn't enough justification for it.

Salazar pointed to indications of inadequate industry safety precautions on deepwater wells.

"Based on this ever-growing evidence, I will issue a new order in the coming days that eliminates any doubt that a moratorium is needed, appropriate, and within our authorities."

Has Anyone Else Heard The Same About PRMC?

Joe,

I am an avid reader of your site. It is the only site to address issues as they really are.

I have seen a lot on your site about City and County furloughs, but nothing on the PRMC situation.

There have been multiple layoffs lately, morale is low and most fear for their jobs.

Today they are arriving at work to find out their vacations have been cut by two days.

Wonder if the top heavy management there are getting the same treatment.

Just wondering if you had any knowledge on the subject.

I think in the end the patients will be the ones to suffer most.

Blair As New Boss Of BP? British Paper Says So

LONDON - British financial insiders are touting former British Prime Minister Tony Blair as the next chairman of beleaguered energy giant BP, the Daily Mirror newspaper reported on Wednesday.

"Anyone who watched chief executive Tony Hayward struggle to find a voice while being skewered by Congress last week would have realized the company needs to step up its debating skills by about 1,000%," said writer and financial columnist Matthew Lynn.

Executives' gaffes have defined BP's reaction in the wake of the April 20 rig explosion and subsequent oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico. The company has become an object of hate in parts of the United States and endured scathing criticism from politicians and the public as a whole.

BP's reputation is not the only thing to have taken a beating — its shares have lost 50 percent of their value since the Deepwater Horizon spill began.

Tony Blair, who led the country for 10 years and is popular in the United States, could help repair the BP's public image, Lynn said.

Lies And More Lies

Joe...

So I'm working today and I get a phone call...

Myself: Good afternoon, Pulse Car Audio

caller: "Hello I saw your ad on the SBYNEWS.com website"

Myself: "Thank you for calling, how are you doing today"

caller: "Well not great"

Myself: "oh, I'm sorry, how can I help you today"

caller: "I wanted to let you know that the website you are spending your advertising dollars on supports hate crimes"

Myself: "I'm sorry, what was that???!?!"

caller: "the sbynews.com article about the Mexican border control, letting Mexicans in our country has a link to the Aryan nation white supremacist group when you click on it"

Myself: "well thank you for the information, I did not know that"

END OF CALL.

Ok, so thanks to technology I have caller ID. the call came from Paul Gudelski at 410-845-9688.

I'm not sure who this guy is. If this is in fact true, then I appreciate his phone call. I'm sure you did not INTENTIONALLY do this in any way shape or form, if it even is true. I went to the sbynews.com website and looked for this link and did not find it.

Seriously, I know there are some people out there who do not agree with everything you may say, and that's fine. Its called freedom of speech, you are allowed to express your opinions so long as it does not cause any harm to anyone.

This guy must really have it out for you, to take his time to call all of the advertisers on your site to let us know this.

I WILL FOR THE RECORD SAY THIS... I NOR PULSE CAR AUDIO SUPPORT ANY KIND OF HATE GROUPS, HATE CRIMES, OR ANYTHING ELSE OF THE SORT. I AM NOT A RACIST. AND I DO NOT WANT TO BE ASSOCIATED WITH ANYONE THAT I KNOW IS EITHER.

That being said... thanks to that caller for seeing my ad on your site. :)

Editors Note: There are a select few who continue to call our advertisers and fill them with lies on a regular basis. Allow me to say this. Jonathan Taylor goes around telling people he loves Salisbury. What Jonathan Taylor loves is ME, for one. He has a man love for me he just can't seem to get over. The other thing he loves is attention.

No, Salisbury News would never intentionally do what these people claim. Joe Albero is not a racist, nor do we produce articles that imply such. Just like Joe Albero never stated, (while ringing the bell for the Salvation Army) to an interracial couple that she was a N-Word loving whore, as Tom McGuire told WalMart and Sam's Club. I have friends he has confessed to that he not only was the one who did it, he admits he lied about the entire thing.

So please Folks, ignore these people. When you come to learn what Salisbury News will be doing with the advertising dollars we bring in you'll be very proud of us and want to get on board and participate. Charles Jannace and others are extremely jealous of our success. Some will encourage others to flat out lie and here's a perfect example.

"Here’s another project for the faithful: Boycott Peaky’s.

Another little game I have found it fun to play is to go to several websites such as yellowpages.com and google.com and leave fake reviews on all of Joe’s advertisers.
If they won’t respond to our phone calls and emails, we’ll hit them where it really hurts. Believe me, people read online reviews of places. If there’s one thing that will steer business away from them, it’s bad publicity.

Let’s get to work!"

Advertisers choose to place ads where they can get the biggest bang for the buck. Salisbury News has proven to provide solid results for a minimum investment. If Jonathan loves Salisbury so much, why doesn't he realize these people are simply trying to survive in a very difficult economy? Instead, these people are trying to destroy these businesses. Salisbury News will be joining Pohanka to "Pay It Forward" to other local non profits. To bash Salisbury News and its advertisers will simply hurt those efforts.

UPDATE: The Paul Gudelski mentioned above is NOT Paul Gudelski Sr. It is Paul Gudelski Jr.

Iran Changes Course On Ship; Israel Trains For The Worst

Iran has changed course again and announced Tuesday afternoon it will send a ship to try to challenge Israeli sovereignty over the waters off of Hamas-controlled Gaza, as was agreed in the Oslo Accords.

One day earlier, Iran backed down, saying that the sailing was being put off indefinitely. No reason was given for either announcement, but the resumption of the plan to risk a confrontation with the Israeli Navy came the same day that efforts were intensified in Lebanon for two ships to set out for Gaza.

Analysts have pointed out that despite its verbal bravado, the Islamic Republic’s navy is the weakest part of its armed forces. However, Israel is preparing for the worst, and commandos are training for the prospect of meeting up with Iranian suicide bombers on the high seas.

"No one in their right mind can believe that a ship sent by the ayatollahs and their Revolutionary Guards has anything to do with humanitarian aid," said Israeli Foreign Ministry spokesman Yigal Palmor. "I don't think there is one single country in this region and beyond that would let such an ayatollah ship come near its coasts."

The prospect of U.S. warships being involved was played down by Newsweek magazine, which reported Tuesday that Saturday’s movement through the Suez Canal of the American warships, led by the giant aircraft carrier USS Truman, was unconnected with an Iranian attempt to reach Gaza.

The movement of the warships was exceptional because of the number of vessels involved, the largest in years, but the Pentagon stated that the USS Truman simply was on its way to relieve the USS Eisenhower carrier in “a routine rotation of forces during a scheduled deployment.”

If Iran goes through with its vow to send a ship, any confrontation with Israel is less likely to result in the international sympathy for the Turkish flotilla that clashed with Israeli commandos May 31, when nine Turkish terror activists were killed.

Israel has won support from the United States and the Quartet's Middle East envoy Tony Blair for its announcement that the partial land blockade in Gaza will be significantly eased, thereby undermining complaints that Gaza citizens cannot receive day-to-day goods and merchandise.

More Than Half Oppose Justice Dept. Challenge To Arizona Immigration Law

Fifty-six percent of Americans oppose an anticipated federal government challenge to the immigration law recently passed in Arizona, according to a recent Rasmussen Report.

Set to take effect in July, the new law allows police officers to question a person’s immigration status during a “lawful stop” if an officer has “reasonable suspicion” that the person is in the country illegally. "Race, color or national origin" alone do not constitute reasonable suspicion. The state law mirrors federal law.

Rasmussen’s national telephone survey asked 1,000 voters: Should the U.S. Justice Department challenge the legality of Arizona’s new immigration law in federal court?

Fifty-six percent opposed a legal challenge to the new law while 26 percent of Americans supported such a lawsuit against Arizona and 18 percent were undecided.

The poll was conducted on May 26-27, before the Justice Department or White House confirmed plans to move forward with a lawsuit against Arizona.

According to another poll from Rasmussen, 71 percent of Arizona residents favor the new immigration law and 58 percent of all Americans favor the passage of similar laws in their states.

Europe's Spending Cuts Spook Obama

A trans-Atlantic rift is growing over the right medicine for Europe's financial crisis, with Britain announcing its steepest cuts in decades Tuesday and Germany defending its own austerity measures after a warning by President Barack Obama that budget-slashing could threaten the global recovery.

Britain's emergency budget is the latest in a string of deep cuts in public spending and reflects new resolve in Europe, after Greece was pushed to the brink of bankruptcy and even threatened the bloc's economic union, to tackle debt before worrying about growth.

As leaders of the Group of 20 economic powers prepare to assemble later this week in Canada, that single-minded focus is worrying the United States. Obama wrote a letter to world leaders Friday warning against excessive spending cuts.

German Chancellor Angela Merkel fought back this week, defending her government's $80 billion savings plan as British treasury chief George Osborne forged ahead with his own grim budget.

Many European analysts agree that taming deficits is the more urgent priority.

Obama "has a point, but there are some countries that don't have a luxury of a choice, they have got to get a grip and start cutting quickly because the alternative of becoming the next Greece is not palatable to them," said Jonathan Loynes, chief European economist at Capital Economics in London.

Give Kids The World

Hi!

You don’t know me, but I’ve been keeping track of Brooke’s progress. Wow, what a trooper! She is an amazing little girl.

I was just reading the update on Salisbury News and saw that you were blessed to participate in Make a Wish and Give Kids the World. I recently found out that Give Kids the World is in the running for a $250,000 grant from Pepsi to update their facilities. The two ideas with the most votes in the $250k category will be given the funding (there's more than one category) GKTW is currently in 9th place. I thought with your connections, if more people know about it, GKTW can get more votes and be one of the two winners. Voting ends on June 30, so there’s time, but not much.

The link to the voting is: http://www.refresheverything.com/givekidstheworld

From Rob Mulford: "This was such a magical moment in Brooke’s life and for all the kids we saw there. Please take 5 minutes to vote to ensure all kids that are sick have the same opportunity as Brooke did……."

YOU GOTTA LOVE THIS LAWYER

A New Orleans lawyer sought an FHA loan for a client who lost his house in Hurricane Katrina and wanted to rebuild.

He was told the loan would be granted if he could prove satisfactory title to the parcel of property being offered as collateral. The title to the property dated back to 1803, which took the Lawyer three months to track down.

After sending the information to the FHA, he received the following reply: (Actual letter):

"Upon review of your letter adjoining your client's loan application, we note that the request is supported by an Abstract of Title. While we compliment the able manner in which you have prepared and presented the application, we must point out that you have only cleared title to the proposed collateral property back to 1803. Before final approval can be accorded, it will be necessary to clear the title back to its origin."

Annoyed, the lawyer responded as follows: (Actual Letter)

"Your letter regarding title in Case No. 18915620 has been received. I note that you wish to have title extended further than the 194 years covered by the present application. I was unaware that any educated person in this country, particularly those working in the property area, would not know that Louisiana was purchased, by the U.S., from France in 1803, the year of origin identified in our application.

For the edification of uninformed FHA bureaucrats, the title to the land prior to U.S. ownership was obtained from France , which had acquired it by Right of Conquest from Spain . The land came into the possession of Spain by Right of Discovery made in the year 1492 by a sea captain named Christopher Columbus, who had been granted the privilege of seeking a new route to India by the Spanish monarch, Isabella. The good queen, Isabella, being a pious woman and almost as careful about titles as the FHA, took the precaution of securing the blessing of the Pope before she sold her jewels to finance Columbus ' expedition. Now the Pope, as I'm sure you may know, is the emissary of Jesus Christ, the Son of God, and God, it is commonly accepted, created this world. Therefore, I believe it is safe to presume that God also made that part of the world called Louisiana .

God, therefore, would be the owner of origin and His origins date back to before the beginning of time, the world as we know it AND the FHA. I hope you find God's original claim to be satisfactory. Now, may we have our damn loan?"

He got the loan

Meet & Greet At Brew River After AFP Meeting Tonight

We've had a lot of candidates interested in speaking at our meetings recently and time is running short before the September 14th primary. We've also received word that there are a lot of candidates that will be attending our meeting Wednesday (6/23) at Brew River in Salisbury at 7pm. Our meeting agenda is booked but we will host a "Meet and Greet" with the candidates directly after the meeting for all of those who are able to participate and who's schedule can allow staying for an extended time. Obviously, no candidate or participant is obligated to stay after the meeting. We just thought there was so much interest in our group from the candidates and so much interest from our members in knowing who is on the ballot that we'd offer an impromptu "Meet and Greet" after our scheduled speake rs.

So, please make sure you can come out and get to know who is running for office and decide who you'd like to represent you, in the county and in the state of Maryland.

The Fifties

It's a little long, but unfortunately I remember most of this stuff:

Click here: Growing Up In The Fifties

WAYNE ALLYN ROOT: Overwhelm The System

Barach Obama is no fool. He is not incompetent. To the contrary, he is brilliant. He knows exactly what he's doing. He is purposely overwhelming the U.S. economy to create systemic failure, economic crisis and social chaos -- thereby destroying capitalism and our country from within.

Barack Obama is my college classmate ( Columbia University , class of '83). As Glenn Beck correctly predicted from day one, Obama is following the plan of Cloward & Piven, two professors at Columbia University . They outlined a plan to socialize America by overwhelming the system with government spending and entitlement demands. Add up the clues below. Taken individually they're alarming. Taken as a whole, it is a brilliant, Machiavellian game plan to turn the United States into a socialist/Marxist state with a permanent majority that desperately needs government for survival ... and can be counted on to always vote for bigger government. Why not? They have no responsibility to pay for it.

-- Universal health care. The health care bill had very little to do with health care. It had everything to do with unionizing millions of hospital and health care workers, as well as adding 15,000 to 20,000 new IRS agents (who will join government employee unions). Obama doesn't care that giving free health care to 30 million Americans will add trillions to the national debt. What he does care about is that it cements the dependence of those 30 million voters to Democrats and big government. Who but a socialist revolutionary would pass this reckless spending bill in the middle of a depression?

-- Cap and trade. Like health care legislation having nothing to do with health care, cap and trade has nothing to do with global warming. It has everything to do with redistribution of income, government control of the economy and a criminal payoff to Obama's biggest contributors. Those powerful and wealthy unions and contributors (like GE, which owns NBC, MSNBC and CNBC) can then be counted on to support everything Obama wants. They will kick-back hundreds of millions of dollars in contributions to Obama and the Democratic Party to keep them in power. The bonus is that all the new taxes on Americans with bigger cars, bigger homes and businesses helps Obama "spread the wealth around."

-- Make Puerto Rico a state. Why? Who's asking for a 51st state? Who's asking for millions of new welfare recipients and government entitlement addicts in the middle of a depression? Certainly not American taxpayers. But this has been Obama's plan all along. His goal is to add two new Democrat senators, five Democrat congressman and a million loyal Democratic voters who are dependent on big government.

-- Legalize 12 million illegal immigrants. Just giving these 12 million potential new citizens free health care alone could overwhelm the system and bankrupt America . But it adds 12 million reliable new Democrat voters who can be counted on to support big government. Add another few trillion dollars in welfare, aid to dependent children, food stamps, free medical, education, tax credits for the poor, and eventually Social Security.

-- Stimulus and bailouts. Where did all that money go? It went to Democrat contributors, organizations (ACORN), and unions -- including billions of dollars to save or create jobs of government employees across the country. It went to save GM and Chrysler so that their employees could keep paying union dues. It went to AIG so that Goldman Sachs could be bailed out (after giving Obama almost $1 million in contributions). A staggering $125 billion went to teachers (thereby protecting their union dues). All those public employees will vote loyally Democrat to protect their bloated salaries and pensions that are bankrupting America . The country goes broke, future generations face a bleak future, but Obama, the Democrat Party, government, and the unions grow more powerful. The ends justify the means.

-- Raise taxes on small business owners, high-income earners, and job creators. Put the entire burden on only the top 20 percent of taxpayers, redistribute the income, punish success, and reward those who did nothing to deserve it (except vote for Obama). Reagan wanted to dramatically cut taxes in order to starve the government. Obama wants to dramatically raise taxes to starve his political opposition.

With the acts outlined above, Obama and his regime have created a vast and rapidly expanding constituency of voters dependent on big government; a vast privileged class of public employees who work for big government; and a government dedicated to destroying capitalism and installing themselves as socialist rulers by overwhelming the system.

Add it up and you've got the perfect Marxist scheme -- all devised by my Columbia University college classmate Barack Obama using the Cloward and Piven Plan.

Delaware Electric Cooperative "Peak Alert"

Beat the Peak June 23rd and June 24th between 3 p.m. and 7 p.m.

GREENWOOD-Because of the warm temperatures over our region, Delaware Electric Cooperative and Choptank Electric Cooperative are asking all of their members to voluntarily conserve or limit energy usage between the hours of 3 pm and 7 pm, Tomorrow, June 23rd and Thursday, June 24th, when our membership will be using the greatest amount of electricity and as a result the cooperatives will be purchasing power from the market at extremely high prices.

During "normal" load periods we pay only pennies per kilowatt-hour for power. However, during "Peak" demand or energy periods when the temperatures rise, we can pay up to one dollar per kilowatt-hour and in turn, we must pass these higher costs on to our members which may have an impact on rates.

Between the hours of 3 pm and 7 pm Tomorrow, June 23rd and Thursday, June 24th we are asking our members to turn off all unnecessary lights and appliances that may not be needed. We would ask that our members delay major appliance usage such as dishwashers, washing machines and clothes dryers and delay any hot water usage.

Other important steps to take might include closing window shades and adjusting thermostats up 3 degrees during these "Peak" times.

THE DIFFERENCE IF YOU MARRY AN EASTERN SHORE GIRL

Three friends married women from different parts of the country.

The first man married a woman from Wisconsin. He told her that she was to do the dishes and house cleaning. It took a couple of days, but on the third day, he came home to see a clean house and dishes washed and put away.

The second man married a woman from Minnesota. He gave his wife orders that she was to do all the cleaning, dishes and the cooking. The first day he didn't see any results, but the next day he saw it was better. By the third day, he saw his house was clean, the dishes were done, and there was a huge dinner on the table.

The third man married a girl from the Eastern Shore. He ordered her to keep the house cleaned, dishes washed, lawn mowed, laundry washed, and hot meals on the table for every meal. He said the first day he didn't see anything, the second day he didn't see anything but by the third day, some of the swelling had gone down and he could see a little out of his left eye, and his arm was healed enough that he could fix himself a sandwich and load the dishwasher. He still has some difficulty when he pees.

VEHICLE IDENTIFIED ALONG WITH TWO SUSPECTS IN CARROLL COUNTY HIT AND RUN FATAL

(Westminster, MD) – State Police investigators from the Westminster Barracks and the Maryland State Police Crash Team have located the vehicle and two possible suspects involved in a hit and run fatal which occurred early Sunday morning in the 2000-block of Littlestown Pike.

Investigators received an anonymous tip which led them to an address in Keymar, Maryland where the suspected vehicle was being stored. Upon arrival, state police investigators located a forest green 1998 Saturn. The vehicle was towed to the Westminster Barracks for processing by the Maryland State Police Crash Team and by crime scene technicians from the Forensic Sciences Division.

State police located the owner of the vehicle and an additional person at undisclosed locations. They were taken to the Westminster Barracks for questioning and later released without being charged. The completed investigation will be presented to the Carroll County State’s Attorney’s Office for further review.

The deceased is identified as James O. Robinette Jr., 40, of the 2000-block of Littlestown Pike, Westminster, Maryland. He was pronounced dead at the scene, which is near the home where he lived with a relative.

The preliminary investigation indicates the crash occurred on Sunday, June 20, 2010 at approximately 3:30 a.m. State Police began the investigation after receiving a phone call from a jogger just before 3:00 p.m. on Monday, June 21, 2010. He discovered damaged car parts along Rt. 97 and then the victim’s body on the other side of the guardrail.

Anyone with further information about the suspect vehicle and/or driver is urged to contact Maryland State Police at the Westminster Barracks at 410-386-3000, ext. 0. Calls may be kept confidential.

Pollitt Fundraiser Indicates True Stripes

Wicomico County Executive Rick Pollitt wants your money – and not just your tax dollars. Rick wants you to dig deep in order that we may enjoy another four years of whining about the revenue cap and a steady whittling away of county services in the hope that taxpayers will finally capitulate and agree to the tax increases that Pollitt desperately wants to levy on us and on our neighbors.

On July 10th we are all invited to a fundraiser at the home of Wicomico’s most notorious lefty – Mike Pretl:

Even more telling than the hosts – Pretl and his Mrs. – is the litany of co-hosts:

Phil Tilghman – unwittingly responsible for the revenue cap by leading the largest property tax increase in the history of Wicomico County.

Mike Dunn – veteran of shady land deals and the $80 million debacle known as the waste water treatment plant. All accomplished in a single term on the Salisbury City Council.

John Groutt – part of Wicomico’s more radical tree-hugging element, who along with Pretl, helped Pollitt in his unsuccessful attempt to strip Wicomico farmers of their property rights without compensation.

Delegates Norm Conway and Jim Mathias – we can thank them for supporting some of the largest tax increases and most profligate spending in Maryland’s history.

REMEMBER – when Rick asks for your vote this year look at his record AND the record of some of his supporters. Pollitt’s record has proven that he is not the moderate / conservative he claims to be. The revenue cap and the state’s requirement that we have a balanced budget are the only two things keeping your taxes in check and your county government (at least nominally) in the black!

Amid Crises, Obama Declares War -- On Arizona

The Obama administration has a lot of fights on its hands. Putting aside real wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, there's the battle against leaking oil in the Gulf, the struggle against 9.7 percent unemployment across the country, and clashes over the president's agenda on Capitol Hill. Despite all that, the White House has found time to issue a new declaration of war, this time against an unlikely enemy: the state of Arizona.

The Justice Department is preparing to sue Arizona over its new immigration law. The president has stiffed Gov. Jan Brewer's call for meaningful assistance in efforts to secure the border. And the White House has accused Arizona's junior senator, Republican Jon Kyl, of lying about an Oval Office discussion with the president over comprehensive immigration reform. Put them all together, and you have an ugly state of affairs that's getting uglier by the day.

First, the lawsuit. Last week, Brewer was appalled to learn the Justice Department's intentions not from the Justice Department but from an interview done by Secretary of State Hillary Clinton with an Ecuadorian TV outlet. "It would seem to me that if they were going to file suit against us," Brewer told Fox News' Greta van Susteren last week, "they definitely would have contacted us first and informed us before they informed citizens ... of another nation."

But they didn't.

"There certainly seems to be an underlying disrespect for the state of Arizona," says Kris Kobach, the law professor and former Bush administration Justice Department official who helped draft the Arizona law. Kobach points out that during the Bush years, several states openly flouted federal immigration law on issues like sanctuary cities and in-state tuition for illegal immigrants. Respecting the doctrines of comity and federalism, the Bush administration didn't sue. Now, when Arizona passes a measure that is fully consistent with federal law, the Obama administration, says Kobach, "goes sprinting to the courthouse door."

Then there is the matter of the White House's assistance, or nonassistance, in Arizona's border-security efforts. On June 3, the president, under criticism for refusing to meet or even talk to Brewer, reluctantly granted her an audience in the Oval Office. After the meeting, Brewer told reporters Obama pledged that administration officials would come to Arizona within two weeks with details of plans to secure the border.

June 17 marked two weeks, and there were no administration officials and no plans. There still aren't. "What a disappointment," Brewer told van Susteren. "You know, when you hear from the president of the United States and he gives you a commitment, you would think that they would stand up and stand by their word. It is totally disappointing."

And now, there's the Kyl controversy. On June 18, Kyl told a town meeting in North Phoenix that Obama personally told him the administration will not secure the U.S.-Mexico border because doing so would make it politically difficult to pass comprehensive immigration reform.

Uncle Steny: Tax Hike Needed On Middle Class To Keep Up With Spending

House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer said Tuesday that tax increases will eventually be necessary to address the nation's mounting debt, raising a difficult election-year issue as Democrats fight retain control of Congress.

In the shorter term, Hoyer raised the possibility that Congress will only temporarily extend middle-class tax cuts set to expire at the end of the year. He pointedly suggested that making them permanent would be too costly.

Tax cuts enacted under former President George W. Bush are scheduled to expire at the end of the year, affecting taxpayers at every income level. President Barack Obama proposes to permanently extend them for individuals making less than $200,000 a year and families making less than $250,000—at a cost of about $2.5 trillion over the next decade.

"As the House and Senate debate what to do with the expiring Bush tax cuts in the coming weeks, we need to have a serious discussion about their implications for our fiscal outlook, including whether we can afford to permanently extend them before we have a real plan for long-term deficit reduction," said Hoyer, a Maryland Democrat.

In the short term, government spending has been necessary to stimulate the economy, Hoyer said. But in the longer term, Congress will have to rein in spending and raise taxes to tackle the debt, he added.

"Raising revenue is part of the deficit solution, too," Hoyer said.

Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell said, "It's now official. Top Democrats on Capitol Hill are starting to signal their intention to raise taxes on the middle class."
